Death in the Borderlands(RP for those who want to join in)

*A television in a window suddenly flickers on showing the colored stripes of an emergency test, the camera pulls back revealing the television in the window of a burnt out storefront. As it pulls back farther it show a the skeletons of dozens of steel buildings still smoldering sending smoke up into the dull grey sky. Somewhere nearby a car radio flickers to life relaying a staticy message. A burnt body lay at the wheel.*

At 3 AM today a first strike was carried out against the QLF(Quippoth Liberation Federation.) Government news channel has relayed the following story.

*The camera pulls off the carnage and toward a young man wearing wearing a hood to ward off the glowing embers spiraling on the wind*
"Today a glorious victory was won against the treacherous QLF, after a series of brutal atrocities commited by the mercenary army the Noble Quippothian government ordered a MWIE strike against their hideaways in the border town of Malvertei, a town well known for fostering traitors and anarchists in its midst. After a gracious official order to lay down their arms and surrender peacibly was met by the slaying several captured civilians including children, the Government authorized a full force strike against the barbaric QLF and their protectors. They were pleased to announce the casualty rate among the QLF was easily over 80% and those who escaped were sumarily hunted down and executed. Loyal Citizen casualties were at a minimum. Indeed, it is good to see when justice is meted out to those who seek to destroy the noble nation of Quippoth and all that it stand for. And now for the weather"

All over Quippoth millions of minds were comforted in the security under the protection of their government yet in the borderlands, the remanents of the QLF stirred in their caves waiting to emerge again.

OOC: In this thread I am primarily looking for people willing to play individual members of the QLF, a far left (for Quippoths political compass that is) mercenary army bent on the modernization and political freedoms offered elsewhere. Expect little equipment, poor food, and little hope as your character as well as no outside support. This is a government broadcast only in Quippoth. The primary objective will be to secure the support of citizens in a second border town, Aldevani, for a new base of operations. This RP will have NO MAGIC, its supposed to have the feel of a third world revolution, not sword and sorcery.

Works for me, just so ya know heres the way I plan on running it.

This isn't going to be a battle filled RP though there may be a couple of them, primarily your force will be running an underground war on the minds of Aldevani, you of course have your choice of tactics, you can try to inspire them, intimidate them, ect. However, their may be player spies in your groups midst and expect that a big attack by the government will be devastating. Thats not to say that if you die in a good RP way you won't come back as someone else. In the end we can have a vote on who they think has won the minds of the citizens. Glad to have ya aboard.

EDIT:Who or what is Aldevani? I don't mind waging a more subversive action as opposed to combat just give me an idea of what is available and I can go from there.

Aldevani is a border town that has 1221 people in it. Its fairly well known for an openmindedness not found elsewhere in Quippoth and appears to be a perfect new staging area for the QLF. Your going to be fighting for the townspeoples alleigence in letting you set up a base in their town.

How about a little background on the QLF, sorry for the questions but this stuff I need to know otherwise I'm gonna be walking about blindfolded.
19-12-2003, 12:37
I know, but I wanted a Norweigan name for this game and Bjorn sounded coolest. :D Anyway, ya, Tom Joad's right. I too need some background or else I won't kknow what to do. Or you could just post the first post of the actual RP and we can get the hang of it. :?

Hey, is it ok if i bring in a character from an external force? He will be one of the elite of my country sent to investigate and help either side as he sees fit. His name would be Ben Straw, probably.

No external forces, he's got no reason to be suspicious, I said before, this is not going to have any "elite" or "special forces" in any shape or form, last time I allowed SF or Elite members they just ran around claiming they could put anything down. Have you ever seen a man capable of leg locking a 540 pound warbeast? I think not, also note I'll be posting on warbeasts soon.

Otherwise, I added what they will be fighting for above.

Ill post the information you need for refrence.

The QLF has been a longstanding left wing militant group. They were well known for various strikes against Quippothian arms labs as well as the assasins of a few well known politicians. Their goal, is a new Quippoth free of the iron fisted grip of their ruler known only as the lord of husks. Normally he is considered a god by normal people though he is infact, no more than a mere mortal and the QLF know this. In recent events the QLF front down was annihilated by pinpoint MWIE (Multiple Warhead Incediary Weapons) more data on them can be found here:
http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=100119&highlight=

Unfortunately for the QLF the government controls nearly all aspects of life making it impossible for them to get their message out without being caught and executed unless they do it face to face. Aldevani is a rich town however, which makes it exempt from the all out annihilation their previous front had.

In this RP you will be fighting for control of this town, it will be a battle not of might, for if it was, you would stand no chance, it will be a battle in the secret for the minds of the people under the ever watchful eyes of the Quippothian leadership.

Some other things you might need to know before you start.
1: Quippoth's people are very distrustfull of the QLF, they know nearly nothing of the outside world and are so inendated with federal propaganda you must realize you will be more likely reported than accepted unless you are secretive and persuasive.
2: Quippoth does not use ANY human soldiers, our entire army is comprised of Warbeasts, engineered organisms suited for a specific job, more information can be found here: http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=100946&highlight=
I suggest you remember these because I will not name them, they will simply be described.
3: You will be ill equiped. No armor, little food, nearly no ammunition, and very very few friends. You must make do with what you can find, expect nothing too formidable.
4: Your character will get the chance to convert folks to their side, if they do manage to do this expect the resources available to them to increase.

And thats all you should need, you can ask for other info if you need it.

I'd like to join too. Sounds interesting.

How about "Eric Steiner", a self imposed exile from a remote island of Valient? He is on the lookout for the next big thrill, and this could be it.

Bjorn woke to the sound of water dripping off the stalagtites. Or stalagmites? Bjorn could never remember. He got up and stubbed his toe on a rock. He cursed under his breath, wincing from the pain. How did it ever end up like this? he thought. He got on his clothes, and went to the main cavern. Everyone looked melancholy and gloom. It was only five days ago when they retreated to the secret meeting place, their current position, and found only themselves. Everyone was sitting around a small table, playing cards and sipping their morning coffee. Then Robert Ambrose looked up.

"Hey Bjorn? We're low on food. You'll need to go into town and get some more," he said.

Normally, most members of the QLF couldn't go out into the streets. But Bjorn wasn't recognized during the attacks, so neither his face nor name was on the most wanted list. This didn't apply to the others. So naturally, Bjorn became the errand boy. Bjorn grumbled at Robert's request, but picked up his pack and his credit cards, I.D.s, etc full of false information. He was known as Joseph Eriksson in the outside world. After gatrhering his things, he promptly set off to the Market square of Aldevani.

He got there twenty minutes later. He went to and fro the various kiosks and stalls, and picked up what food they needed. He also picked up some gas tanks and batteries to run their stove, radio, and small, black-and-white display TV. He was gloom. He decided to grab a quick bite to eat at the cafe, and to sit down and think.

He was munching on his biscotti. How could this have happened? he thought. We calculated our every move, yet still, the lord of husks tracked us down and found us. Bjorn was at a crossroads. He could stay with the QLF with an uncertain fate of either demise or glory, or he could leave, and have to live under this oppresive regime.

Bjorn sighed to himself. He glanced the robotic-police hovering around. He shuddered as he thought about them. They were capable of 17 ways to kill and 50 ways to subdue a criminal. Under Quippothian law, not only were you guilty until proven innocent, they shoot first and ask questions later.

He turned his attention to the bustling crowds of the marketplace. He suddenly opened his eyes. PEOPLE! He saw people. No, not as humans, but as opportunities. He thought of tree. The only thing keeping a tree up is the roots. But if you sever the roots, the tree shall topple, and a new tree shall grow from those very roots. The people are the roots! He quickly finished his biscotti, and set off, with a new spring in his step. He passed a pair of robotic-police beating somebody. He turned away. Aldevani shall be the center of revolution he thought. And the QLF shall be the ones to ignite it!

He dashed into the main cavern, practically threw the goods onto the table, and shouted, "TREE!"

The others were puzzled. Eric said, "What?"

"Quippoth! Tree! People Roots! Quippoth! It's like one big tree!"

"Slow down, Bjorn. What do you mean?" Robert was also confused.

Bjorn explained himself. He told of how the people were the thing keeping Quippoth together, how they are the roots. Bjorn then started to brainstorm.

"What we need to do is first get some people, then I propose we take them where it'll hurt. Tell me: What manages the people?" Bjorn pointed to Eric.

"The government?" Eric inquired.

"Close, but not what I'm looking for." Bjorn pointed to Robert.

"Uhh, Law, maybe?"

"YES! LAW! And who or whay enforces th law directly on the streets?" Bjorn pointed back to Eric.

"The police?"

"RIGHT! I say, we take some people, storm the local police headquarters, and take the police! Without the police enforcing their strict and brutal law, the town shall be free!" Bjorn was obviously excited.

The others looked around nervously. Then Robert spoke up, "Well, it sounds like a plan, anyways...Would anyone else like to add to Bjorn's suggestion?"

OOC: How do ya like it? :D

OOC: I quite enjoyed it, very nice.
By the way Valient, no outside forces. He could be Eric Stiener of the QLF but not from another place.

I'll be playing the Police department then, however at the moment, they are completely unaware. One more person and we can get the ball rolling.
