Confederate News Service: Patoxia Begins Building Nation-Wide Tunnel System

Starbridge, Patoxia – The Confederacy of Patoxia has announced that it has begun to construct a nation-wide tunnel system, starting with city wide systems and later building tunnels connecting cities. The push for a tunnel system came from a coalition of citizens fed-up with the often cold and harsh conditions of the country, which is located on most of Sakhalin Island and part of the Russian mainland.

The island of Sakhalin has long been known for its treacherous climate of cold winds, impenetrable fog, treacherous tides, rugged coastal cliffs, and ice covered shores. The average temperature in January on the northern parts of the island is -23°C (-10°F) and in July the average only rises to about 15°C (59°F).

Senator Joseph Raynor, a major proponent of the plan, told CNS (that) “It's too dang cold out! It's hard to put on so many dag-blasted layers just to visit the local store! Tunnels would be a lot more convenient and would lessen cabin fever in the country.” Environmentalists have also backed the plan as some future plans include underground stores, facilities, and living spaces, lessening urban sprawl.

oocly i love the idea of going underground

the nalanuthu (an agoriphobic religeous sect) did that (to excape persicution) under what was later to become the college town of nebethira (on the world of lananara)

while the passages are clean and well lighted as well as being lined with pollished stainless steel, they are also quite snug and being something of a tourist attraction as well as a source of student housing they came to be affectionately known as the woumbsnugs of nebethera, something of a wonder of that world for their extent and complexity

i also personaly lived in a (southern pacific railroad) company town on donner summit called norden, where all the houses and other structures were connected with show shed, enclosed wooden hallways, so that you could get arround in the winter when 20 foot drifts covered everything. probably my favoritest place i ever lived in my life.

sorry for the ooc interuption but this made me think of those two things

=^^=

OOC:
I got the idea from Ohio State University's south campus tunnels between several dorms and facilities, very handy.

Just don't make to many tunnels that the ground become unstable!
