Emperor Gorrm has assembled a cabinet meeting of utmost priority to his internal officials. He and Advisor Bosska, as well as Advisor Sszeera, have been poring over logistics readings, infrastructure reports and a great many other things concerning the Empire.

"........And our figures show that, at the rate we are growing, we will soon become severely overpopulated."

Emperor: "Give me options."

Sszeera: "From what the Chief Engineer has told me, the options are as follows; the living ships can begin exploration out of this system using the Wormhole Gate (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2428223&highlight=#2428223), which has just finished construction. Or we can go to war, remove a populace from their lands and settle in there. Or we can begin controlled hatching programs."

Emperor: "Hrrrmmmmm...the last option is out of the question. The second option is not one I wish to pursue, but it will be an option nonetheless. We will go with the first option."

Bosska: "this will, of course, take a considerable amount of funding. I stress that I am understating the amount. Many assets will have to be liquidated in order for the third option to work. The Imperial Treasury will be severely depleted. Not to mention that the wildlife here will go feral at our removal, and probably cause an international scene."

Emperor: "Then make an announcement to our peoples. I propose the following....."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"People of the Empire of Sakkra, heed this message from your Emperor, for it concerns you all. We have estimated that in 20 years, this planet will be entirely too cramped to support our ever-growing numbers."

"Our Emperor, in his wisdom, has suggested that we begin exploration and colonization of a new planet. When one is found worthy of us, with great humidity, swamp-like atmosphere, and great warmth, any who wish will be permitted to travel. Others may, if they desire, remain here on Earth to keep a Sakkran presence."

"The acceptance of applications will begin immediately. so that preparations may be made in an efficient manner. Ponder this carefully, for it is not a decision made lightly."

And so a great exodus begins. There are a good number of Sakkrans who choose to remain on earth. The rest, however, agree that their living needs are becoming quite cramped, and begin poring their efforts into getting the colonization underway. Some are too old to go themselves, but still press on for the sake of their hatchlings, and their grand-hatchlings.

Alpha and Beta, two of the Pakayg crafts, have docked with the Orbital Docks in Titan Space. Gamma, however, has decided to dock at the Orbital Shipyard in high Earth orbit. Whole asteroids are towed via Terrapin-class tug ship to both locations.

While this occurs, probe robots and sensor modules are being transported up to the Orbital Shipyard for installation on Gamma. Long-range fighters are also being fastened to the hull of Gamma, as she extrudes an umbilicus to their cockpits, and forms a translucent, gooey gel around the ships themselves.

It would be a great honor to have you accompany our explorers on this mission of exploration and colonization. We will have a stasis pod installed, as our Torpor Pods are not meant for warm-bloods, and would have a poor effect on you. A shuttle is ready to bring you to the Orbital Shipyard, where the Gamma specimen is undergoing last-minute inspections and loading of essentials.

"......you know what this means, right? We may never see the Black Swamp again."

Bio-Engineer Ssthouu scratches his scaly head, and looks at his hands. He then continues with his scans of Gamma. He's just coming into adult-hood, and the thought of leaving home has him a bit concerned.

"Yes, but think of what we might find! The Void is vast, and the chance to go where none of our sires have ever been is .... a heady feeling. Besides, who says we can never return?"

Technician Lhaar continues calibrating the scanning arrays for greater efficiency as she speaks. Her giddyness is obvious to even the most casual observer.

"Maybe ......maybe. But I have a strange feeling......" He shakes his head and continues his work. Lhaar's eye is on him now.

"Feeling? Explain."

"......dread. Like a massive mistake is in the making."

The Pakayg extend several tendrils to each other. This is their way of communicating privately via chemical-axon code.

We have been analyzing the energy wavelengths of this wormhole, and its stability. Sending wavelength information over. Stability seems good; about 97.3%.

Very good. I'll take a look at these specs. How are your charges Beta?

They're alive, if that's what you mean. It feels wierd having all these beings in me, poking and prodding. At least they got someone intelligent to by my liaison. Some of these beings; it amazes me they can remember to consume their oxygen/nitrogen mix.

Just be patient. Remember, they don't have the benefits of true genetic memory as we do. they learn slowly, but they learn. Ah! I have a match on wavelengths. Adjusting energy fields to match. This'll make for a smooth transit.

Signal the Gate Control to transmit our arrival to the station on the other side. It would be bad to pop up unannounced.

The Pakayg ships were ready to begin. They shifted the energy resonance fields around the skin of their living hulls to match that of the Wormhole Gate's.

Slowly Alpha approached first. This one was considered the explorer of the group. Not exactly a vocal individual, it was none-the-less normally in favor of taking chances where others may blanche.

He reaches the threshold of the Gate, and then vanishes. the others follow suit.

The feeling the Pakayg experience, and the crew in the neuro-shunt pods as well, is one of a great vertigo. Like a massive ten-story tall roller-coaster had just dropped. Except it lasts for a full 15 minutes.

They exit out the other side of the gate, a whole new system surrounds them. What could be here?

Ooooogggg. Alpha, can we do a search of the area for any residents here? And stop spinning, please."

" It is ... not I who is spinning. It seems that the neuro-pods allow you to experience .... what I experience. I feel very disoriented."

“ System sweep is now complete. Here's what we've found.

The star is a class IV blue sub-giant with 8 planets in stable orbits. There is a single asteroid belt. It’s the first ‘object’ from the sun, at a distance of 4 to 6 million kilometers. Spectrographs indicate sodium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, tungsten, and boron compose most of the major asteroids

The first planet is a cobalt blue gas giant with a thin ring at a distance of 11 million kilometers. Has a radius of 26,000 kilometers. It has one observed satellite, an asymetrical moon. Primary components are hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen.

Second planet has a high oxygen content in the hydrosphere, as well as high amounts of flourine. Primary atmosphere is hydrogen, nitrogen, and neon. Presence of large amounts of silver, nickel, and potassium. Orbital radius is 34 million kilometers, and planetary radius is 500 kilometers. Gravity is .1 Earth normal. 3 moons are present. Possibly populated.

Third planet has a toxic atmosphere - chlorine, fluorine, and helium with nitrogen, iodine, and bromine in suspension. Beryllium, iridium, and cobalt make up the core. It’s at 65 million kilometers, and has a radius of 25,000 kilometers.

Fourth planet has an atmosphere that is primarily oxygen, neon, and hydrogen. What little hydrosphere there is has a high chlorine count, as well as hydrogen and carbon. Possibly populated.

The surface looks to contain carbon, gold, and titanium. Orbital distance is 395 million kilometers. Radius is nearly perfect at 7,400 kilometers. 9 moons are present.

The fourth world is diminutive in size. – 2,600 kilometer radius with a 686 million kilometer orbital radius. Atmosphere is hydrogen. There is a lot of sulfur and mercury in suspension, and the core is iridium and calcium. 7 moons are present.

The fifth planet is a black gas giant. Carbon, bromine, and hydrogen. Likely rocky core. It is 1200 million kilometers from the star, and 22,000 km in radius. 1 moon is present. Possibly populated.

The sixth planet has an orbit of 4700 million kilometers. 12,000 kilometer radius. Atmosphere is co2, helium, and oxygen. Hydrosphere contains hydrogen, nitrogen, and more co2. The core is aluminum and magnesium. High gravity at twice Earth normal. 11 moons are present. Possibly populated.

The last planet is a gas sub-giant. Another 100 million kilometers out. 30,000 kilometer radius. Hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, nitrogen, and iodine make it an inhospitable place. 7 moons are present.

Coming upon PES-010. Find it is also known as Procyon A system. Preliminary scans show habitable areas in system. Star mass is 1.5. Yellow bright star throwing off increased UV as compared to the Sol star. Secondary red dwarf star orbits; Procyon B is designate. Low levels of heat, light and UV radiation are emitted. Orbits Procyon A every 41 years, but we think it may be of some consequence, although we are certain it can be circumvented. Approaching; ETA 2 years.

The three Pakayg exploration and science vessels were approaching Procyon A in sub-space. It was a slow method of travel in terms of the warp-drive, hyper-space, space-fold and numerous other techs and drives that circumvent the light-speed barrier, but it was reliable and had a low energy requirement.

Alpha took lead in these jumps, since he knew best about E-resonance field frequencies and techniques, and made the voyage easier for the other Pakayg who followed in his sub-space wake.

" Approaching Procyon A system. Winding down .... sub-space drives. Preparing to transfer ... engine functions to sub-luminal ... travel."

The three crafts re-entered real-space with a small flash of energy discharges, to shed the excess energy required for sub-space operation before they cause internal interference. "Okay Alpha, Gamma. I need immediate readings on the system before we enter the helio-sphere. Begin decelleration and scan. I'll route the findings to the Triumvirate."

" Acknowledged. Beta, could you check for signs of habitation? We wouldn't want to 'step on any toes' out here."

"Step on any toes indeed. Your use of hominid terminology is ceasing to be humorous. But fine, i'll look for any civilizations here."

The three crafts unfurled their petal-sails, and began scanning the approaching Procyon A system. The sails served a number of useful purposes; the collection of solar energy that is stored in reserve banks, the use of solar winds to propel them slowly, but with almost nil energy expenditure. and the space covered allowed them to 'smell the Winds' for EM activity, solar radiation and any number of other scents and trails from ships, comets and other stellar bodies.

Gamma completed her first scans, and logged them with her Liaison. " Cursory system scans are complete.

Type of Star: White-Yellow Dwarf
Spectral Class: F5V
Distance: 8,6 Lightyears from Sol
Luminosity: 7,7 L
Mass: 1,5 Solar Masses
Surface Temperature: 7.300 K
Main Sequence Lifetime: 6 Billion Years
Habitable Zone: 1,2 - 2,5 AU
Zone of Stable Planetary Orbits: Max. 3 AU
Known Companions: White Dwarf Procyon B (Least Distance 14 AU, 1 Orbit in 41 Years)

"Excellent. Logging cursory findings and transmitting to Trium space."

A day and some-odd passes as the three crafts conduct their scans. Beta completes his scans and reports back. "We've got positive contacts in system. Reading transmissions and emission trails into and out of the system. Three planets developed and showing signs of civilizations. One planet in the process of being terraformed."

Damn it! This is getting tedious! After a few years out, the liaison was beginning to get a bit anxious. "Ok then, we move on. Do not initiate contact. Gamma, are there any neighboring systems around?"

" Reading low levels of UV energy core-ward, about 1.5 LY away. Medium-sized yellow-orange star. Shall we give it a 'look-see'?"

"Well, I doubt there are any better ideas right now. All crafts, spin up your sub-space engines and prepare to travel to system PES-011; temporary designate."

A few minutes later, the three ships seem to let off flashes of energy, and then enter sub-space with a brilliant flash, on their way to their next system.

Flashes of light form outside the heliopause of the PES-011 system, and immediately the three ships begin taking readings. Beta pipes in with his initial findings first.

"It looks alright so far. Not reading any emission trails, no signs of communications signals. WIll conduct deeper scans."

"Gamma, what do we see in this system?"

"We have several orbiting bodies, one with an eccentric orbit. 3 asteroid belts, one ionized comet trail, fairly stable star, a definite habitable zone. Here's the official info...

Type of Star: Yellow-Red Sub-Giant
Spectral Class: G
Distance: 9.3 Lightyears from Sol
Luminosity: 6.7 L

Gamma reports in with her findings.

"Cursory scans of in-system bodies complete. There are 2 habitable planets; one a dense forest planet, the other an oceanic planet. 2 gas giants, 1 arctic planet, 1 desert and one inferno planet. Moderate amount of volcanic activity on the forest planet; ocean planet has some high winds, up to 250 kph. Gravity is .75 Earths, while on the Ocean planet it is 1.1 gravities. I'd recommend 'setting up shop' here."

"Ocean planet has breathable atmosphere with an ozone layer. 85% compatibility to us. Forest planet shows same. Slightly higher Oxy to Nitro levels. 72% compatibility, but some terraforming will be easier there."

"Confirmed. Communicate with Sakkra Titan colony and the Trium our findings. Recommend prompt colonization action be taken. In the meantime, let's start setting up an outpost here on the forest planet. Give us a chance to explore around a bit."

The Reptavian dropship leaves Alpha's bay, and begins its approach for atmospheric insertion into the forest planet, PES 5. Most of the crew are biologists, anthropologists and scientists. There are 3 Minion Suit operators for defense purposes.

Gamma has sent the findings of this system to Trium Comm Facilities.

At the gates, a trio of burly guards, heavily armed and armored, stands sentry. Whiptail is asked for his name as he approaches, and asked to remove his hood for identification purposes.

Should this be done, he is then escorted into the gates, where a long, 25 meter wide tunnel stretches forward for what might seem forever, to open into a clearing set in the interior of a dead volcano.

If there are religions that view technology as the work of evil, this would appear to be the deepest pit of hell. Bipedal load-bearing suits carry materials to a lrage domed structure that raises up about 100 meters high. A long tubular shape extends from the top of the structure, and stretches out past the volcano wall. Power-armor clad soldiers make their rounds, hovering vehicles convey passengers to their destinations, and large shuttles are docked getting outfitted, repaired and loaded.

A passenger list on a large holographic screen is near the shuttles, showing 19 other passengers on Whiptails flight, which is to begin boarding in 1 hour.

In the meantime...
The Reptavian drop-ship has completed orbital insertion, and is conducting surface scans for the purpose of the attached MCU making a topographic map of the planet surface. At 1500 kph, they'll be able to cover a fair area of terrain in a full standard day.

"PES Gamma, this is Silky. We've completed a topographic survey. Showing land mass consisting mostly of marsh, swamp, rain-forest and savannah. Dense fog in most areas, patchy cloud cover. Will upload map after touch-down."

The reptavian dropship circles around a praticularly light stretch of swamp, looking for a place to land. "Man, Ggraal. This is some nice area! Ground could stand to be more solid."

"I know it Rheellas. Hold on, getting a reading here. Slate tables just below ground level about 400 kliks magnetic east. Adjusting course."

As the dropship changes course, the swampy area clears a bit, revealing a slate shelf that is right near a steep precipice. About 200 meters steep, in fact. Water cascades of the slate table into a misty lake below.

"If there's a better place to land around here, i've yet to see it. Rotating turbo-thrust jets to VTOL position. Brace for landing."

The ship extends its landing pads, slows and descends, landing with slight jarring. the rear cargo doors of the MCU attached to the ship opens after a short time, and the three Minion suits stomp out with a loud *THNK whrrrr *THNK whrrrr. They then take up overwatch positions 100 meters from the ship in three directions.

The crew aboard the MCU files out and begins setting up a command station, with comm array, shelter and supplies.

"MCU-1 to PES 3. Testing, testing. Doo be doo be dooooooo!" A brief second passes, and then a staticy message is heard. "This is Liaison Hhrreen aboard PES 3. We hear you, but there seems to be a bit of interference, most likely from planet surface. Increased levels of UV radiation and magnetic disruption."

"Copy that. Signal strength incoming looks good. Mild interference, but nothing terrible. Testing in-planet comms. Patrol 1, come in please."

One of the Minion suits has gone several kilometers out. "This is patrol 1. Signal sounds good chief."

"Copy that. Return to base, we're gonna start a little building of shelters."

"Copy that. Heading back."

"PES group, reccomend making orbital maneuvers. The Silky will make orbital insertion and dock for supplies for construction purposes."

"We hear you, MCU-1. We're approaching planet to make orbit; Reptavians are being loaded now with construction machinery and materials. Will begin surveying the three moons for development once landings are complete."

Damn, that is eerie. Whenever the ships 'speak', it reminds me of a psychoanalyst session. "Copy that PES group. Out." The comms officer switches off his head-set and swivels around to look at the neat array of Resin structural beams, sheeting and the like. He then steps to the cargo door of the MCU and yells out.

"Cholly, get some of those xeno-architectural engineers out to survey the area."

A Sakkran in a Constructor Suit waves from his cockpit. "Already done, Jhaak. They have some odd ideas, but none i'm against. You know that they think they can build cities in the trees?"

"Tree city?" Jhaak the comm officer thinks about that for a moment, and looks at the trees. They grow about 150 meters high at best, and have trunks that are about 35 meters in diameter. "It's possible I guess. Let's see what else they come up with."

OOC: I think this is as good a time as any to open this up for RP with friendly nations.

A few weeks pass, and ship after ship has made supply runs from the PES crafts to the surface. The xeno-architectural engineers decide that tree construction is the most efficient way to go. It would provide protection from floods and some of the local predatorial life, which has begun inspecting the new arrivals to their planet from a short distance.

One particularly nasty bipedal creature, bearing three eyes and a jaw lined with large teeth, as well as standing 3.5 meters high by 8 meters long, came a bit too close for the comfort of the Minion troopers. A few blasts from the Hard beam cannons into the air made it keep its distance, but some who are not as well equipped might find themselves on the unfortunate end of that maw.

Constructor suits haul the materials from the LZ to their respective sites, where they are hoisted up and secured. Some civilian-grade organic plating is used to secure the structural supports to the trees. Small bridges are made with Resin and steel cabling, joining form support pillar to support pillar. Elevators are made to go from ground level to the third tier, which is halfway up the height of the trees.

Some Resin Beetles brought along are released after xeno-geologists conduct tests and determine the impact on the environment their presence might create. Being silico-vores, it's decided the impact should be minimal. They fly 1 meter above the worker's heads, creating light for their night-time work in exchange for tasty igneous chunks.

After fully unloading the beings on board, the Pakayg ships move on in-system to investigate the moons in orbit around Sslaa 5.

The first moon is named Uztuua.
Equatorial radius: 1162.5 km
Full orbit every 30 hours.
Heavy silicate concentrations
Sub-surface moisture pockets
Nickel, Tin and Copper concentrations

The second moon is Ssaak
Equatorial radius: 1377.5
Full orbit every 35 hours
Light silicate concentrations
Ferrous metal pockets
Tin, Cadmium and lithium concentrations

The third moon is Vubz
Equatorial radius: 2577.5
Full orbit every 38.65 hours
Moderate silicate concentration
Hollow, cavernous interior
Uranium, iron and phosphorous concentrations

It has been recommended that these three moons be developed for use as orbital facilities. Defense and communication, ship-building and way-station, and mining and refinement will be their purposes.

The first of the Exodus ships, a Sakkran heavy transport capable of transporting 3600 tons of materials and 1000 passengers, has just left the Orbital Shipyard for the Venus Gate.

The three Pakayg Exploratory Ships make their way to the edge of the system, and enter into orbit at the 8th planet there. Dubbed Sslaa 8, it is an arctic planet with a single moon, dubbed Kweep.

SSLAA 8
Equatorial radius 7383.3 km
Night/Day cycle: 42 hrs.
Mass: 6.281 [10^24 kg]
Density: 3724.85 [Kg/m^3]
Gravity: 3.1 [m/s^2Temp: Max 10C; Min -94.4C; Average -20C

Has an atmosphere consisting 98.2% nitrogen. Radioactive metals have been detected, as well as contaminants in the air. Radioactives may be due to the evidence of meteor impactions on the planet. No ozone layer is evident.

Moon survey:
Equatorial radius 635 km
Night/Day cycle: 32.7 hrs
Mass: .659 [10^24 kg]
Density: 614081.5 [Kg/m^3]
Gravity: 108.99 [m/s^2]
Temp: Max 60.3C; Min --72.5C; Average -6.1C

Kweep seems to be heavy in osmium, accounting for its high density. Some water vapor is present, but in very sparse amounts. Recommend staying a distance since heavy gravity pool tends to draw in matter, such as ships.

First heavy transport has unloaded via Reptavian dropships all passengers and cargo. 1 full Sol week was needed to execute this in full. Currently the transport is heading out-system to spin up sub-space drives and return to Sol. Other transports are being prepped, boarded and loaded.

Continuing system survey, Sslaa 7 will be reported on now.

An excessively frigid barren planet, Sslaa 7 seems to be prone to heavy periods of prolonged tectonic activity and meteor impactions on the surface. There are no moons present around this planet, and the temperature, combined with earthquakes and meteor storms, would make us believe that attempting to develop this planet would cost far more than it would be worth.

Equatorial radius: 5258.33 kms
Day/Night cycle: 13 hrs
Mass: 6.689 [10^24 kg]
Density: 10981.1 [Kg/m^3]
Gravity: 3 [m/s^2]
Temp: Max -41.8C; Min -140.4C; Average -80C

Detecting extremel high levels of planetary density. Possibly from osmium presence, but detecting an ore-heavy sub-strata. Some habitat modules may make this planet developable, but will be excessively costly.

PES crafts are now in synchronous orbit around the planet Sslaa 6. It is a gas giant without any orbiting bodies. There is a ring around it of frozen helium and hydrogen, however.

Equatorial radius: 161700 kms
Day/Night cycle: 20 hrs
Mass: 683.6 [10^24 kg]
Density: 3448.4 [Kg/m^3]
Gravity: 34.8 average [m/s^2]
Temp: Max -58.8C; Min -109.4C; Average -57.6C
Atmosphere: 71.3% hydrogen/tritium; 20.5% helium; 5% chlorine; 3.2% methane gases.

Detecting high levels of ambient radiation. Further analysis may show the cause of it, but wind patterns suggest a storm system, radioactive in nature, may be the cause. Recommend remote harvesting of gases.

Between Sslaa 6 and Sslaa 5 is the Kraah's Belt asteroid ring. It completely encircles the system, and passing examinations show a wide variety of asteroid types. Frozen ice blocks, radioactive elements, silicates, ferrous metals, as well as non-ferrous are in evidence. recommending survey, exploration and mining facilities be built here. perhaps it could be used in trade, granting mining rights to a foreign power here, in exchange for a percentage of yielded materials?

Continuing on to Sslaa 4, which appears to be an ocean planet.
