Five Players From Foreign Decent Named to Team

(LIBERTAD, BRAZILLICO)As Bob Dylan once said, "The times are a-changin'". It was at one time a near impossibilty for a foreigner to net a spot on Brazillico's national team, with prolific power striker McGarnicle being the only one to accomplish the feat in Brazillico's five previous ventures to the World Cup. However, today, no less than five players from decents other than Brazillican were named to the team.

The players include McCafferty and Kilkenny, who can trace their ancestry back to the wave of Irish immigration following the potato blight of 1848. Westmore’s ‘SuperIans’ Ready for the World
SuperCup champions prepare to defend their country’s honor in World Cup XI

WESTERGATE, Iansisle -- David Westmore hardly looks like the wheelchair-bound shell of a man who shuffled off of Westergate Grounds’ football field just four years ago after Iansisle’s anti-climatic exit from World Cup X. Instead, he is back on his feet, wearing his old #59 jersey, and hopping about the field and shouting encouragment to what can now be considered his players. Indeed, the entire team, from its new name (SuperIans, in rememberence of recent victory) to its new kit and sense of confidence can hardly be identified as the same one which wandered into the Tenth World Cup.

The Ians were a team shattered by defeat and torn by strife when Westmore took them to the SuperCup in Tranquillitis, but he astounded the Iansislean footballing world by guiding them to a 3-1-0 record and wins over Timway and the Moose to capture the title.

The Eighth Earl of Dunerbridge, formerly the Viscount Riveran and Ians’ head coach, was forced to resign when his father, the Seventh Earl of Dunerbridge, died suddenly from complications related to pneumonia. Although many eagerly anticipated his return to the new SuperIans, he appeared in a press conference from his family’s manor house outside Dunerbridge, Weshield, to give Westmore the last bit of authority.

“This is David’s team now,” said Dunerbridge, “and there’s nothing I can do to take that away from him. He did a spectacular job in Tranquillitis, and I know he will continue to do so in the World Cup’s qualifications, hopefully all the way. I’ll certainly be following our progress, but only as a spectator.”

There are only a few new faces in Iansisle’s starting eleven, but striker Alexander Truman is certainly is the most prominant among them. The youngster, even now a tender twenty three years of age, proved his worth in replacing Leonard Flaherty during the SuperCup. He scored three goals in the games against Timway and Tranquillitis, including the extra time winner against the Moose in the final game.

Also new in the SuperIans’ starting eleven is defenseman Peter MacKinner, who will be replacing the retiring Steve Woolwood. Westmore is reportedly very keen on MacKinner, who he says “reminds me very much of Conrad Brandt during the Pan-Tilsitia Cup.” As the SuperIans’ strongest point has always been their defense, many hope that Westmore’s evaluation of the twenty one year old is correct.

While there have of yet not been any official retierment notices, midfielder Brian Park would be thirty nine at the time of World Cup XII. So far, the resolute Shadoranite has refused to divulge any information as to his intentions for the future.

One of our most dependable players in the squad. Has incredible reach, has the ability to cover any inch of the goal in one dive. Rarely lets in any goals. Suffers from the occasional lapse of concentration.

A solid right back who tackles with no fear. Has a danger of getting fouled.

3-Humm (Prehistoric F.C.)
A very solid centre back who will not let anybody past him without a good challenge. Another player who has a danger of getting fouled.

4-Quk (Rentruk Rovers)
A good clearer of the ball who makes runs up the field occasionally. His tackles are not as hard as Humm's or Aargh's, but he has the ability to clear the ball very quickly to the forwards.

A striker with good ball control and no fear of defenders. Has the ability to dribble the length of the field without losing the ball. Can also finish headers well. However, his shots occasionally lack accuracy and power.

A striker who has yet to prove himself. Has passion for the sport, but slightly lacking in ability. Has decent ball control, but his shots lack accuracy and power.

Widely seen as the successor to Oog. Is very alert and anticipates rather well. However, he is rather small and his reach is limited. Prone to committing the occassional slip-up.

21-Xcavabar (Atlantis F.C.) - Forward
Plying his trade in Europa Brittania, this forward is strong testament to the strength of Giant Zucchini. An all out charging type striker, has brilliant speed as well as a great position and finishing sense. However, may be slightly lacking in experience and fitness. His long range shots also lack power.

22-Zurk (Wonkerman Wanderers) - Defender
Lately deported back from TnUI, this defender combines defensive grit with attacking flair. A young talent who shows great promise.

23-Woog (Wonkerman Wanderers) - Midfielder
A young talent which caught the eye of Mr Hurr in his first season in the Premiership. Blistering pace and stamina, but lacks experience and composure, and skews most of his shots wide, or straight to the keeper.

Replacing Lou Oswald who had a short tenure in World Cup 10 is Butch Beige -- who bears striking resemblence to Bruce Corwin's World Cup 10 replacement. But no one knows if Lou Oswald and Butch Beige are one in the same, and no one cares to find out. It's too much damn work. Oglethorpia is ranked 8th in the world going into World Cup 11 -- providing the ranking system for the Cup remains the same through the upcoming international tournament.

The Snub Nose 38 International Football side, the Hooligans, first participated in international competition in World Cup 3. The Hooligans have participated in every World Cup tournament since then. The Hooligans were ranked 25th after WC3, and have since been ranked 39th after WC4, 20th after WC5, 6th after WC6, 10th after WC7, and 20th after WC8, 6th after WC9 and (to be published at a later date) after WC10.

The Minister regrets that participation in WC11 by the Hooligan Cheerleaders once again could not be prevented.

Mayantar is arguably the best football player from West Ariddia, and a good asset to the unified Ariddian team. With al-Jibai’s retirement, she has been entrusted with the position of first goalkeeper, a post she has proven she is quite able to handle. Having got married since WC10, she has affixed her husband’s name to her own.

Mayantar is in her mid thirties, fairly tall, and dark of skin. She keeps her hair cut shoulder-length.


Aurélien Clair

With Crewgar and Jones opting to remain with the FIFA regional team and having a record 7 players from the last squad also retiring, this is a relatively new-look Halfassed side. It looks Likely that Smith will start with his preferred 4-4-2 formation.

Wall is the only defensive player from the last cup who makes it to the starting 11, although keeper Jennung started a few games, and Ducks and Upton were also in the previous squad.

A slightly more familiar look in the midfield, where Soap and Lecter are once again present. Perfect and Totti step into the gap left by Bundy and Ward. Soap is Captain for the second cup.
