Questions

I have several questions:

What would a realistic budget, percentage wise be?
How can I calculate population increase? Does NationState automatically update it?
To make it realistic, do I have to buy military equipment/machines, etc. or can I just say what I start out with?

Here is my info:

The Democratic Republic of KatherineS is a tiny, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6 million are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The small government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Commerce receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 6%. A large private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Door-to-door Insurance Sales and Cheese Exports.

Voting is voluntary. Crime is a serious problem. KatherineS's national animal is the moose and its currency is the dollar.

KatherineS is ranked 8th in the region and 15,524th in the world for Greatest Rich-Poor Divides.

The game software will automatically update your population every day. When you're just starting, it goes up pretty slowly. Once you reach 20 million or so, it starts going up by about 5 million per day.

The best way to develop a realistic military is to determine your national budget. There are several calculators available in this forum that can do that for you, or you can use my patented overly-complicated version.

Once you have a budget, you need to determine how much of the budget is spent on the military. Break down what percentage is spent on weapons development, and this will tell you how much equipment you can afford. It won't be much while you're small.

There are several really good threads in the sticky titled, "New to NationStates? View these great threads." at the top of the first page in the NationStates forum. You may also wish to try checking into the RolePlay University that Wolfish is running.
