This thread is the forum for a series of wargames between myself and the Empire of Valinon. It should prove to be excellently amusing so anyone interested in staying up with it, or with an interest in Proxima Centauri military stuff should feel free to send military observers to either or both sides.
For this wargame Falasmayon will play the role of invader with the goal of subdueing at least a large portion of Alpha Centari System. Valinon will be the defender. Both sides will employ approximately equal forces.

OOC: Aarrgghh!! Special Liason Service!!! Aarghh!!!... oh well: let the games begin! Haha!
IC: It was morning by the chronometer on the Command deck of the Warstar Apollyon, flagship of the mock invasion force. Last night had been the banquet on Draco to celebrate these joint maneuvers, and to remind the officers and crews of both sides, that although they would be enemies for the next week or so, In the end they were fast allies. But that was past. And now the fleet waited a few minutedshyperspace jump away from the outer planet of Alpha Centauri, Prometheus.
Lord-Admiral Agmar Severus waited a few more minutes before beginning. Wouldn't do to arrive exactly on time now would it. He checked his watch again and nodded to his XO.
"All ships." the call rang out to the assembled mock invasion fleet, " Thw time has come, From this moment on we are in hostile realtions with any Valinon vessel you sight, unless they broadcast the appropriate neutrality or abort codes. We will jump in-system in 1 min. and good luck."
The chronometer spun down to zero and the entire fleet moved as one, as they passed into hyperspace. The ships arrived minutes later and took battle positions. The plans were enacted. The fleet moved in-system moving to pass Prometheus opposite to Draco. The fllet split into groups as planned.
Group 1 was the MTCB-2, the fleet support craft, the transports, and the Warstars.
Group 2 was the majority of the rest of the naval combat fleet.
Group 3 was the minelayers, 2 battlestars, 5 Gunstars, and 5 Assaultstars.
Groups 1 & 2 stayed on the far side of Prometheus and moved to escape its cosiderable gravity well. Group 3 moved towards its special mission. The ships travelled towards a point along the hyperspace lanes from Draco to the rest of the system. And apart from them all, the warpsubmarine moved towards Draco, to observe.
Five Civilized Nations
22-12-2003, 05:45
As the famed Chinese tactician of the Warring States Era, Sun Tzu, so famously said, "Know your enemy, know yourself, never no defeat," and what Zensunnis have been saying for generations, "Every man is a potential enemy, every place a potential battlefield," the Five Civilized Nations is dispatching scientific vessels escorted by a Trafalgar Class Carrier Battleship to analyze these wargames...
Rear Admiral Horatio stands at the center of the command deck deep in the bowels of Draco. He watches as the network of sensors across the outer system pick up the jump signatures of the Falasmayon "invasion" force, and as they begin to form up and move to carry out there missions. Based on there signatures, he can already tell what task forces constitue the main forces of the fleet under Admiral Severus.
He watches the tactical display with interests, and looks at the forces of the OSRPF scattered around Prometheus.
"Have the Foehammer, Centurion, Judicator, & Grendel move with their task forces to probe the main group of the Falasmayon force. Meanwhile, prepare the Concordia to make ready to leave Draco. Plot the course of the support vessels and those Warstars."
"Yes, Admiral."
Horatio watches the smallest group of Falasmayon vessels with interests, wary of this small blip on the Star Armada's sensor networks.
"What forces are near the position of the third Falasmayon group?"
"The Tiger Claw and her command, sir."
"Have Captain Prichard take his force toward this third group. They are to observe before engaging."
"Yes, Admiral," Horatio then turns, preparing to leave for the Concordia and ready his own main fleet to engage the enemy force.

OOC: Darn my time away from my computer! AArrggghhhhh! By the way the Warstar/ support group is staying in the same general area as the main fleet group.
"Lord-Admiral sir. Remote sensors are picking up ship movements. we have verification from Phantasm Two groups are moving. The larger is headed in our direction it appears to be about thiry ships pf various classes. The smaller group headed for the "suprise" unknown fleet composition."
"Hmm, interesting. Have Captian Dosh take the 1st fleet Division to meet the ships headed for us. The "suprise" will continue its mission. Main fleet maintain course, to in-system edge of Prometheian gravity well." ordered the Admiral.
The ships moved again.
******
The 1st Fleet division formed in a half sphere around the floating city facing the anticipated direction of the Valinon approach. Any defence weaponry mounted by the city was quicky neutralized by "bombardment". Fighter and bomber craft were deployed in the ship grouping.
"Excellent," mused Dosh from the bridge of the H. Battlestar Geminon, "We'll see if they want to fire on us when they risk blowing their own city out of the sky with us. Prepare for engagement."

The ships of the "suprise" continued on their mission, arriving at the imaginary lines of the hyperspace lanes. The 3 minelayers quickly began their work. They traveled down the imaginary strings in space as they ejected 3 ft diameter spheres that would simulate the effects of Empion and Standard Mines. 300 were layed, the work took about 20 minutes. As the minelayers worked the escorting Battlestars kept watch for any Valinon ships that might approach.

OOC: Falasmayon, the cities are a considerable way in toward Prometheus. If you decide to go after them, you will be off the beaten path of the battle. Beside I didn't build them, the Dominion of Outer Centauri did. And he could out militarize me, besides his back was against the wall when we fought for Prometheus, and let us just say that he got very good at defenses. There will be surprises for you if you decide to push against Yamahci-Osaga. I just used it as a reference point really, kind of like the constellations in the night sky.
Captain Prichard watches from the bridge of the Tiger Claw as his ships rapidly approach the Falasmayon group. He sees the minelayers, and watches them at work.
"Tactical, give me a projection of what an estimated fully deployed minefield would threaten if it stayed in the same orbital pattern."
After a few moments the officer looks up, "Sir, continued orbit would endanger two orbital cities, three mining stations, and affect flight patterns around Draco."
Prichard smiles, "A good move, but I cannot allow this to be completed. Flight Control, signal our own wing to move to engage the Falasmayon Gunstars and Assaultstars. Our Goliath and Javelin bombers are to engage as their squadron commanders see fit, Longshard squadrons will provide cover. Have the fighter groups of the heavy cruisers and destroyers move to attack the minelayers. Meanwhile, detach one wing of gunships, split them into two flights and have six of them assist to clear the minefield and the others move with our own fighters."
"Yes, sir."
"Contact the heavy cruisers, tell them to form up with us. We will concentrate our attack on the Battlestar that has the most comm traffic, that will be the group command ship."
Prichard then turns to the carrier's AI, representated as a hologram of a man in the uniform of a Meiji era Japanese officer.
"Is the Mobile DOS network ready and coordinated?"
"I have coordinated with my colleagues aboard the other ships, Captain Prichard. We will have the network fully deployed in 45 seconds."
"Good, Tora."
"Fighters are away, Captain, they are clear of missile cones."
"Good," Prichard opens a channel to the heavy cruisers. "Open fire, target based on tactical control from the Claw."
With that the Tiger Claw and her four heavy cruiser escorts open with their first barrage. 112 missiles followed by glaring beams of energy from their pulse cannons. The destroyers form up in a pattern to cover the main ships of the small group.
Meanwhile 144 fighters from the Tiger Claw (1 squadron of Goliath heavy bombers, 2 of Javelin medium bombers, and 3 of Longshard interceptors) and 6 Cancer gunships streak toward the Gunstars and Assaultstars. The smaller group of 40 Longshard fighters and another 6 gunships move toward the minelayers and their minefield. Once the mine clearing group reaches ranger, they send 80 deadly missiles into the minefield, targeted to get the minelaying ships and their deployed cargoes.
***************
Aboard the Judicator, Commodore von Hienlien watches the movements of the Falasmayon 1st Fleet Division. He stands hands clasped at the small of his back.
"Have the fleet manuver 180 degrees and form up in wall of battle formation 33-A. Signal the Foehammer, Centurion & Grendel to ready for a broadside. We will hit the Falasmayon ships from maximum range. Let us see if they like being hit when they cannot hit us."
"Aye, Commodore," the force under von Hienlien moves with precision, all the broadsides presented, protected by their own sleek Mobile DOS drones.
"Have the Sherman scramble its fighters and form up. Have all other ships ready their own flights and squadrons, I want them all deployed after our barrage."
"Commodore, the other battleships are asking for targets."
Von Hienlien smiles, "We will target the Heavy Battlestar Corsican first, full barrage. Inform the battleships second barrage will focus on the Geminon."
"Yes, Commodore."
"Then give me an all group link."
"Done, Commodore."
"All ships, this is Commodore von Hienlien. The Falasmayon commander thinks he can threaten the city of Yamahci-Osaga, let us teach him that he is in error. All ships are to scramble fighters and ready broadside batteries. Await my command to fire. In the meantime, cover the Judicator and her sister ships."
He closes the link, "Contact the other battleships, tell them to open fire."
"Yes, Commodore."
"I will not have repeat of the raid by Yuugi, even if it is fictional," he mummers to himself.
The battleships broadsides erupt. The attack totals 192 missiles; 20 of which are nuclear warhards, 12 carbon busters, 28 laser warheads, and the rest Valinon conventional warheads. The outpuring of missiles is followed by glaring energy beams from 2 particle cannons and 6 heavy pulse cannons from each battleship. The onslaught streaks forward unmercifully, ready to tear into the Corsican, even as the battleships focus for a second wave against the Geminon.

OOC: Really... long post...sorry.
IC: "Sir, the Valinon carrier group is moving in." was the report from the sit.com. officer. just as the minelayer finished their work. The presence of the ships had been known to the Falasmayon group for a while, but they were'nt going to move in without action on their part.
"Group form up!" ordered, Captain Harkon aboard the Odin. "Deploy fighters, and bombers and initiate fleet screen maneuver. The 10 escort ships took point to the Battlestars, and the two ships released their complement of 6 fighter squadrons and six bomber squadrons. Then the Valinon began their assault.
"Transmit the standby codes to the mines. we can't have them all blowing up right away can we. also order the minelayer clear and back to the fleet. Gunstars and assaultstars forward, their main objective is the carrier the cruisers are secondary." came the orders over the command frequencies of the falasmayon ships.
The 10 escort ships raced forward toward the capital ships and their destroyer escorts at full speed. 60 Vyper Interceptors joined the escorts in their dash. 100 nuclear anti-ship missiles lanced forward from the prows of the charging Assaultstars and heavy beams of laser cannon fire from the Gunstars speared towards the group. (I do realize that in order to reach the carrier I'm firing through the gunships and fighter you deployed, I'll leave decisions as to what hits what to you.) As the 'stars reached the fighter and gunship group between them and the carrier the Vypers broke off to duel with the Valinon fighters and bombers. Seperately, 60 Cobra bombers sped towards the carrier group from a different angle.
The two Battlestars had just enough time to get into "incoming fire position" Their fronts were pointed at the Carrier group in a slightly nose down manner that allowed both prow and dorsal weapons to come to bear, and presented the ships most armoured sides to the onslought. Flak fire erupted at the oncoming missiles from the prow and dorsal cannons of the ships, while twenty interdictor missiles also fired towards the incoming cloud. The interdictors exploded in midst of the incoming missiles destroying some in ahail of shrapnel and blasting other harmlessly off course. The flak cannons and their skilled gunners also claimed many of the missiles. But the sheer number of missiles was nearly overwhelming. The missiles exploded harmlessly just moments before actually impacting the hulls of the Battlestars, but the ship's computers extrapolated damage. Likewise, the minimally set energy of the lasers was easily absorbed by the hull circuity of the 'stars, but the computers extrapolated damage. Reads an computer generated 3-D models on both Valinon and falasmayon ships showed the theoretical damage. Burn marks scored the Battlestar's hulls and chunks and cracks were visible in their armour, but the damage was mostly cosmetic. The defenses of the Battlestars had been able to repel this paticular salvo, other ones however, were yet to be determined.
When the longshard and gunships fired into the minefield their weaponry blew dents and holes into the field, but because the warheads had been temporarily deactivated, there was no great domino effect of rolling explosions. ( remember your guys don'y know for sure that the mines are necessarily deactivated, they may have not exploded for another reason.)
"Return fire." ordered Harkon, " hit the minefield attackers. A 45 degree turn brought the minefields attackers into prow weapons arc. The ships loosed twenty missiles, fused for proximity detonation, at the group, then rotated back towards the carrier assault. Starboard guns on both battlestars opened up on the assembled Longshards, and gunships.
(Eeesh! long reply. oh well, to sum up. 100 missiles going through the gunstar attackers towards the carrier group. energy weaponry, is 10 H. beam cannons, and 20 high-energy plasma(HEP) cannons. 20 missiles on proximity fuses and weapons fire is going towards the minefield attack group.)
******
The duel between Heinlein and Dosh was set and begun. "Fine, if he doesn't want to come play with me, then I'll come to him." mused Dosh.
The 20 Gunstars and Assaultstars dashed forward splitting into two groups of 10 ships each, They raced towards Valinon aiming to get into effective range.(I'll be in range for the gunstars pretty quick.) As the ships passed on either side of the incoming missiles, the Assault srats loosed a flight of interdictors into their path, which exploded detonating many missiles. A hail of Flak fire from the 11 ships also took its toll. most of the missiles were destroyed. Some got through though and hit the H. Battlestar, causin significant damage to the ablative armour and starting several theoretical fires on some decks. The laser weaponry though could not be diminished. The blasts streaked into the ships, striking many vessels. Several ships suffered damage to their dissipatory circuitry, or took damage to their hulls, most og it didn't actually hit the Corsican though because of the ships in between. The H. Battlestar went mostly undamaged due to the power of its dampening circuitry.
"Report." commanded Captain Dosh.
"Several ships, have fluctuations in their power grids and the Horus has had a complete failure of its dampening circuitry on its starboard side. Other ships report similar but lesser damage. Lots of hull scoring from missiles, but not much more from them, for the moment. We can't take too many more of those sir."
"Fine then, We won't dance to his tune. All deployed fighters and bombers forward. All ships forward. Split groups. 3 Battlestars and 2 patrolstars on the Corsican. 2 Battlestars and 2 patrolstars ob the Geminon. One group take high, the other low. Gunstars and Assaultstars run port and starboard. Fighters approach straight down the middle. we'll divide their fire. Give them a missile barrage to split them up.
The ships parted into groups and began moving forward. 6 Capital ships moved to approach from above, 5 apprached from below. The Escort ships continued their apprach from the left and right. The fighter craft
(21 interceptor squadrons, 21 bomber squadrons, 504 fighters in total) powered in from the front. Behind, the fighters, 100 Anti-ship missiles blazed, using the bulk of the fighter craft to shield the missiles from sensor view. The Valinon ships were being closed of from all directions except the rear.
(I am keeping in mind that the ships are approaching froma forward direction, so coming from above, actually means coming in high from the front. Eeeck... I need to learn to shorten my posts.!)
Falasmayon

double post :(
The wave of fighters from the Claw break their initial formation as the "invaders" move to engage. The Longshards dogfight with the Falasmayon. With almost equal numbers, they busy with the Vypers, while the bombers use their own anti-fighters weapons to keep the sleek interceptors at bay as they set in for their attack runs. While the fighters and bombers have no problems dodging the missiles, the gunships have their difficulties, especially with their distance from the main Mobile DOS network. One is caught by several missile, and its explodes in a short-lived fireball. Another is several damaged, losing almost all of its portside weaponary and sensors. One gunship attached to the fighters makes it through unscathed.
Meanwhile the AIs of the main force "watch" the oncoming assault cooly, also noting the bombers vectoring around the main engagement perimeter. But their main priority is the 100 anti-ship missiles streaking toward them. The Mobile DOS drones activate, using their rapid-fire lasers and interception missiles to deal with the majority of the missiles. They destroy all but 14 of the missiles, the others which are mostly dispatched by the ships own point defense systems. A destroyer takes a few hits causing non-essential damage, and a gunship trying to support the Tiger Claw loses its secondary sensor array.
The energy fire dissipates on the larger capital ships' shields, with two destroyers taking the brunt of the "damage" their AIs simulating a loss of point defense emplacements and damage to the primary launch hanger.
Prichard watches the Falasmayon attack dissipate.
"All ships 175 degrees, prepare for a full broadside in a wall of battle formation. All ships in the main formation are to fire on my mark. Signal the heavy cruisers and 4 of the destroyers to target the commanding battlestar. The other four destroyers are to assist the gunships and fighters with their attack on the assault and gun stars."
Prichard waits a few moments, "Open fire!"
The response of the groups broadside is larger than their previous forward barrage. 289 missile streak away, followed by another blast from energy batteries, all directed toward the Falasmayon group command ship. Minutes later the four other destroyers send 128 missiles toward the Falasmayon assault and gun stars.
Closer in the Goliath heavy bombers split into two groups of six ships. Each one focuses on an assaultstar, and sends 18 heavy rockets sweeping in toward the assaultstars. The javelins move in and return with their own volleys.

OOC: OK lets see if I can figure this out.
IC: The Battlestars SitCom screens light up with incoming missile fire. INterdictors lance into the missile cloud, again detonating in the midst of the swarm, however, their effect is markedly less due to the sheer volume of fire. The targeted ship takes a defensive position, while the other rotates 90 degrees to port and rolls to present its dorsal. Flak fire blasts outward from both ships, from the dorsal guns of the commanding 'star and from the starboard and dorsal guns of the other ship. The increased fire helps but still they come. The Odin suffers onder the impact some 75 missiles and a full barrage of energy cannon fire. Prow and dorsal armour cracks and breaks off in chunks, The Dampening circuitry of the ships, glows a brilliant golden but gets overwhelmed by the energy, capacitors explode, and entire panels of circuitry go offline, letting the assault get through. The ship suffers near total loss of dorsal and prow dampeners, and critical damage to its ablative armour. One missile causes a hull breach in the prow across two decks, While energy blasts blow out ports and fry electrical circuitry to the dorsal guns. The ship only escapes more damage by the fact that the energy blasts cama all at once, they overloaded the dampening circuits but there were few energy bolts left to take advantage of the down circuitry.
The Goliaths make their runs on the Assaultstars, the few Flak cannons on the Assaultstars blast clouds of shrapnel into the attacking bombers. Blasts riddle the ships, destroying guns and armour. Several ships lose Flak cannons in the run and one ship loses main engines. The 9 powered ships use their maneuverability to the max to avoid the missile fire. The unmaneuvering Assaultstar, fires a full barrage. Just before the 9 ships hit the incoming barrage, they slideslip hard to ports and jump out of the missiles path. Before the missiles can compensate, the Interdictors, hit destroying or confusing most of the missiles. The small remainder are either destroyed by the 'stars FLAK cannons or are absorbed by the port armour of the ships.
The Gunstars and Assault open up again with a full barrage 80 missiles, 10 H. Beam Cannons, and 20 HEP cannons. This time aimed at the destroyers screening the larger ships.
A few minutes later, the bombers hit their runs, concentrating on the carrier, The bombers make their runs approaching from the rear bottom of the Tiger Claw (since it turned to present a broadside blast to the Battlestars). The 60 bombers fire their high explosives missiles into keel of the carrier as the make their runs along the length of the ship.

The destroyers of the Valinor group move to engage their Falasmayon opponents. The gunship wing left moves to support the four closest to the oncoming Falasmayon attack ships. One gunship is destroyed by fire from the gun and assault stars. The destroyers form up into a minature wall of battle and then fire their broadside attack, sending 145 missiles and energy fire toward the oncoming ships. The gunships move quickly to help the Mobile DOS network intercept the oncoming fire.
The shields of the destroyers hold against most of the Falasmayon energy attack, the most severe damage being one destroyer take a hit to the engine block, leaving it running at 50% normal capacity.
Aboard the Tiger Claw Prichard is jarred momentarily by the scream of radar lock alerts as the bombers fire.
"Refocus inner sphere of Mobile DOS network! All point defenses intercept those fighters!"
The AIs rapidly respond, the drones of the Mobile DOS network intercepting all but 19 of the missiles. An additional 14 are consumed by the carrier's point defenses, the others manage to get through, destroying point defense emplacements and damaging an engine core.
"Shut down number 4, reroute power!" shouts Prichard.
"Yes, Sir!"
The point defenses of the Tiger Claw set their wrath upon the bombers running along the ship's length. Guided by the merciless, and somewhat enraged AI, their fire streams in from quick interception missiles and from rapid fire laser, pulse, and particle cannons.
Prichard watches as the fighter squadrons fall behind the assault and gun stars for the moment. A plan comes into his head.
"Range until the assault and gun stars are in an EMP sphere with destroyers?"
"10 minutes, Captain."
"Signal the heavy cruisers and the Magellan. I want an all out EMP missile attack now! Focus on the assault and gun stars!"
With that the carrier and the heavy cruisers unleash one barrage on the lead Battlestar (same numbers as before) , then rapidly retarget the oncoming assault and gun star groups. Their next wave consists of 177 EMP pulse missiles, streaking for a proximity interception with the oncoming assault and gun stars.
"Let us see how well a simulation of an EMP goes for you," Prichard says. "Guns, prepare to retarget the second battlestar!"

Hmm either I've just really poorly conceived my fleet or I'm underplaying its ability, oh well, I'll figure it out when this whole thing is over.
Harkon watched the third wave of fire baze out from the Valinon ships. His ship couldn't take much more of this. The Battlestars once again prepared to recieve fire. The Odin took a different position that placed it's keel and lower prow in fire range, the Nafarious repeated its last maneuver. This time however, because of the focus on rapidly switching to a new target, the fire was less potent.
Interdictors exploded, taking out missiles. Flak Cannons and the one remaining Vyper squad claimed others. There was nothing to be done about the reaminig missiles, they fortunately exploded on mostly fresh armour, blasting upon plates of durasteel on the keel of the ship. The energy rounds were another matter. With a full power engine blast, the Nefarious interceded itself between the Laser blasts and the damaged ship. The port side of the ship glowed from bow to stern, and emergency cpacitors blew out in several places, but much was absorbed because the circuitry was undamaged. The 2nd Battlestar lost its port dampening circuitry and several weapons batteries. The lead Battlestar took sereious hits on it's already damaged prow armour and lost 2 missile banks.
"I've had enough, close to weapons range and fire!" odered Harkon. The two Battlestars began powering forward, launching 18 torpedoes at the H. Cruisers as as the Valinon ships fired on the Gunstars.
The Gunstars and Assaultstars saw the turning cruisers and carrier. as soon as the missile flight was away, the Assaultstars, fired Interdictors into them. Then the ships broke to port and starboard. The maneuver would have all but defeated a conventional missile barrage, but the EMP missiles were different. The Interdictors were able to shred many, before the armed and exploded, But the proximity fuses ignited the remainder. Spheres of blue energy pulsed out from each warhead and engulfed the Escorts. electricity skipped across their hulls starting fires and shorting out electrical equipment not sufficiently shielded.
2 Assaultstars suffered computer shutdown, leavig them ballistic, barreling towards the ever closer Cruisers. It was only a few moments before their reserve systems, which had been heavily shielded, began a cold start of the systems. Several other ships took engine control damage, and fire control damage.
The 5 Gunstars responded by opening up with their guns. 10 H. Beam Cannons, 20 HEP cannons, and now 10 short-range Electron Arc guns fired on the Cruisers.
The Bombers, which had been severly damaged by their run also turned for another pass at the carrier. coming in low over the flight deck. Only 24 of the 60 planes remained, but those bombers raced the length of the carrier, once again unloading High-explosives into the flight deck of the ship.
Current Damage:
2 Assaultstars- incapacitated
1 Assaultstar- Main engine offline
1 Battlestar- Prow & Dorsal Dampeners offline
Prow & Dorsal Armour minimal
2 missile banks & dorsal Flak Cannons offline
1 Battlestar- Fluctuating Port Dampeners
Prichard watches as the missile from the bombers streak in toward one of the Tiger Claw's flight bays.
"Tora, can you get them all?"
"No, Commodore. I estimate that the flight bay will be damaged and reduced to 48% launching capacity."
"No," whispers Prichard. He watches as the missiles streak in, the point defenses intercede, sending interceptors and energy fire flying in. 9 of the heavy missiles slip through, two are disabled by a hastily activate electronic jamming shield, but the others go through. The front of one of the Claw's bays erupts in fire. When the blast clears the magnetic containment field is damaged, and parts and bodies flying into space before the atmosphere is bled off.
"Retarget all cannons on those fighters! Blast them out of the void!" Prichard bellows. The Tiger Claw slows and opens up with its powered down batteries, raging against its attackers. All of its energy batteries and point defenses now only have eyes for the bombers swarming it
"Damage!"
"Flight bay damage control crews working to clear the bay, Captain! Switching all operations over to other bay for now!"
The sensor officer looks up, "Falasmayon battlegroup closing!"
"Slow us to 2/3s, Helm! Inform the other ships to screen. Contact our fighters, have them take the Falasmayon assault and gun stars from behind!"
"Yes, sir!"
The heavy cruisers move rapidly to close with the oncoming Falasmayon ships. Meanwhile the destroyers, already closer to the wave of Falasmayon support craft enter into the fray with their support craft. The resulting fire from them is a wall of 138 missiles in one wave with energy fire behind, then they begin to form groups to engage the Falasmayon ships. The fighters of the Tiger Claw and their gunship support move to close the distance between them. The fighters and bombers clear range first, sending out a 90 missile barrage as they accelerate to skim enter close range (as in 15km or lower close).
The heavy cruisers form up and launch another salvo at the battlestars, targeting Harkon's lead ship's prow with the 165 missiles and a wave of energy. They then send a second barrage off toward the Nefarious.
But then the Mobile DOS drones begin to move, they form their own spanning wall in front of the heavy cruisers. On the bridge of the Claw Prichard turns to the ships AI hologram projection.
"Tora?"
"We are clearing the field, Captain," the AI says in his strange voice. With that the AIs fire their drones particle cannons in a focused beam into the assault and gunstars. The cannons are designed for missiles and small fighters, but focused like this the results are unknown. Prichard restrains the curse he wishes to rattle at the designers who put the system under the control of the Valinor AIs.
The heavy cruisers and first wave of Falasmayon ships meet. The two barreling down toward the Vladmir find themselves captured by the ships grav beams and sent spiraling off into space. Meanwhile the cruisers now turn their attention to the approaching warships. The heavy cruisers send off missiles and energy fire at targets of opportunity. The gunstars close, and the heavy cruisers respond a delicate and deadly dance. The heavy cruiser Honor, oldest of the cruisers, suffers. Its port side raked by fire, the shields begin to buckle and the point defenses cannot handle the concentrated fire of two of the gunstars. Hull plates blacken and the AIs scream failures on port side batteries and a loss of sensor equipments, partially blinded and partially declawed on one side, the Honor's commander begins to move his ship, bringing its undamage starboard side into the fray.
The Victor and the Black Knight move into close to each other. The helm officers guide their ships with a skilled efficiency, until the two are seperate by a bare 23 kilometers. Then the two ships set a wall of missiles and energy against the closing gunstars, acting as a bastion against their assault.
The Vladmir moves rapidly to assist the bleeding Honor sending out energy and missiles from its forward batteries as it charges. Its rear batteries try and track the disabled assault stars it flung aside, long range pulse cannons trying to hit the ships with their powered down blasts.

OOC: Couple things, since the Assaultstars have mass of at least a destroyer, i'm going to assume that grav beams couldn't exactly "fling" them. How about they deflect them enough so that the ships spin harmlessly and impotently past. Second, delete double post :( .
IC: The fire from the Tiger Claw decimates the bombers as they fly off. The big guns are easily avoided, but the point defenses destroy a squadron and a half. Damaged beyond effectiveness, the bombers fly off to a safe distance.
As the destroyers fire, the 'stars react, the Assaultstars fire, Interdictors(run'in low) and Proximity fused EMP missiles into the missile barrage. The Interdictors explode destroying missiles, many of those which survived have their electronic fried by the EMP and glance impotently off the slanted prows on the ships. Others are destroyed by FLAK. Those which survive to explode on the ships, shred prow armour. The energy fire is somewhat more effective. The ships were designed for a frontal asault so the dampening circuits on the prow are exceptionally strong, much energy is rerouted harmlessly to downstep capacitors, Some blasts into the armour though, melting parts and burning out frontal circuitry in places on the ships.
The fire from the DOS systems, was largely ineffective despite its size because of the low power of thier guns. The shots put temporary spots in the dampening circuits of the 'stars, which would aid the assaults to come, but little else.
The fighters and bombers which broke off from their Falasmayon counterparts are next. Reachingrange just as the escorts clear the destroyers and begin a "drop maneuver". They fire their weaponry but apparently forgot about the nearly immobile Assaultstar which had been left behind by the rest of the escorts. The Assaultstar fires 20 Interdictor missiles into them, which explode just after the fighters fire their barrage. also the remaining falasmayon Interceptors (3 squadrons) attack again firing upon the gunship and the fighters.
The 90 missiles of the Valinon craft catch the Assault and gunstars just after theit begin the drop maneuver. The missiles hit mostly dorsal armour. Some FLAK turrets are destroyed and most ships suffer about 20% armour failure in that are. One Gunstar is unlucky enough to catch 2 missiles in its engines. They disasble and engine cluster and drop the ship to half speed.
The drop maneuver slews the 7 craft below the H. Cruisers which (asumedly) rotate to bring them in the arc of their guns as they fire on them. However, the ships sudden drop leaves much of the unconcentrated fire useless. The Vladimir's shots are useless as the ship is more concerned with protecting the Honor. However, the two "free" ships are more effective. Some shots miss due to the rotation and several missiles are unable to compensate and sail uselessly off. The Dorsal FLAK turrets fire as the ships rotate and destroy several missiles. The ones that hit exacerbate the damage of the bombers with an Assaultstar suffering near total dorsal armour loss. The energy fire from the ships is damaging, though lessened by the inaccuracy forced by the ships rotation. Blasts tear into the prow of the ships making them glow like candles. A Gunstar loses its prow circuitry completely and sufferes a minor hull breach from the remaining shots and a second Gunstarstar takes a temporary loss to its circuits and an unlucky shot slags to barrels of two HEP cannons, but the rest of the ships get out without major damage though several suffer further damage to their already strained prow dampeners.
While they suffered under the fire of the H. Cruisers, the Gunstars and Assaultstars fired back, making use of the drop maneuver. The Assaultstars targeted the damaged Honor and the Vladimir with 40 missiles at close range. The Gunstars concentrated on the other two viable cruisers, Firing their full weaponry into the cruiser's sides.
Fire from 10 H. Beam Cannons, 18 HEP cannons, and 10 Electron Arc Guns raked the two cruisers from bow to stern at close range as the 'stars passed in an arc below them, which constantly kept the prows of the ships pointed at the Cruisers.
The fire from at the 2 Battlestars, is visible well befor its arrives. The two ships climbed relative to the incoming weaponry exposing their keels and lower prows. As they did so the Vyper squadron raced forward firing into the missiles. Keel FLAK cannons and 20 Interdictor fire also took their toll. Their was enough time for each barrage to be focused on seperately so both flights were lessened. The climb maneuver also got the ships out of the way of several energy blasts. Armour blasted off of the keels of both ships, but the more damaged Odin suffered considerably more. Missiles tore through the armour and exsposed electronic conduits near the hull, energy fire then blasted into them, shutting down power to the keel FLAK Cannons. One stupendously luck missile shot fired straight into the opening of the forward hangar bay and blasted the entryway into slag effectively ending fighter operation from that doorway. the other ship took slightly less damage. The sheilding in the area of its shuttle/cargo transport bay failed catastrophicly as energy blasted into it destroying ships inside and neutralizing the containment field, "spacing" the entire bay.
Sparks flew from the fighter coordinator's station on the Odin's command deck.
"Sir, I've lost fighter command, rerouting to the Nefarious."
"I'm getting decidedly ticked off!" raged Harkon, "Shoot them, we've taken too much without giving any back!"
The Battlestars pointed their noses to the Valinon ships once again this time from nearly a 50 degree angle above level relative to the ships. 36 missiles in 2 waves flew into the destroyer group. While constant fire from 60 Twin Heavy Cannons(16in. shells) blasted into the destroyers as well. (I figured that since your ships were doing so much maneuvering, that I could reasonably get off two missiles waves.)
Important
The two Assaultstars which had been tossed aside by the gravity beams of the cruisers finished rebooting their ship's systems. Due to the spin which had been placed on them, the pusle cannon shots fired on them were divided on numerous sides and was easily absorbed with little damage to the circuitry net. Temporarily free from targeting, the ship's captains took a quick moments to appraise their surrounding. Their comrades were busy engaging the H. Cruisers, while the Battlestars had different problems. The Tiger Claw looked preoccupied with its damage while the Mobi... while the Mobile Dos network, had removed itself from protecting the carrier to mass together and attack the 'stars. The Carrier was without DOS support and was vulnerable!
The 2 Assaultstars raced towards the TigerClaw appraching from slightly above and to the side of the ship. Both ships fired full barrages. 40 low-yield nuclear anti-ship missiles blasted at the now unprotected carrier. The two Assaultstars slewd to starboard and taking their opportunity, fired 20 Interdictor and 20 EMP missiles into the assembled cloud of DOS drones, counting on their preoccupation with attacking the other Gunstars and Assaultstars to divert the drones attention.
Quick summary:
Damage
Odin: lost keel energy dampeners & FLAK turrets, and damage to fighter bays.
Nefarious: lost main shuttle/cargo bay.
1 Gunstar: at 1/2 engines.
1 Gustar: total prow dampeners offline, dorsal armour lost
1 Gunstar: Port weaponry offline.
All Gunstars and Assualtstars: damage to prow and dorsal dampeners and armour. varying levels of damage.
Return Fire
40 missiles at the unprotected carrier.
40 missiles at the group of DOS drones.
40 missiles at the Honor and theVladimir.
36 missiles at the destroyers.
60 Twin Heavy Cannons firing streams of shells at the destroyers.
40 energy blasts from Gunstar weapons at the Black Knight and Victor.
20 Interdictors at the fighter group which attacked the Gunstars and Assualtstars from the rear.
36 Vyper Interceptors attacking the gunship in the fighter group.
OOC: Sorry, thought your Assaultstars were closer to my gunships.
And the carrier is far from undefended, do you not think we keep seconds in case the first Mobile DOS drones run dry? But I'm going to try something less redundant instead.
The attack takes its toll on the spread out patrol group. The Honor is caught in mid-manuver. Her AI simulates the complete failure of most the engine block, followed by massive hull breeches down the port side. The Valdmir is alerted of the "death" of its cousin and it accelerates, using the crippled and dying Honor as a shield. The mortally wounded heavy cruiser "dies," the Vladmir sails over it sending a renewed wave of missiles toward the attacking gunstars. Then it manuvers close in with the Black Knight and the Victor. Overlapping their shields and their point defences, the heavy cruisers turn away the attack of the gunstars. Their shields hold, with only the Vladmir taking heavy damage in the form of the loss of its secondary comm array and losing two portside pulse cannons.
The destroyers do not fare as well. Using their own defenses to intercede for the carrier, they are more open to attack. Two of the ships are destroyed outright, and another turned into a speeding block of metal.
The coherence of the fighter groups dissolves, becoming a running dogfight. The two damaged gunships are destroyed, the undamaged survivor is stripped of aft weaponary, then consumed by the Vypers when they arrive. The wing hastily reforms, in time to be struck by the Interdictors. Taking losses they move toward the main fleet.
Aboard the Tiger Claw Prichard watches the oncoming attack.
Tora turns, "Deploying the second array of drones."
"No! Helm, emergency jump! Lock in emergency exit coordinates!"
The helm officer looks unsure then turns back to his console, "Yes, Captain!"
Prichard watches the missiles streak in, and the point defenses activate.
"Activate Verner drives!" the Tiger Claw performs a risky emergency jump, taking it nearly 500,000 kilometers away from its initial position. However, some missiles managed to reach it, destroying several chase emplacements.
Prichard restrains a sigh of relief, "Prepare to jump again, lay in coordinates 280 kilometers behind heavy cruisers."
"Yes, Captain."
"Contact the fleet, tell them to form up in wall formation on the Black Knight."
"Aye, sir."
Prichard watches the display as the distant ships begins to move.
"Damn it all" he swears under his breath. He knew his force was outgunned, and now it was beginning to show. "Contact Draco, do a full dump of the situation."
"Yes, sir."
"Captain, activating Verner drives in 5...4...3...2...1!"
Meanwhile the Mobile DOS network engages, the agile drones easily dodge the missiles sent against it, but EMPs are another matter. When all is told 44% of the DOS network is destroyed. The remainders draw in close to the ships, forming a more effective defense sphere.
***************
Captain (JG) Kelis, master of the Black Knight watches the carrier disappear, "No!"
He turns to his own AI, "Deploy second wave of Mobile DOS drones."
"Underway."
"What word from Prichard?"
"Claw preparing to jump back, Captain. All ships to form up on the Knight until its return"
"Thank God. Signal all the other ships tell them to prepare for a full EMP attack."
"But the fighters."
"Which will it be, the fighters or the warships!" Kelis turns to his exec, who turns his head aside.
"Now fire those EMPS!"

OOC: Oh, pooey on your not actually undefended carrier! Thought I had it that time!  and what do you mean out-gunned!!?? I thought you had me out-gunned! (odd how our viewpoints differ)
"Sir, the carrier's gone!" calls out, the SitCom officer on one of the two assaultstars. "She's jumped.... I think she ran o... No Wait! She's reappeared half a million klicks off."
"Fine, lets give a hand to our brothers with those Hvy. Cruisers. Bring us about." The two ship rotated and retargeted.
The 5 Gunstars and 2 Assaultstars complete the drop maneuver just as the Valinon ships form their battle wall. The continue the circle now taking them above the relative level plane, but the EMP strike hits them first. The explosions of the missiles disable all 7 of the ships. Only reboot computer, hull dampeners, and back-up systems are shielded enough to spare them. The ships computers immediately began emergency cold start procedures. But the return of systems was at least an agonizing minute away. The ships continued the rising motion of their maneuver, now ballistic they slowly spun exposing prow and then dorsal sides.
The fire from the ships was devastating. Without FLAK turrets or other suppport missiles and energy round blasted home frighteningly. Raking the prows and dorsals of the ships. The most damaged gunstar was reduced to a broken hulk. Another ship suffered total engine collapse and became a derelict helpless to arrest its motion and with no main weaponry. All of the ships took severe damage to their armour and dampeners, several suffered outright failure of one or both system. One Assaultstar lost all its missile launchers.
The Battlestars took damage as well, but not nearly as much as the battered escorts. Both ships lost accelerator cannons and ion cannons. The Odin took most with the total loss of keel weaponry. and the failure of armour.
The Battlestars responded with attack. The opened up with all remaing batteries and missile fire into the battle wall from the rear. Also The single remaining bomber squadron launched as well.
Suddenly the Tiger Claw appears between the battlestars and the Cruisers. It almost immediately begins taking cannon fire since it appeared in the way of the firing stream and the missiles from the Battlestars.
"Keep Firing!"ordered Harkon, " Direct all batteries to the carrier. Reroute the Bombers to make their run on the carrier!"
The 12 Cobras made a small course adjustment and began their bombing run on the carrier.
The 3 remaining Assaultstars targeted the Hvy. Cruisers with fire. 60 missiles raced into the battlewall from 2 sides.
Casualties
2 Gunstar (1 made useless in combat)
Damage
1 Assaultstar without weaponry
1 Assaultstar loses prow/dorsal armour, dorsal dampeners, dorsal FLAK
1 Gunstar lost port weaponry, dorsal armour, dampeners, and FLAK
2 Gunstars lose all dorsal weaponry and FLAK
Odin lost all keel defenses and weapons and port fighter bay
Nefarious lost main bay
Damage to both Battlestars defenses on the prow, keel, and dorsal
Return Fire
Undamaged cannons(about 80 cannons 80 ion cannons) on Battlestars fire continously towards the Cruisers.
40 missiles from the Assaultstars into the carrier.
20 missiles from one Assaultstar in the cruisers.
24 HE missiles from the bombers into the Vladimir.
38 Low-yield nuke AS missiles at the cruisers from the Battlestars.
(Remember, the Accelerator Cannons aren't all that huge, certainly not the same as your Hvy. plasma cannons of probably your normal plasma cannons. The huge number of guns is still a very strong assault but not nearly an all-powerful one.
OOC: Now I am confused..... Are the battlestars BEHIND my cruisers? God, I am slipping if they are. And by now you should have realized the main weakness of the Star Armada. TG me if you think you know it. Oh, and could you give me a relative position on those battlestars before I post again?

Sure, heres how I pictured the battlefied. (for reference we'll put your cruisers in the center of the picture. Your original side was the left and my side was the right.)
Your cruisers and destroyers were in the center of the picture forming a wall pointed at my Gunstars and Assaultstars. Because of the maeuver I had them do the Gunstars and Assaultstars are on the opposite side of wall from the Battlestars. Gunstars on left side of the wall Battlestars on the right. By "behind the wall" I figured you would mean the side opposite the Gunstars and Assaultstars. So that puts the carrier between the Battlestars and the Battlewall.
How did you picture the battle?
Also, would you like to come over tomorrow at about 5 pm for a New Years Party? It would be full of lots of Xbox and probably Warhammer and otherstuff.
Same way, except I was willing to risk the gun and assault stars and jump the carrier back on the right side of the cruisers. Ideally I am figuring that between the carrier's own defenses and the fire from the other ships it could hold its own. Especially since the communication between the AIs are going to show that your gunstars aren't running fully capable across the board.
As for this New Year's Eve bash....I will give you a call tomorrow. I have to work tomorrow afternoon and into the evening, plus I have some other plans. Let me see what I can arrange.

OOC: Ah. alright then, in that case I will alter my last post.
Missiles and fire from Battlestars goes towards the Hvy. Cruisers. The bombers make their run on the Vladimir instead of the carrier.
Since your carrier came in on the Gunstar/Assaultstars side of the wall. Instead of being in the path of the Battlestars it is in the path of the 40 missiles from the 2 Assaultstars which attacked it before it jumped out. The appearance of the carrier in the path of the missiles would likely cause most of them to retarget themselves to hit the closer, larger carrier. So you've still got the 40 missiles hitting the carrier. If you check back to the last return fire post I will have it updated so that it is correct you can use that for reference.
as for your weakness, I'm still workin' on it, so far it beats me. You've got plenty of long range weaponry, loads of missiles, your Mobile DOS drones give you plenty of point defenses. The only thing I can remotely see is an apparent lack of carrier vessels, but that doesn't look like enough to me. Hmmm I must ponder
Prichard's face is hard and stern-set as the missiles come in.
"Tora, point defense estimates?"
"Mobile DOS network cannot come online to deter this barrage. Engaging with point defenses."
"Guns, prepare to engage the nearest ships. Helm, take us in closer to the cruisers."
"Yes, Captain."
Prichard watches his tactical display, watches as the missiles streak toward his ship. The Claw's point defenses come online, rapid-fire laser clusters and interceptor missiles flying against their opponents. Twelve missiles get through the barrage. ECM fields and decoys deploy, the next line of defense for the carrier, 3 missiles are lured away. But nine hit the carrier amidship. Damage alerts scream as the explosions rack the hull. Atmosphere rents from the previously damaged flight bay.
Prichard hits the comm and roars over the den of noise, "Damage control, REPORT!"
"We've lost three portside pulse cannons, sensor stations 13, 12, and 15 are disabled. Tora is trying to divert and reconfigure. Mobile DOS drone launchers 37 and 29 are gone, 36 is crippled."
"Divert power from Reactor 3 to shields, reinforce port side. Guns, continous fire, targets of your discretion."
"Aye, sir."
The stricken carrier's port side patterns release a hail of fire, sending new missile waves of around 55 each at intervals of 15 seconds. The energy batteries focus fire on their targets, trying to obliterate the assault and gunstars.
Meanwhile the heavy cruisers begin to deploy the second wave of Mobile DOS drones. Using them to cover while they attack the battlestars. The Victor is struck on its side, disabling a few missile pods. The Black Knight at the center of the formation remains unscathed. The Vladmir turns its fire toward the oncoming fighters. While the remants of the Tiger Claw's fighter groups engage them (right now at just around 4 squadrons left). The remainin destroyers accelerate away from the wall of battle, moving to engage the battlestars at close quarters.

Of the 5 ships attempting to revive their electronics, 3 manage to get systems back up before the next Valinon assault. One Gunstar takes barrages of fire to its unarmoured dorsal, rending large breaches in its hull, the damage is extensive and crippling, under the continous barrage both wings are drilled of and the ship breaks up in explosions. The other Gunstar loses its prow and dorsal armour and dampeners before restoring its systems and rotation its keel to the fight.
The now useable assaultstars and Gunstars rotate to firing positions, and blast in to the Carrier. 20 missiles fire into the port side along with along with fire from 4 hvy. beam cannons, 8 beam cannons, 15 Accelerator cannons, and 15 ion cannons.
The two previously undamaged Assaultstars begin taking fire as the race inward, but are still capable of launching a 40 missile barrage at the Tiger Claw.
The weaponless Assaultstar simulates going to full power, and blazing in at top speed towards the command superstructure of the carrier, aiming to smash the entire complex into pieces by ramming it.
The two Battlestars, fire a second 38 missile barage into the Victor. while turning the Accelerator Cannons on the destroyers. damage has redused the numer of cannons, to about 60, but the 60 twin-cannons begin firing high-explosive shells into the approaching destroyers. The Assaultstar that on the same side as the carrier, fires its 20 missiles into the Victor.
The bombers, missiles fire into the Vladimir while the 2 remaining interceptor squads attack the fighters from the Tiger Claw.
Captain Kelis does not wait for the orders from the Tiger Claw, he has grown tired of Prichard's ineptitude. He looks at the incoming missile attacks.
"Redirect point defenses and reconfigured Mobile DOS to cover the Victor."
Kelis' second looks at him, "And the Vladmir?"
"Commander Dant will have to rely on his own devices."
"....Of course, Captain."
The point defenses and Mobile DOS of the Black Knight come to the aid of the Victor. Their intense fire destroys all but five of the oncoming missiles. The low yield explosions detonate, the AI of the Victor simulating loss of another broadside missile pod, as well as the destruction of several point defense laser clusters.
The Vladmir fires as the bombers launch missiles. As they prepare to veer off, the last missile wave catches the older cruiser severely. The shield projectors on the starboard side fade, the weaponry is savaged. The fighters of the Tiger Claw streak off in pursuit, trying to divide their attention between the bombers and the fighters headed for the Claw.
Aboard the Claw Prichard watches as the damaged assaultstar streaks in.
"Concentrate all dorsal and portside batteries on that ship!"
"What about the rest of the enemy barrage?"
"Tora, handle it."
"Captain, the Mobile DOS drones are not fully prepared, I will not be able to stop more than 65% of the wave."
"Do it!" Prichard shouts. The carrier sends a massive wave of 60 missiles off, the launchers and energy batteries go into a nearly continous stream. But the missile attack of the other ships does not bode well for the carrier. Thirty-four missiles make it through the not yet fully operational DOS drones, twenty-six survive the point defenes. The port side of the Tiger Claw is wreathed in flame. The shield projectors falter, allowing energy fire to pass through. Further hits score armor and rip at the already "damaged" flight bay. More explosions ensue as a portside magazine erupts.
Kelis watches the carnage consuming the Claw.
"Estimated damage?"
"Sir, the Claw is venting atmosphere all along the port side. All port side weaponry is destroyed or inoperable. Shields are barely holding at 12% of normal levels. The main sensor and communication arrays are out. Portside flight bay is completely gone. Crew on the starboard side is preparing to man escape pods."
"Comm, signal Draco, inform them the Claw has been rendered destroyed. Inform Rear Admiral Horatio that I am taking command of the rest of the patrol group and jumping for Surani-Oga."
"Yes, Captain."
"Tactical, inform all ships to make ready to jump."
"Yes, sir."
The patrol group begins to reorient, another destroyer is taken by the fire of the battlestars. One of the damaged ones losses its main hanger bay. But finally, the ships at last manage to jump. Leaving behind a "dead" Tiger Claw, a heavy cruiser, numerous gunships, and even more numerous fighters.

Admiral Marmaduke of the Ortagan Solar Navy watches as his ship exits hyperspace near the gas giant Prometheus. He is aboard the Charlemagne, a Corrin class battleship, escorted by a trio of Eagle class assault cruisers.
"Inform Draco that we are here to observe the war games. Then take us in on a course toward the installion. We can dispatch the Eagles to combat observation positions once we know the disposition of forces."
His second, Captain Lunesca, bows her head, "Yes, Admiral."

Harkon took stock of his force. The Odin had taken massive prow damage and only slightly less dorsal damage, it was salvageable though, if he got it back to the MTCB. The Nefarious would need some reapirs but was mostly fully functional. The damage report began scrolling across his display.
1 Assaultstar destroyed
1 Assaultstar without realspace engines
1 Assaultstar with moderate damage
3 Gunstars destroyed
2 Gunstars with moderate damage
1 Battlestar with severe damage
The ships turned to rejoin the fleet moving in-system. As the ships passed the minefield they reactivated it. When the ships returned the Odin, 2 Gunstars and 2 Assasultstars moved into the MTCB's ship hangar for repairs. The rest of the ships rejoined the fleet.
(I'll delete 4 ships from my roster at the beginnig so that I don't forget... Now its time for the other battle.)
OOC: Assuming that your missiles are moving with the fighters.
Von Hienlien watches the manuvers of the Falasmayon fleet cooly.
"Stupid, do they honestly think I will let them dictate my options? Tactical, have the light cruisers cruisers and the destroyers target the incoming fighters with a full EMP barrage. I want the Foehammer, Centurion, & Grendel to target the Geminicon. Guns, what is our status on the Geminicon?"
"Clear shots so far, Commodore."
"Good, kindly show the Falasmayon what a "real" nuclear attack is like."
"Aye, sir."
"Also, scramble ECM drones with our missiles, let us see how their vaunted defenses do then. Have the heavy cruisers focus fire on the Corsican. After barrage all ships are to go to max acceleration, we will anull their dispersion by going into the Shoals."
"Yes, sir."
OOC: Attacks.....
356 EMP Proximity Explosions Missiles from Light cruisers and destroyers toward fighters and missiles

The fighters and bombers open fire on the approaching missiles. The 504 small craft more than halve the number of missiles, leaving about 150. Squadrons begin break off to evade, when suddenly the missile explosions on the first wave, reveals that the missiles are EMP. The fighter and bombers pull up and over hard, allowing the missile flight behind them to get ahead. The missiles divert the EMPs away from the ships. The EMP blasts disable almost the entire wave of Falasmayon missiles, and 4 squadrons of bombers which were unable to get away in time. the rest of the ships retarget and fly in again.
The Assaultstars once again fire into the missiles flying towards the battle formations. Their 200 Interdictors are joined by 300 from the Battlestars, Hvy. Battlestars and Patrolstars. FLAK cannons and 4 Vyper squadrons also attack the incoming ordnance. the wall of fire is prodigious. Missiles impact the ships, blasting into their front armour. Most of the damage comes from the 4 nukes that got through.
Dosh sees the explosions of the nuclear warheads in blast the ships of the Geminon's group off course.
"Report now!" he orders his SitCom officer.
"Sir, all the ships have taken damage. Leo shows port dampening failure, Acadia shows starboard. The Geminon has prow failure. The Elacrity and the Aeloshian. Show more heavy damage. The dampening fields are reparable."
"Hellfire!"curses Dosh under his breath. " Tell them to get their circuitry back up! Return fire! Full missile barrage, and keep closing. Have the bombers start firing now."
The Ships reorient back towards the Valinon and fire. 310 missiles from the two groups blaze towards the Valinon ships, as the turn for the Shoals.
The Assaultstars fire 300 missiles in the ships from their side angles, and the Gunstars open up with their beam cannons and hvy. beam cannons.
The bombers launch 1 of their two remaining missile flights, sending 400 of their smaller missiles at the ships.
"Sir, it looks like their running for the Shoals. They may be trying to bring in there after them."
"Good! We should have the advantage in there. Full power. Run them down."
Damage to Geminon Group
Geminon Prow dampener damage, Missile launch system damage, Prow ablative shields offline, minor keel damage.
Leo Damage to dorsal weapons, dorsal/port dampeners, small fires.
Acadia Damage to dorsal weapons, dorsal/starboard dampeners.
Aeloshian & Elacrity both have engine fluctuations and dampener damage to both sides. Aeloshian fighter bay inoperable, bomber bay damaged.
Return Fire
300- 15 kiloton AS missiles from Battlestar groups.
300- 15 kilo-ton AS missiles from the Assaultstar/Gunstar groups to the side.
400- high-explosive missiles from the bombers.( not at close range)

40 Beam Cannon Blasts from Assaultstar/Gunstars.
Horation was on the bridge of the Concordia looking at a crewman's station when he saw the Ortagan ships exit hyperspace.
"My God," he mummers. It had been years since he had seen a Solar Navy group away from their planets or installions.
He returns to his command station and sees a comm link signal blinking. He activates the link, and the image of a Draco communications officer fills the screen.
"Admiral," he comes to attention.
"At ease. What is it?"
"Sir, Admiral Marmaduke of the Solar Navy is holding for you."
"Well then, establish the link."
"Yes, Admiral," with that the comm officer's image is replaced by one of an Ortagan Admiral.
"Admiral Marmaduke," Horation says, "what can I do for our friends from the Solar Navy?"

Von Hienlien's mouth is set in a stern line as he looks at the oncoming barrage.
"All ships are to focus only on defense. I want our defenses networked, we don't stand a chance if we divide our defensive fire power. What is the status of the "special" force near the Shoal zone?"
"Chusa Samiai says that his wings are at the ready."
"Tell him to be ready for my signal."
"Yes, Commodore."
The fleet's full firepower is focused only on the oncoming attack. The Mobile DOS system rages, many drones exhaust their missiles and switch to rapid fire lasers. Nearly all the fighters missiles are obliterated, the few that survive damage a few gunships. Of the six hundred missiles from the other ships, 480 are eliminated by the stronger DOS network of the battleships and their escorts. An additional 100 are destroyed by the combined overlapping point defenses of the ships. Still, three gunships are destroyed, a destroyer losses its bridge due to a combination of missile and energy damage. A light cruiser losses several portside weaponry emplacements, and a heavy cruiser suffers dammage to its bow sections.
Von Hienlien listens to the reports, thankful that the core of his fleet has at least escaped damaged.
"Tactical, have all ships fire EMP pulse mines, set for proximity and send them 360 degrees around the fleet. Let us see how the Dominion likes it when their encirclement is turned against them. Tell the Chusa that the Prometheus Home Defense Core Squadrons are to be ready to move in 15 minutes."
"Yes, Commodore."
The fleet launches it attack, the tactic will setup a wall of EMP defense around the cruiser, and their sheer numbers will give the fleet enough time to execute Von Hienlien's gamble.

"Ah, Admiral Horatio. The Solar Navy is very interested in the war games. However, we want a very close perspective in our observations. Would it be possible for my Eagle cruisers to enter the main battlefield zones? Of course at a resonable distance. Also, I would like to accompany your main force with the Charlemagne as well."
Horatio nods, "It would be my pleasure, Admiral. My officers on Draco will send your assault cruisers codes to be identified as neutral observation vessels and the coordinates of the main points of confrontation. The same will be done for the Charlemagne. However, I would request that you keep out of the simulations as much as possible while you stay with my forces. Although for now I do not expect much direct engagement between my heavy group and the Falasmayon main force."

"Excellent. Thank you, Admiral Horatio," Marmaduke nods and cuts the link. Fifteen minutes later the Eagles leave the Charlemagne. Two emerge near the engagement between von Hienlien and the Falasmayon 1st Fleet Division. The third Eagle moves to survey the status of the minefield laid by the smaller High Dominion task force. The Charlemagne powers its drives and moves into position with Horatio's fleet. Staying just outside Draco's defensive perimeter.

Dosh watched his attack resolve, and the mines deploy.
" Each group target those mines blow through and fire on the Valinon ships while their still. Activate emergency electronic shielding!" Dosh ordered.
Interdictors fired at the mines from the 4 ship groups. In addition the 2 Hvy. Battlestars fired several 30 megaton nuclear bombardment missiles which exploded just before reaching the expanding mine field.
The bombers split up to join the two escort groups so they could use the hole they blast to get through.
One half of the sphere is travelling away from the Falasmayon ships and is wasted. In the other half mines begin exploding when the Interdictors near them, the EMP blasts from the exploding mines disable other mines around them, creating holes in the sphere. Additionally the shockwaves from the large nuclear weapons blast a huge hole in the field directly ahead of the Battlestar groups. Most of the mines which aren't destroyed by their own EMP blasts are shredded by FLAK fire from the ships as they power through the holes they've blasted in the field.
The large ships come through the sphere mostly unharmed, but most fighter and bomber squadrons around the edges of the ships do not fare well and are caught in storms of electricity which totally shut their electronic down, and leave them useless for the next few minutes.
The Gunstars have been firing their energy weapons and Accelerator Cannons at the Valinon ships the enitre time, aiming at ships near the periphery of the defense network rather than ships at the center.
Dosh looks at the nearing Valinon warships. "If they like EMP so much then they can have it! Fire an EMP barrage into them!"
The Assaultstars and Battlestars fire a barrage of EMP missiles at the Valino ships. The Gunstars and Battlestars also fire their Ion cannons at the ships. The Gunstars continue to fire their energy weapons and Accelerator Cannons, now joined by Accelerator Cannon fire from the Battlestars. fire is still concentrated at ship around the edges rather than the center.
[u]Damage[u]
All 45 squadrons of deployed fighter craft disabled.
Engine power fluctiations in several Assaultstars and Gunstars.
Loss of energy weapons in several Gunstars.

200 EMP missiles from the Assaultstar groups.
Large amounts of Accelerator and Hvy. Accelerator Cannon fire from the Gunstars and Battlestars.
Ion cannon fire from the Gunstars and Battlestars.
OOC: I think you misunderstood my post. Von Hienlien used mines, you are correct, but he set them so they would work like missiles. He did that so that the area they covered would be larger, because mines generate a larger EMP blast than our missiles. They basically accelerated outward toward your ships, and then went boom.

OOC: Uh... ookkaaayyy? little odd, but sure. :? I've modified my post to reflect what really happened.
"Commodore, missiles are coming through EMP minefield."
"And thus forth the lamb enters the slaughter. Judge," he turns to the ships AI, "did you reposition the drones in time?"
"Yes, Commodore. The network is at 95% optimal effiency. My colleagues and I will eliminate enough of the missiles that the ship point defenses and the gunships can deal with the rest."
"Unusually that the EMPs did not affect the Falasmayon missile guidance systems, their targeting computers must not have been as advanced as I thought. Tactical, signal to the other battleships, tell them to fire through the hole in the EMP field, nuclear barrage. We will hit one target sitting on the other side of the mines."
"Yes, sir."
"And also launch our ECM missiles, it is time for an illusion."
Minutes later, 120 nuclear tipped missiles, using the EMPs as cover for their own signatures fly toward where the battlestars fired. Sensors, however, read over 800 missiles flying toward the battlestars.
"Contact the Chusa. Tell him he is to engage once the Falasmayon ships follow us. Meanwhile, have the other ships deploy another EMP mine field, same launch pattern as before."
"Aye, Commodore."

OOC: Whats with all the big nukes! Eesshh!
IC: "Sir, we have incoming." reports the SitCom officer on the Corsican. Suddenly his face pales, "Sir, I read 800 high-yield nuclear missiles inbound."
"What!" exclaims Dosh, "All stop, Full weapons barrage, hit them with everything signal the same for the other ships!"
Space is lit up like a roman candle, as the full blast of weaponry from the ships fires towards the missiles. 450 Interdictors, 150 high-yield nuclear missiles, hundreds of Accelerator, Hvy. Accelerator, and Ion Cannon rounds all blast at the swarm of missiles. The detonation of the missiles is so great that it is visible from the nearby orbital city with the naked eye.
Yes, there's no way those missiles could have survived that!... What!
No way indeed, though there they were. Nearly as many missiles as before, still flew at his ships.
The fighter now attacked. 11 squadrons of Vypers danced around the cloud firing at the missiles, but to no effect.
Finally, as the hoard of death neared the fleet the 20 escort ships formed a rough half-sphere around the fleet, trying to use their bulk to shield the more valuable Battlestars.
The Falasmayon crew members watched with the apprehension of doomed men as the missiles reached their fleet.
Thats odd. thought Dosh when he realized that the number of explosions didn't nearly match the number of missiles, not by a tenth, a twentieth! What the hell! Then the realization dawned.
"Those slick bastards! those missiles were illusions! Some were real, but nearly all! Lieutenant, How many missiles were recorded destroyed?"
"Just over 105 missiles." Replied the Lieutenant at SitCom.
"Aha! no wonder we had no effect on them. Lieutenant, find the signal that fooled our sensor equipment and filter it out. Don't jam it, just filter it, we dont want to let on that we know their signal doesn't work! and get me damage reports!" ordered Dosh. He had was fed up with this kind if thing, If Heinlein were toying with him he'd make him pay dearly for his fun.
The tallies began to come in from the fleet. Two Assaultstars and 0ne gunstar had taken the brunt of the blasts. although they shielded the other ships, all three were completely destroyed. Other ships had suffered damage to all their direct defenses, and many had taken damage to several weapons systems. Other damage included minor power fluctuations, fires, impact damage and the like.
"Give me a channel to the fleet! Uncoded, let those high and mighty Valinonians hear me if they wish."commanded the Captain.
The channel was opened and Dosh began. "Men and women of the High Fleet. The enemy is LAUGHING at us! Can you not hear it! I can... they sit in their ships smirking at their own power, secure in their technology, age, and numbers. They feel they are invincible, simply because they are of the Star Armada. We will show them wrong. We will show them that the Dominion is not merely a young cousin to be coddled and babied. We will show them that the Dominion is as proud as they, as powerful as they, and as glorius as they! For we have the power of our souls. We have the fire of a great people, and we will show them that it gives us power beyond our spacecraft and guns. We will declare in a voice that rings to the halls of the great Emperor Raould himself! That the Dominion will not fail this day, nor ever! Begin the assault! For with this battle, we blast the first trumpets of a chorus that will herald the coming of a great for the High Dominion and for ourselves! FORWARD!!" Dosh cut the channel, and ordered his command onward.
The High Fleet advanced once more, as the mine field deployed again. The ships concentrated their fire on a 50 by 50 Kilometer box directly ahead of them, pouring all their fire into clearing that square of mines.
As soon as the ships had cleared the ring of mines into close mid-range they fired again, with all the fury of men enraged to glory.

The 30 squadrons of bombers and fighters heading for the Shoals reached the periphery of the asteroid field. They began to disperse by squadrons throughout the field, finding asteroids large enough to hide them and powering down their systems to wait for the approaching Valinon ships.
Von Hienlien listens coldly to the worlds of Dosh.
His second, Captain (SG) Delon stands at his side, "They think that they can become powers so quickly. The people of Falasmayon have no idea what we have paid to reach our current stature. The fields of Proxima, Pholus, Proxima III, and Prometheus have run read with the the blood of the Valinor. We have paid with more souls than can be counted to come to where we are. And they have never seen what abuse of technology is like. I remember the day the Ortagans fusion bombed New Edo, and dropped an orbital port the size of an asteriod to wipe out a single city. I have seen what the Takans can do, and I know what we ourselves are capable of. Get me a channel, I will answer a response to this 'Admiral'."
Von Hienlien takes a deep breath as his signal goes out across all bands, "Warriors of the Star Armada! Over seven hundred years ago, Emperor Penrod the Great established the Second Empire, leading us out of the bloodshed of the Collective Wars. He called the Valinor the people of blood and iron. And that has not changed. Our duty is to the Fatherland and His Majesty, our sworn duty to uphold and defend all this is of the Valinor. The path that has led the Empire to what it is now is paved on the blood and sweat of all those who have served the Emperor. Let us show the men of Falasmayon what happens when we show the strength we possess! We are the people of blood and iron, and none shall forget it!"
Von Hienlien cuts his own comm, "Status of the asteriod lock, tractors?"
"We have eight asteriods, Commodore, ready for movement."
"Send them to positions being fed by Judge, we will block their attack and give them a taste of power."
"Yes, sir."
"Tactical, signal the Chusa tell him the time for the men of the Outer Defense Milita to strike has come. They are to take this battle to the ships of the High Dominion at close quarters!"
"Aye, Commodore!"
"Helm, prepare to reorient the fleet, prepare to set us on a course for the heavy battlestars. Formation 37-ZDelta!"
"Yes, sir!"
The asteriods that the battleships and heavy cruisers have logged their gravitic tractors on since the start of the battle are flung by what seems to be the hands of God. The asteriods arrive in time, barely. The sides opposite the fleet are highlighted by a corona of fire. Yet the newly formed wall does not stop all the fire, and the DOS network cannot reposition fast enough to stop the surviving missiles. The escort ships are hit, the tally of the "destroyed" will not be small as before.

Chusa Samiai sets in the cockpit of a Saishou class interceptor, dubbed the "Neo Zero" by most of the Valinor Star Armada. He is a Commander in the Outer Defense Militia, the organization made up of the veterns of the insurgents against the Dominion government during the Outer Dominin Wars. After the war, many of the insurgents switched allegiance to the Emperor of Valinon. Now they served in the ISSSF, private security agences, and most of all in the ODM. The members of the ODM have sworn an oath to Emperor Rowald, and his father before him, to safeguard the Empire and guard the gates to the Alpha Centauri system.
Even in this "war game" the ODM take their duty seriously. Samiai sees his blinking comm signal. He listens to the signal from the Judicator and activates the comm to his force.
"Warriors of the Saigai Benso Minpei (ODM)! We have been called upon to do what is our duty!"
He activates his fighter's engines streaking toward the Falasmayon force, "Taimeni Okami!" he shouts. For the sake of the Emperor!
"Taimeni Okami!" shouts the ring of the rest of his force.
Three hundred Saishou (Victor) interceptors and two hundred Kyouran (Fury) bombers streak away from their hideaways, their grappling points on the Shoal's asteriods. They fly at full acceleration toward the Falasmayon forces, especially the heavy battlestars. Each "Neo Zero" carries two heavy nuclear bombs, amassing 85 kilotons. Their guidance is poor, and they can only be delivered at close range. The Kyouran bombers following, sending wave after wave of missiles toward the heavy battlestars before exhausting their arms and engaging with their pulse cannons.
The fighters come swarming in. Throwing themselves against the larger and heavier force, with a suicidal bent that can only be known by a people who had to taste victory, or no a defeat that would mean no mercy from harsh masters.

IC: The ODM craft blast out from the Shoals just as the Falasmayon ships arrive. In some cases from the very asteroids the ships had been planning to land on! The 10 squadrons of Vyper Interceptors, immediately broke off and engaged the ODM ships trying to destroy or tie them down. The commander of the interceptor wing contacted the fleet to warn of the attack.

Dosh viewed the Asteroid wall and took a moment to consider his options. The wall blocked the Valinon ships from sensor view, but would also block his own ships from their view. This ppresented a few maneuver possibilities.
Suddenly, the comms channel came to life. "This is Wing Commander Isen to Corsican. Incoming enemy small craft! Repeat incoming enemy small craft! They must have been hiding in the Shoals waiting for us. Vyper squadrons are engaging."
Dosh cursed under his breath. Well that throws the maneuvers out the window! he thought, as his own 10 Vyper squadrons blazed outward to meet the ODM fighters head-on.
"Bring FLAK turrets into position. Fire at will!"
Several ODM squadrons managed to avoid being embroiled in fighter duels with the Vypers and began runs on the Hvy. Battlestars. They faced a veritable gauntlet of fire from FLAK turrets on 11 ships as they sent missiles raking along the Geminon and Corsican.
Explosions rocked the command deck of the Corsican. "Report." ordered Dosh as he lifted himself to his feet.
"We're down to 60% dorsal armour, 42% keel armour. we've lost all the Dorsal ions and taken losses to the dorsal Accelerator Cannons. Also showing, minor hull breaches along the upper deck. Being contained. The Geminon shows similar damage."
"Heinlein will follow that attack up. All ships form defensive pattern A-2 and prepare to target the Valinon ships the moment they crest the asteroid wall." ordered Dosh, as the FLAK turrets fired upon theretreating ODM craft.
The Capital ships formed a sphere, with the two Hvy. Battlestars at the center. The other ships formed the rest of the sphere, with the escorts at the center. All weapons were prepped to targe the Valinon shps the moment their bows cleared the asteroids.
Damage
Geminon- Serious damage to dorsal/keel/starboard/port armour, damage to prow armour, ablative fluctuating severly, minor hull breaches, loss of 10 missile tubes, damage to FLAK turrets and weapons.
Corsican- Serious damage to dorsal/keel/port/starboard armour, engines at 62%, minor hull breaches, loss of 60% of ion cannons, damage to weapons and FLAK turrets.
Return Fire
240+ Vyper Interceptors dueling with the ODM fighters, and (likely) serious damage from FLAK turrets.

Lord-Admiral Severus shook his head at the display of pompousity from both Heinlein and Dosh in their speeches. He wasn't going to let this wargame destroy the friendship of the Empire and the Dominion. He sent a message to Draco using the comms channel established for neutral non-game messages.
Transmission-uncoded-Draco
To Rear-Admiral Richard Horatio:
I hope that the speech you've obviously heard from Captain Dosh, struck you as meaninglessly as it did I. I am fully confident that the captain simplymeant his language to arouse the spirits of patriotism amongst his crew. Even if he does not, I understand the true tradition of the Star Empire. Rest assured that the insinuation of decadence on the part of the Valinor is not shared by the myself of the Falas at large. Dosh will be brought to call for his ill-advised comments. I personally apologize for his statements. I think perhaps the spirit of competition ran away with Captain Dosh momentarily, and that he would not repeat his statement in a more level-headed environment.

Samiai watches as the bombers, in typical ODM fashion being the front rank, take the heaviest casaulties. 120 Kyourans have been destroyed, while dogfighting or by the flak fire. The Neo Zeroes have fared hardly any better, 165 of their number are gone. Most are dogfighting, nearly all have exhausted their nuclear weaponry. Samiai looks around him, his own squadron and another have formed up on him. He knows what he must do.
He opens a comm to Squadron Alpha and Squadron Gamma, "All ships, form up on me! We will do our duty. Maximum acceleration! Focus on the Geminicon!" Samiai prepares to simulate a kamikaze run on the heavy battlestars bridge. His fighters seem unware of the casaulties as he leads them toward the ship. He watches his rangefinder count down at a speed the numbers streak.....5 km, 4 km, 3 km, 2 km, 1 km.
"Taimeni Okami!"
*****************
Von Hienlien watches the action from the sensor probes the ODM fighters seeded on the asteriod.
"Regardless of the Chusa's actions, they will be ready for us. Helm, lay in a course for Konpei Island. Comm, get me a channel to Captain Lodema."
"Yes, Commodore."
Seconds later, the holograph of a woman in a Captain (SG) appears, "Commodore!"
"At ease, Captain Lodema. I want you to take the Duma, the seven remaining light cruisers, six destroyers, and six gunships and prepare and ambush for Dosh. Lure him to Konpei Island, we will dispatch the remainders of the Falasmayon 1st Fleet Division there."
"Yes, sir, Commodore."
Von Hienlien breaks the link, his fleet begins to accelerate and go even deeper into the Shoals. Meanwhile, the sizeable force under Lodema breaks away. First she dispatches the gunships to lay sensor drones on asteriods and points that form the easiest paths to Konpei, and several other places. She then begins to position her ships and lie in wait for Dosh.

Lord-Admiral,
I must also apologize for the reactions of my own second. The easiest way to explain this is to explain Commodore von Hienlien's career. On his first command, he was part of the force that tried to defend Nessus Prime from the Dominion of Outer Centauri's sneak attack that started the Outer Dominion Wars. For his valor, he was promoted, and throughout the rest of the ODW was known as a capable officer. Later in the war though, he was to lose his son when the Dominion mass executed our POWS. Nest his support for Admiral Forrest led to him being reassigned with me to the OSRPF. He was also the commander that was attacked by Takan rebels on their raid earlier this year. So as you can see, the Commodore is easy to rile of a few things, and he has also developed a certain amount of paranoia. Please disregard his own statements as they were made in a fit of passion aroused by Captain Dosh's statements.
Regards,
Rear Admiral Richard Horatio

The Falasmayon crews watched as the three ODM squadrons arced around and came in for a frontal run on the Geminon. Their elevated angle of approach and proximity made them impervious to missile fire. Fire from FLAK turrets blasted at the ships. The Geminon began dropping its nose to make the ODM ships angle on the bridge ports more difficult. The damaged FLAK turrets destroyed over a squadron, but the kamikaze ships continues. There was however, one remaining option.
The 3 graviton beam emplacements began firing, targeting the fighters, while ion cannon blasts joined the FLAK fire. The beams aimed to stop the ships forward motion leaving them vulnerable to easy targeting by the ion cannons which disabled them. The strategy was highly effective three ships made it through.
One fighter took a FLAK shot in the center and was destroyed. Another shell burst just above the fighters cockpit killing the pilot, the ships still plowed into the Geminon missing the bridge viewport by mere feet.
The final fighter pilot took his ship into the view port. The entire front of the command deck blew outward exsposing the bridge tot he vacuum. The command crew had ran to the safety doors when they saw the ship incoming and were unhurt. They moved to the secondary command deck.
"Sir, the Geminon reports bridge loss to kamikaze attack. No personnel harmed, but the main bridge is totally useless, they have moved to the auxiliary command deck." reported the Corsican's FleetCom officer.
"Alright. Inform the Geminon that it will remain in the fight, but at a rear position, designate the Aeloshian and the Elacrity to escort and screen." respond Dosh. The Captain was getting exceedingly angry he was taking major losses without incurring any. He needed a jump on the Valinon. As fate would have it...
"Sir, Commander Isen reports enemy fleet splitting. A sizeable force of smaller capital ships has broken off from the main force and is apparently waiting in ambush. He reports them open for attack." reported Dosh's SitCom officer.
"Excellent." responded Dosh, this might give him his suprise. "Tell Isen to attack when ready. Move the fleet out from behind these asteroids. Advance!"
The Falasmayon battlegroup, moved out. The fighters had dispatched their ODM foes with the loss of 5 squadrons. The remaining 14 fighter squadrons returned to the Battlestars for resupply. The fleet crested the circle of Asteroids bringing them in full view of the Valinon ships, and powered forward. Escorts to the front.
******
The bombers watched the split up of the Valinon fleet from their asteroids. When the gunships broke off to begin attaching sensor drones it was time to attack. The bombers blasted off the asteroids and attacked the cruisers and destroyers at close range. At their range, it was perhaps 10 seconds before the bombers comenced their runs. The bombers raced along the dorsal decks of the ships, targeting, weapons emplacements, and command bridges, and engines. In total 504 high-explosive missiles are launched at nearly point-blank range into the cruisers and destroyers. As soon as their runs are completed the bombers break off and run for the cover of the asteroids, no second runs are attempted as the bombers are out of missiles.
******
"Sir, we have position locks on the Valinon secondary group. Bombers are engaging."
"Excellent, fire a full barrage, as soon as our fighter will be clear of the blasts."
As the bombers complete their runs, the Falasmayon fleet launches a full frontal barrage at the Valinon ships. Then continue to close.
Damage
Geminon Lost main command deck, relegated to secondary fleet position, with two escorts.
Return Fire
500 High-explosive missiles from the Cobra bombers at extremely close range.
400 Anti-ship missiles from the main fleet, fired shortly after bombers missiles.
15 Hvy. Beam Cannons from main fleet
32 High Energy Plasma Cannons from main fleet.
The bombers catch two groups led by light cruisers unawares. The Mobile DOS network is not effective at close range, leaving the ships dependent on their own ship-based point defenses.
The cornered ships, two light cruisers and two destroyers, send out a wave of interception missiles at the oncoming fire. As the wave continues inward, the rapid fire lasers and pulse cannons of the ships come online, trying to track and destroy more of the missiles. Finally as the auto defense continue onward, the last line of defense ECM drones to lure the missiles away stream outward. But they cannot dilute the sheer volume of fire. In the end, 89 missiles survive. The two destroyers are destroyed, one of the light cruisers is taken, and the last damaged.
As those two groups reel, the fire of another concentrates on the other, 3 destroyers and the six gunships. Four of the gunships are destroyed, along with a destroyer, another destroyer is crippled.
Von Hienlien watches as the casaulties mount, he knows that he must save as many of the escorts as possible.
"Helm, 180 degree reorientation now! Navigation, ay in a course that will take us right into the middle of the enemy formation!"
"But, Commodore, the distance, we could lose ships!"
"We will if we don't. Lay in the course! Tactical, all ships are to fire once we complete the jump!"
"Aye, Commodore!"
"Guns, ready all weapons! We will fire everything we have got at them! In the dead center we are bound to hit something!"
The Valinor battleships and heavy cruisers streak upward out of the densest levels of the Shoals. Then they reorient to face the Falas ships, and then they vanish.
Minutes latter, the taxed AI and navigation manage to put the Valinor shops toward the rear of the Falas formation. The heavier warships open fire, trying to divert attention away from the vulnerable escorts.

Continous energy fire from batteries

OOC: I can think of several word for how Dosh probably feels right now but the best is :( .
IC: The appearance of the fleet throws off the attack for a split second.
"Rotate to Keel and put our prows to the new attackers. Gunstars and Assaultstars continue to blast the cruisers." orders Dosh. "Fire a missile barrage as we rotate."
The ships begin their maneuver just as the missiles from the Valinor impact. The Geminon takes most of the attack since its the rear ship.
Despite the effects of FLAK cannons few missiles are destroyed. The fighters of the fleet are deployed, but too late to save the ship.
Missile fire rakes the battered ship across the keel from stern to bow. The engine block shuts down, Massive holes open up in the keel and an entire Hangar pontoon is blasted from the Battlestar. The captain gives the order to abandon ship and life boats begin blasting away from the wreck. The captain however, has a final task to complete he stays for too long and suffers a horrible "death" as the auxiliary command deck is vacummed just as he finishes his task. One Patrolstar is caught in the fusillade and suffers major damage.
As the rest of the fleet turns the Assaultstars and Gunstars continue to fire at the cruisers in the Shoals. 217 missiles join more energy blasts from the Gunstars in a barrage of fire targeted at the remaining viable ships in the group. (should still be several light cruisers & destroyers, I think)
The other ships reorient, when Dosh recieves a message, that makes him grin darkly.
"All ships fire, full barrage. Don't hit the Geminon."
"But, sir." asks his weapons officer. "she's dead in the water, gone.?"
"Indeed, but Captain Kursk, left a little suprise for our friends. Before he was taken out he set the self-destruct mechanism on the ship. With most of the engines out, it will only a comparatively small explosion, but it will do damage considering that that fleet is plowing right toward the Geminon. replied Dosh, "Lets see how this goes. FIRE weapons!"
The Battlestars begin firing their weaponry. Missiles Ion cannons and Accelerators.
(The Geminon is set to explode about the time your fleet reaches it, you can take the hit on the front of your fleet, the rear, or the middle, because the timing isn't exact. It will be the equivalent of a couole of full size nuclear warheads going off. It would have been much more if you hadn't taken out most of the engines. The registers as effectively dead to sensors.

Von Hienlien reorients his fleet, preparing for a full broadside engagement.
"Have the cruisers Gemedet and Verden lock on to that hulk," von Hienlien says. "Let us use their own as a shield."
"Yes, Commodore."
Two of the battleships heavy cruiser escorts move away and lock on to the stricken Geminion, they are moving it into the position of the oncoming missiles when suddenly the massive ship explodes in a fire equivalent to that of solar fire.
Von Hienlien inhales sharply, "Damage to the cruisers, Commodore! The Verden has lost starboard shields! Gemedet reports shields near failure. Point defenses and starboard weaponry are down! Incoming missiles."
"No," von Hienlien breaths. He watches as two heavy cruisers are "destroyed" by the oncoming missiles. But the final death of the Geminion at least serves some purpose, destroying nearly 60 missiles, even as 70 take the heavy cruisers.
"Point defenses, task force wide!" von Hienlien shouts. The battleships extend their own coverage, and the heavy cruisers do the same. Networked together their fire manages to save them from any serve damage. Although two other cruisers take light damage.
"Deploy the Mobile DOS Network wave 2! All ships, open fire, concentrate on that other heavy battlestar!"
"Yes, sir!"

Dosh cheered silently as the Geminon "exploded". "Report". he ordered.
" Two Hvy. Cruisers destroyed. they are deploying DOS systems, and orienting to fire. The cruisers and destroyers in the Shoals are moving upward."
"Fine, oder the escorts to give them a final blast and then orient to face the rest of the ships." ordered Dosh. "Bring the bombers in."
The Gunstars and Assaultstars fire a last barrage at the cruisers and destroyers, then begin turning. Because of their maneuverability, the mostly ondamaged ships wer able to get their prows around in time to recieve the enemy fire.
The missile fire blasts towards the ships. The Battlestars fire off the last of their Interdictors into the swarm. FLAK fire (lessened from the pounding) blasts outward, and the rearmed Vypers fire their cannons into the missiles.
The damage from the missiles would have been minor, if it had been alone, but compounded with the damage from the previous barrages it was significant. A Patrolstar, was wrecked, 2 Battlestars effectively lost their frontal protection, and the Corsican, took even more damage. Frontal armour was leveled, the ablative field went down, and most of the circuitry blew out. The prow graviton beams went out, and 15, missile tubes jammed up.
The command deck shook as the blasts impacted throwing Dosh off his feet.
He cursed as he pulled himself to his feet. " Plot an emergency jump route. and execute! Tell Captain Saren that he has temporary command, he is to fire on the Valinon, long enough to retrieve the bombers and then jump out. Battlestars first, then escorts."
The Corsican pulsed with energy as she jolted forward and jumped out of the battle to a point 700,000 km away.
The Battlestars, and escorts reformed as they began firing. Continous waves of missiles, energy, and Accelerator cannon, and ion cannon fire blasted at the Valinon ships, while the bombers began took combat landings.
Damage
Corsican damaged and out of battle.
2 Battlestars without frontal defenses.
1 Patrolstar destroyed.
Return fire
200 missiles at the cruisers preparing to jump out.
15 Hvy. Beam Cannons & 30 HEP cannons at the same group of ships.
350 missile strong, waves fire at the Battleships and Hvy. Cruisers.
Streams of Accelerator Cannon fire, from hundreds of cannons blast towards the Battleships and hvy. cruisers.
Streams of ion cannon blasts fire at the battleships and cruisers.
Von Hienlien watches as another light cruiser of Lodema's command is "destroyed" by the Falasmayon battlegroup before she can jump away.
He looks at the oncoming missile attack against his own group.
"Navigation, emergency jump now. Activate Verner drives to preset emergency rally point. Guns, see that the Falas are left an approriate surprise when we leave. I think that Skipper missiles should do nicely."
"Yes, Commodore."
The Mobile DOS network begins to engage as the ships of Von Hienlien's main group moves to jump. One heavy cruiser takes damage to its starboard side. The four battleships send out 20 Skipper missiles each, 40 of them are tipped with nuclear warheads, the other 40 are tipped with X-ray pumped warheads. Once they leave their missile ports, the Skippers sensor stealth, disappearing from all screens. They begin their erratic course toward the Falas battlestars, coming out of stealth ever so often to correct their course. Two of the heavy cruisers send out a wave of 180 ECM warheads, to mask the Skippers until it is too late. For the only thing a Skipper fears is a fighter with visual contact.

OOC: Darn you and your plethora of missiles of various kinds! To quote a certain Star Wars character... "(gulp) Ouch time." Fortunately the only thing i've got left effectively, are fighters.
IC: "Sir, we've got incoming, 180 missi... no wait 260... no, now its back to 180. Sir, the sensor system must be fouled up, i'm showing periodic changes in the number of missiles." reported the Sitcom officer on Saren's Battlestar.
"No matter, continue loading bombers, Vypers to intercept missiles, open with FLAK fire."
FLAK bursts of shrapnel explode in the ranks of the oncoming missiles, as the Vypers inward, cannons blazing. fire takes many misisles, but by sheer numbers, many are merely ECM decoys. The fighters account for most of the downed Skippers, though they don't know that they are special missiles. the fighter break off befor impact to allow the FLAK cannons to take over, but the turrets are unable to see the Skippers.
Blasts rock the assembled ships The two damaged Battlestars, are blown apart and peeled back like a cartoon dynamite stick. Some of the damaged escorts are also destroyed. Other ships are damaged.
"Damnit, if its not one suprise its another!" raged, Saren. He recieved the damage reports. "With the Valinor, gone now, all we have left to do is regroup and make for the fleet. continue loading and inform Dosh.
The ships regrouped reloaded the small craft and powered off to join the main fleet, now almost at the edge of the gravity well.

Horatio stands in the CIC of the Concordia he looks at the tactical display on the holotank kept up-to-date by the sensor system the Star Armada has spent untold hundreds of billions on to make sure nothing surprises them easily. He watches as Von Hienlien and the remnants of Dosh's fleet retreats. Then turns his vision toward the main part of the Falasmayon invasion fleet, he watches as they near the hyperlimit.
He turns to the swarm of tactical officers in CIC, "Inform Captain Floyd that I will be returning to the bridge."
"Yes, Admiral."
With that Horatio departs for the dreadnought's bridge.
***************
Horatio studies his screens at his station when Floyd approaches.
"Admiral, Commodore Von Hienlien returns."
"Excellent, tell him to form up with the rest of the fleet. But he is to leave his escort ships with what is left of the Tiger Claw's patrol group."
"Yes, Admiral."
Horatio looks over the tactical display, and allows himself a small smile.
"Order the Intrepid two deploy 4 Longshard squadrons and have them prepare for an in-system jump."
"Yes, Admiral."
"Comm, a task force channel please."
"Aye, Admiral."
Horatio activates the channel after a few moments.
"All ships, this is Rear Admiral Horatio. My tactical officer will be sending the coordinates for an in-system jump. You are to follow the Concordia and be prepared to engage at once. Primary targets are the support ships for the invasion force and the warstars. We want to throw them back so that they will retreat from Alpha Centauri. Complete destruction is not necesarily required unless the situation dictates otherwise later on. I will expect the best from all of you, consider this a test of your readiness and your willingness to defend the Fatherland. But remember this, these are only our opponents in these war games, in fact and anywhere else they are our allies. Godspeed," Horatio closes the link.
"Navigation are we ready?"
"Yes, Admiral."
"Helm, transfer operations to my station."

Main Valinon fleet element moving. Preparing for system jump. Exit orientation indicates fleet position as final target. ETA 10 minutes. End.
Good, thought Severus. I wasn't in the mood for a cat and mouse game across the system any way. We'll end this here!
"All ships," began Severus over a fleetwide channel. "In approximately 10 minutes, we will engage the ships of the Valinor. Activate fleet pattern Marcharius-2. Prepare for combat."

The ships began their deployments, Vypers were armed and deployed. The ships split into two groups with a warstar leading each. The groups moved about 300,000km apart. The MTCB took up position with group 1. The Stormguard Transports, took special assignment. 2 transports loaded their marines onto their gunships, and deployed them to space, the Gunships took position inside the mainholds of the Battlestars, Hvy. Battlestars, and Warstars. Then the Stormguard transports joineda special group and moved to the near edge of the gravity well.
all these preparations were short and efficient as they were well rehearsed, and were copmpleted in some cases less than a minute before the Valinor arrival. Finally, the ships of groups 1 and 2 oriented to face the likely entry vector of the Valinor.

Horatio's fleet exits jumpspace to find the Falas already waiting perfectly positioned.
"No one is that lucky," Horatio rumbles from the confines of the flag bridge, removed from the actualy bridge. "All ships are to open fire. Scramble all fighters. OOC: for purposes of my sanity, i'm not going to rp the glaring faults i found in my navy in this wargame. I will in all other stuff though.
IC: Excellent, thought Severus, as the Valinor appeared right where they should have been.
"Open fire, concentrate on ships of Hvy. Cruiser size and smaller. Initiate divert plan." commanded Severus.
The Stormguard Transports and their escorting ships jumped to hyperspace moments after the Valinon ships arrive. Their exit vector, shows them traveling for Proxima III.
Fire erupts from both groups of ships approximately 20 seconds before the fire from the Valinon ships.
The Gunstars and Assaultstars fire their barrages and immediately break into four groups of 10 ships each, with 5 assaultstars and 5 Gunstars in each group. The groups approach at high speed. Also the two groups of larger ships begin approach. Firing as they close.
The barrage of fire from the Valinor hits the ships as they close. Missiles are blown apart by FLAK, or fall to the chattering cannons of Vypers.
Impacts blast along prows of the ships, cracking armour, and blasting chunks off into space. Energy blasts make the hulls of some ships glow like suns.
"Report." ordered Severus.
"SIr, we've scattered damage across the fleet. The two groups forced them to split their fire lessening it. Most of the damage is superficial to armour and dampener systems. The Apollyon taken more damage than the rest. we've got fluctuations in the WIC cannons, the shouldnt be fired until we can clean them up again." reported his F-status officer.
"Damnit! a minute into this battle and were suffering weapons malfunctions. Get It Fixed. Continue firing."

Scattered damage to most ships, usual stuff, engines, armour,... all mostly light.

The Stormguard group also contains the MTCB which is basically as powerful as a Warstar in its own right. It would be very capable of blasting big nasty holes in Proxima III in addition to the invasion force.
OOC: so you know, I'm going to let you take out quite a few ships pretty quickly. I am just totally unsatisfied with my fleet, I think its highly overpowered and unfair, for instance, my entire fleet could have blasted about 1200 missiles at you, which is too much. Im gonna even this out a bit. I've just got too many big ships.
Commander Pisnik here. I am requesting you, Valinon, to accept a small fleet of ships for the battle. The consist of:
2 small, light, fast, but very weak ships, good for spywork and infiltration
1 Medium sized Battlecruiser with normal firepower.
Please take this token of friendship
OOC: Well if you think that is overpowered, I am sure as hell keeping my mouth shut as to what a real missile count from Horatio would have been........ *throws paper of math figures into trash can*
Horatio looks at the wall of fire coming at his fleet as it begins to form up.
"Isaac, readiness of the DOS network?"
"Sections already active, full efficiency will take another three minutes."
"Use what you have," he turns to one of the many communications officers on the flag bridge. "Have the gunships move to intercept those missiles. Destroyers are to assist when they can, all cruisers are to form up and combine defense patterns. Have our own auto and point defenses along with the battlecruisers and battleships extend their coverage to the cruisers and destroyers. Have the Magellans deploy EMP missile mass interceptors now!"
He brings up one of the fast-links to the bridge, "Continue concentrating on the Apolloyon have the Hermes, Loki, and Callisto do the same. If we can disable or destroy that ship, we can hinder their coordination at the very least."
Horatio looks out at the deadly, silent dance of ships locked in combat.
"Get me a channel to Tiberius," Horatio says solemnly, using the code word for the attacked ships from the secretive Special Liaison Service. "We are going to need something to anull the Falas better position."
"What about the ships that jumped, Admiral?"
"What is their vector, Astro?"
"Proxima III/Nessus Prime, Admiral."
Horatio brings up the information on the content of the Falas ships that jumped, he shakes his head.
"Inform Captain Brund that he may take his heavy cruiser group and move to Proxima III. Send an alert to Proxima III CentOrbCom. Tell them the intruders are war game participants. Let us hope that message gets there before the Falas do, otherwise they will encounter the Proxima III orbital defenses."

Behind Falas ships two exit jump points rip space apart. Two ships emerge, their black and gray coloration making them hard to spot against the black of space. There only markings are the lion crest of House Alderman and a V-like emblem, they do not bare the typical tricolor banner of Armada ships.
Suddenly the ships seem to explode in a flurry of break away elements. Then what the breakaways really are become apparent. Sleek deadly fighters emerge, and begin to accelerate toward the Falas at speed and with manuvers that would turn human pilots to pulp even with the best of Valinor internal compensators and artifical gravity technology. As they come in close, the fighters open with quad-fire linked pulser arrays and a few come in close enough to launch what can only be described as balls of energy.
The two mother ships move on, moving like predators toward the Falas ships.

OOC: Hmm a myrmidon space fleet. Interesting. Even without the psychic hootnanny. Out od curiosity what would the missile count have been, mine would have been about 1400.
IC: "Hit the lighter ships one more time before they can get their defenses up fully. Then well concentrate on the larger vessels." orders Severus.
Roughly the same amount of ships as before fire at the Valinor ships seeking out the same kinds of targets, specifically already damaged Hvy. Cruisers and light cruisers.
"Sir! We've got two ships, unknown class in our rear. They're combat ships, sir, no neutrality codes. They're closing... and... breaking up sir! No wait their deploying Fighters!!??" reports Severus tactical officer.
"Damnit, bring the fighters around and level those ships!" commands Severus.
The rear ships of the formations turn to fire just moments before the impact of the next wave of Valinor weaponry. Massive railgun shells streak into the ships on trails of fire, while Accelerator cannons riddle the ships in shells.
The fighters of the fleet swerved back through the rakns of vessels to intercept the clouds of enemy fighters. The Dominion fighter outnumber the Valinor drones, but not by much, which is more than made up for by the extreme maneuverability of the drones.
The FLAK batteries on the ships busy themselves blasting at incoming missiles. Exploding clouds of silvery shrapnel into the silence of space, to shred and destroy enemy missiles or craft.
Missile explosion wrack the ships, while energy batters against their hulls in raging storms. Alarms sound across the decks of several ships, then fall lsilent as their computer shut down their systems to simulate incapacitation or death.
"Damage, Tactical." orders Severus as he pulls himself from the deck as his ship is wracked by explosions.
"Sir, we lost, several Patrolstars, and a Battlestar, They're definitely concentrating on the Apollyon sir, we've taken all the noticeable damage." reports his Tac officer.
"Oh indeed. We'll make this intersting then, this is merely a wargame. Tell Captain Gryffin that is Apollyon goes he will immediately take command. Full speed ahead! All ships in Apollyon group!"
Group 1 increases speed substantially in its closing. The Gunstars and Assaultstars are now in mid-range.
Losses
3 Patrolstars
1 Battlestar
3 Gunstars
1 Assaultstar
Damage
Apollyon sufferes total WIC failure, loss of most dorsal guns, and major damage to armour and defenses.
Group 1 ships all take further defense damage, and scattered medium weaponry, hull, or sensor damage.
(Coming Soon: Design plans for the High Fleet's new ships of the line, under the Nouvelle Marine Plan.)
The Kommandant watches as the Apollyon changes course.
MAC status?
Fully charged and ready to fire, Kommandant.
Target the Apollyon, have the Archon do the same.
Yes, Kommandant.
Kommandant, drones are taking casaulties.
Deploy one additional reinforcement group, hold the others in reserve.
Yes, Kommandant.
Gunner, ready heavy particle beam turrets, target incoming light warships and cruiser equivalents. Also ready Hornet missiles.
Yes, Kommandant.
MAC?
Kommandant?
Transfer firing control to my station.
The Kommandant of the Templar watches as a new control panel activates and floats down from its storage position. A cold smile touches his lips. Many might underestimate the Myrmidons' ship because of their smaller size, closer to a Valinor battleship, and he is ready to remedy that.
Signal the Archon
Then he fires.
The two ships simulate firing three massive MAC shells in rapid succession. The six shells travel at nearly three times the volacities of an average railgun toward their targets.
Meanwhile the nine massive heavy pulse cannons of the Myrmidon ships open fire, spraying beams of death across space. They are closely followed by smaller batteries opening up. Finally, the ships large wing-mounted missile launchers activate, sending out 400 missiles totally. The Hornets rush toward their targets, then break apart as planned. They spray miniature missilets across the the oncoming Falas force, each its own 15 kiloton missile explosive.
Finally, 300 additional drone fighters explode from their launch chutes, rapidly streaking to engage the Falas fighters.

Rear Admiral Horatio watchs the armaments of the Myrmidon ships open. He takes a sharp breath, and turns back to his tactical display.
Another light cruiser and destroyer, and a heavy cruiser lay crippled, tis drives down, with another heavy cruiser with reactor problems, had been lost to Falas missile fire, but now the wall of battle was formed, and the Mobile DOS network deployed.
"Lay in a course for the second Falas fleet group. Are we on proximal range?"
"Yes, Admiral."
"Good, all ships are to open fire. Cruisers and destroyers are to focus fire on patrolstars and lighter ships, except for assaultstars our fighters will engage those. Battleships and battlecruisers are to engage the battlestars and heavy battlestars. The Concordia will handle the Harbinger."
Horatio watches the tactical display, as the fighters streak toward the assaultstars and the missiles of the fleet begin to depart, followed by energy fire.
