The Origin of all things...

Just a little idea I had...
In this thread post an account of the origin of your country (Or its prediscessor, if you wish), this can be a battle, an election, an invasion, or a coup.

DGNTs origins: (Set in ancient times)
The grass of the field swayed in the wind and a few birds flew over slowly. Closer inspection would reveal that the grass was slightly browned, and the birds a little emaciated, possibly a portent of things to come, but now it was as near to paradise as either kingdom knew.

Both armies were lined up on the vally ridges, it was a classic 'pit' battle, each sides main force on a hill above a vally which would become a slaughter house in a few short minutes.

An aid walked up to the general of the Gwainians.
"Lord, we have reports of the enemies numbers and the makeup of their force, it seems they are unware of our...suprise."
Lord Onne looked up from the battleplans before him, and then across the ridge to the army of the D'presians.
Grimacing he said "Damn, its bigger than I thought..." Taking out a small telescope he removed his hood and took a closer look.
Most of the D'presians army was a peasant rabble, apparently they thought that the Gwainians would take one look at their steel and run away screaming. Most of the army had taken one look at their steel and fallen over laughing, a good bit of it was rusty and undermaintained. Briefly Onne had considered that they might be defeated by sheer numbers, but thought better of it. A volly of arrows as well as an exhausting uphill charge would make it quite easy to finish off the enemy army.
"Well, let us go forth to meet my opposite number."

In the D'presian camp.
A rather similar aid tapped the Grand Lord of the Mighty D'pressian Army of the Gods on the shoulder.
"Sir, it seems the enemy has not fled on sight of our cold steel sir..."
"Really? Oh well, our grand army shall defeat them then."
"Well, a few of them have apparently fainted sir."
"Really? Almost as good as fleeing..."
"Umm, we belive they hyperventilated..."
"Right? Well, did not the Knights of Kish defeat the Terrible Flesh eating Barbarians of the North? When outnumbered 250 to one?"
"Yessir, but historians believe the earthquake helped..."
"And are not the Men of Glisselm remembered for their grand charge into the ranks of Pilatous on the fifth day of the battle of Pik?"
"Yessir..." The aid was unwilling to be deflected though "But they were slaughtered to the last man"
"Well, did not Lord Bearhugger singlehandedly defeat the Big Footed people of the northern moors?"
"But thats a nursery tale sir, I remember my nanny used to read it to me almost every ni-"
"Are you calling me a liar?"
"Nossir..."
"Well, then have the troops form up!"

At midday a glistining wall of spears was formed on both sides, and the D'presian armies advanced, bearing down on the silvered ranks of Gwainians.
At first the Gwainian force looked hopelessly outnumbered, but as the D'presians neared the floor of the vally great pits suddenly opened, and a whirring noise floated from the vally.
Men and horses screamed as they fell down to the waist, the ankle, or the knees, those that emerged were missing what they had but a few moments ago, and out of each pit lurched a huge crab made of shining metal.
The battle went on, with only five hundred out of a formed ten thosand D'pressian troops closing with the now insurmountable odds of the Gwainian forces.

So began the Machine Wars that decimated DGNT, earning it its name. Slowly great earth destroying terrors pulverized the ground until nothing but a few scrub plans could survive, and once the destructive properties of Uranium were discovered the sand turned to glass, the desert animals into monsters and the sky into a sort of purple haze.
At this time the massive sandstorms kicked up, eroding the rock formations until they were gone.

End, unless I think of something else.
