New Elven Senate chair brings diversity issues to light.

Most Xanthalians rarely see a full-blooded Elf in person; once making up over 15% of the national population they have shrunk to less than 1% over the last three centuries. Probability laughed in Xanthal's face today as it was announced that one of the few remaining elves in the country, Alassë Calanor, had been elected not only to the Xanthalian Senate but as the chairwoman thereof. "I hope that in my time on this Senate I will have the opportunity to save what little is left of my race in Xanthal. We have been dying out for centuries, slowly but surely. We must find a way to preserve some of the purebred of Xanthal, not just Elves but all minorities." she said in her opening address to the Xanthalian people.
Her statement refers to the ever decreasing number of non-Xanthalians in Xanthal as more and more members of the few remaining minority groups choose to breed with other minorities as well as with the Xanthalians themselves. This trend disturbs many people with fond childhood memories of a more diverse Xanthal. "Don't get me wrong, I have no objection to the letting different species interbreed, but I do hope some way can be found to preserve the minorities of Xanthal." said John Nicholas, another Senate member, in his address.
Wishing and getting may be two very different things in this case though, as debate rages over whether forcing specific species and races to breed with one another rather than with other groups, a blatant invasion of both civil liberties and personal privacy, could ever be worth the cost. Only time will tell, but with Alassë Calanor at the Senate's head it is an issue sure to find the limelight in the years to come.

(Seeing as noone else is....)

Falastur congratulates Xanthal on their appointing of a Chair to their Senate who seems devoted to getting the best for the peoples of her country, and not only the native residents.....

Senator Erti of the House of Odin congradulats Xanthal, as she herself is an Elf

Falastur: "They are all my countrymen, I cannot allow minorities to die out without a fight. I don't know how I'll do it yet, but I'll try."
-Alassë Calanor

Atlantian Outcasts: "One thing you learn in Xanthal is that every species of sentient has its merits. I was elected for no reason other than my intelligence and political adeptness. My being an Elf had nothing to do with it. Though I take pride in my heritage, I will not allow it to bias me in office."
-Alassë Calanor

"I know, it's just that some nations won't let Elves work in the government at all. I am just pleased that your government allows Elves to work"

Senator Orion's comment: "Although I am not an Elf, I respect diversity. Congradulations on your promotion, and goodluck in the future"

Atlantian Outcasts: "No crime is greater than barring a sentient being from doing something to benefit society. Nations that discriminate in elections are losing their opportunity for positive change by giving power to a supposed elite. Xanthalians may be the dominant species in Xanthal, but they have never allowed themselves to belittle or discriminate against others because of that. It is this kind of acceptance and diversity which makes our nation worthy of it's self-given title: The Great Society."
-Alassë Calanor

Falastur meant no offence when they spoke of their hopes for your time in power, Chairwoman Calanor. We merely meant that it is too much of a problem these days, how a national leader may ignore the plights of, or even cause the plight of, their minorities. Quite often, these countries follow cruel virtues, and I am not saying that before you took your role in your country that the Xanthal leadership was like this, but it does happen. It is just most gratifying to see another leader who will look after their minorities as you promise you will.

Edit: On second thoughts, I think I am replying to the remark you said to AO  How stupid of me.....

Falastur: "Thank you. It remains to be seen if there is anything we can do without violating the civil liberties of the minorities in the process of saving their genealogy. We shall see what options arise."
