The Board of Directors, all twelve, was seated at the long glass table in the front of the room. It was the year 2150, and the Board had an announcement for all its employees. Foreign news reporters filled the room..The room was glass and steel, part of the new contemporary movement that started nearly a century ago.
Director John Moore immediately called the room to attention. "Excuse me, ladies and gentleman." The room suddenly quieted, except for the cameras clicking and whirring.
"Good morning, on this fine Christmas Eve. As you know, Netcon employs about five million people worldwide. This is of course our headquarters, located in London. However, I must announce that we will be moving headquarters soon. Today, with the compliance of Board Legislation FF-221F, I am announcing that The Netcon Corporation will move to an island located in the mid-Atlantic. I will centralize all corporation activities to this new island, to be named Netcon City. For it will operate like a city. Though we currently produce only communication products and satellites, I, along with the Board of Directors, have decided to create several different companies under Netcon. More information on those companies will provided in the coming weeks.
"This move is to ensure order in our ever-growing corporation. We have the size of a very small country now, and will be treated as such. I will create an army to defend our interests. They will be equipped with the latest technology, and within 100 years, I intend for Netcon to have created a large space fleet.
"Perhaps I will never see the Golden Age of Netcon, but I intend to start the path that shall lead to it. We will live for many years, I hope. And we will serve the world, one employee at a time."
Cheers and applause rang throughout the room, and the millions of employees scattered around the world were overjoyed. Netcon would become a corporation to respect and honor. It was amazing that the founding of a new nation could come from such humble beginnings as a electronic store in downtown London...
