In an unexpected move today the Executive Committee released a statement announcing a major change in national policy; this move affects every aspect of government and civilian life. Many are concerned by this move as it also calls for evaluation of the role and structure of the armed forces as well as specialist law enforcement units, however the emphasise presented in the statement was one of progression, adjustment and stability for all.
High on the priority list is the lack of modern naval aviation assets which many among the military have been asking to brought to attention for some time, now it seems there calls have been answered.

Also on a more personal note the Executive Committee said it “...will be ushering a new era of Great Power policies, which are designed to reflect our nation for what it is....we can only be great if we move as the great do...” other considerations facing the Executive Committee is the growing rise of environmental pressure groups who have been calling for complete disarmament and the dismantling of all harmful industries, in response to this the Executive Committee granted new powers to law enforcement to stop any attempts by protesters from impeding economic growth, regardless of the methods.
Government expenditure is predicted to rise in the region from 5%-28% in the next two years alone, conservative elements say this new funding could be better spent improving economic stability but this opposition was crushed by strong action from the Executive Committee.

Here is a selected section from the statement issued to all agencies today from the Executive Committee, “For many years now our nation has faced instability both in the streets and in the factories but now for the first time since records began we have total stability for all but there has been a price to pay for this great growth, we have withdrawn from international community almost entirely and policy decisions have often reflected more pressing concerns from internal situations. All of which has left us without a true voice amongst the world and from this day forth we will be ushering a new era of Great Power policies, which are designed to reflect our nation for what it is, we have travelled a great distance in the search for change but now we are so close to it all, yet let us not forget that we can only be great if we move as the great do.
We have already begun fostering relations with selected governments on certain key areas and most recently of all we achieved compromise with The Enlightened Psychotopia of Yn over the loss of one of there missiles during a test launch, such situations will never just happen once but repeatedly and that is why we must meet them head on as the people we truly are”

OOC:In future I'll be using this topic to continually update the world on political events within the ISTJ.

Further resistance was engenderd by the announcement that the Foreign Commissary had been engaged in talks to begin a joint-development program of a military nature, the resistance came from environmentalists and also from a minority element calling themselves "liberals", the Executive Committee has today for the first time acknowleged the existense of a specialist unit, known only as SO19, to the public this revelation is in the wake of a two-day siege in the centeral workers housing area involving this secretive SO19 and dangerous subversive elements belived to be related to the group calling themselves "liberals".

The establishment of a department within the Foreign Commissary to enable greater ease for foreign industries to operate within the ISTJ was created and it is also hoped that the department will enable greater ease for home-based industries operating abroad.

The Executive Committee announced today that plans have been halted to begin construction of a space centre, the proposed centre was to of been the first of three locations intended to facilitate launching, recovery and control of space craft both manned and un-manned in a military but also civilian purpose.
The result of this programs cancelation is that cost-effective alternatives are being pushed forward to meet satellite demand, the most promising of all of the contenders is the fitting of a satellite dish to the under side of a converted passenger jet, the jet would loiter over a set area and provide communications coverage such as cell phones, television, radio and private microwave transmissions. Able to service an area of 10,000 sq km at any one time currently, extra funding is being provided in the hope that this range can be extended and smaller versions of the dish be developed for alternative use.

In other news First Sea Lord Braybrook EC RS, announced the beginning of "..a new step forward in our submersible capability, this new class will provide the utmost proof of our continuing ability to acheive great steps..." various analysts have put forward theories ranging from a new class of diesel-electric submarines to support the EM-220 Tigershark class, the first twelve of what has become twenty-four vessels was completed by United Elias who has become the only foreign supplier of military hardware to the ISDF. Other romours speculate on nuclear powered submarines but others discount this as there has been no serious talk of using nuclear power or of creating nuclear weapons, which would obviously be of interest should the Executive Committee have begun nuclear energy plans.

The subversive group which has been labeled "The Liberal Freedom Wing" was today struck a mortal blow as the largest strike associated with SO19 was carried out mere hours ago, over one-hundered combatants were involved in raiding the former school. According to local police statements they were tipped off by an informant who is belived to of said that "..the liberals are gonna do something big and you gotta stop them...they got lots of hardware and it don't look like its the first time any of them have ever held a gun".
Within an hour of this tip-off the area had been sealed by local police and SO12 had begun negotiations to prevent bloodshed, after one negotiater was shot dead in a withering hale of automatic gun fire the SO12 commander ordered SO19 to seize control of the premises and detain any suspects that surrendered. At this moment in time we don't know about the scale of casulties or where survivors if any are being held, we do know that several helicopters arrived to withdraw the SO19 teams but as of yet we still do not know where those helicopters went.

Triumphant news today was released from senior officials regardin specualtion on the submersible capabilities of the ISDF, commentators had speculated on an AIP diesel-electric submarine whilst a minority had repeated that an alternative method was to be used, after several days silence on that matter the minority group withdrew its claims and said that "...we have been mistaken in our claims and wish that this matter not be brought up again.."

The spokesmen revealed that the construction of the latest in submersible technology was to be built at the nationally known Serraillier Inc. this company has built much of the ISDF naval complement, the new class of boat will be known as the Astute and the first of the line will be so-titled. Each vessels is predicted to displace 7,800 tonnes and with a ength of 97 metres will incorporate six weapons tubes, the capability to launch cruise missiles is assured. With a crew of just over a hundered some have expressed concern but this was brushed aside at the first release of information to the public and an earlier brief shown to cleared officials.
What isn't being made public is the ships propulsion system and at the mention of the subject, several incidents prevented an answer being revealed.

OOC:This is the only time there will be a hint of a nuclear program before its existense is revealed, so take this as notice that I've got a nuclear program in the late stages of completion.

The launch, successful testing and initial operational deployment of the first of twenty submarines was begun yesterday at a closed ceremony. Attending the beginning of IS Astute six-week deployment were senior members of the Executive Committee and senior naval officers.

It has now been confirmed that IS Astute is indeed powered by a preassurised water-cooled nuclear reactor, this change in stance is seen by few observers as a rash move or pointless but rather as a logical step in ensuring first tactical ,with the introduction of diesel submarines, and now a strategic step with the introduction of nuclear powered submarines.
What has not been revealed in any detail is the capabilities of this vessel or of the possibility of more classes of nuclear powered submarines or of the development of nuclear weapons.

This entrance in to the nuclear world has opened up many possibilities to the military but also to the civilian market, recently the construction of several government-owned nuclear power plants was speeded up to provide "...an ample emergency power reserve for the nation..." commented one official.
The possibility of nuclear-powered surface vessels is not an unlikely option as this would provide greater strategic presence on the global scene, however several sources stated "...construction of nuclear powered surface vessels for the sole purpose of increasing political influence in world events would be a fool hardy route to travel down as a submarine can provide just as much influence as well as having the psychological impact of surprise..."

No official spokes person could be reached at this time to elaborate further on the ISTJ plans for nuclear-powered surface and submercible vessels but we did recieve a press release stating "All measures will be taken to ensure the reasonable security of the ISTJ and if this happens to require nuclear-powered vessels then so be it but we will not embark on such an action unless it is required"
