What You Need To Know

Roania has announced it is no longer dependent on the Arab world for any of its energy. The last oil powerplant has been shut down, to be replaced by a final nuclear powerplant. The entirety of New Rohan is now powered by either nuclear power, or hydroelectricity in the mountain areas. Said Minister for Energy David Jamison, "We are pleased to announce that The Principality is now completely self-sufficient in terms of energy."

An estimated 250 million dollars was spent every 6 months on purchasing oil from the Arabs. Before the government enforced switch from oil powered cars to alternative energy such as hydrogen fuel cells, the total was somewhere like 7000 million dollars a year. Under the change, anyone with an oil powered car was given an HFC powered car for free, provided by the government and made in government sponsored plants.

Surprisingly, the cars are actually quite good, despite the fact, or perhaps because, they were made by Suboids. Also, anyone who still had an oil car within 16 months of the change was executed.

Minister for Foriegn Affairs Duke Leopold Darquis had this to say about the possibility that Roanian relations with the oil producing nations would become more condescending, "Ha! Absolutely not! We have the utmost respect for those nations, we just consider their culture to be a corrupt parody of what it once was."

A prominent Moslem businessman, Ibn Al-Shafir, said, "Yes, I was worried when the change began. But our lives have actually improved under the new status quo. Long live the Prince! May Allah shine his heavenly light, and guide him to even wiser decisions."

Prince Alexander was reportedly apocalyptic at the suggestion that Allah do anything to him, until Grand Vizier Alysanndra Ellestrea explained that Allah was another name for Jehovah.

Good to here that the requirment for oil has dropped in the World. Imperial Forces itself uses Geothermal and Hydroelectic plants *we do have nuclear plants, but they are just for government and backup uses*.

Glad to hear that someone else has taken a step against weaning our civilisation away from those degenerate weaklings. They now need us more then they need them.

Roanian aid to Arab nations, such as it is, has been completely slashed until such time as they all go through the motions of becoming democratic.

And no, I'm not saying this because Alexander refused to say it himself, I'm saying this because I feel it's for the best.

Al Khali state television news-

News of a reduction in Roanian oil imports equivalent to near two weeks full production in Al Khali terms has worried investors previously celebrating an apparent boulstering of the economy.

Captioned shot of govt. spokesman speaking earlier in the day-
"The total reduction could potentially account for five percent of Al Khali oil exports, which would be a substantial loss.. however the figure will certainly be much less than this.. so we don't want any panic!"

The up-beat attitude of officials seems to be reflected across the board. One government spokesman, Abu Talas, was heard to jovially ask, "Who is Duke Leopold Darquis to assert that a tone of condescension shall not be a part of Arab-Roanian relations?"

In other news, unpopular moves towards hydrogen powered automobile development in Al Khali were delt a blow today with the tragic death of the unofficial programme's strongest advocate Mr.Hafiz Mizzu. Ironically, Mr.Mizzu's life ended when his unlicenced and evidently unsafe alternative-powered car was apparently forced off..

Al Khali state television news-

Al Khali businessmen and governmental officials, worried for several seconds, calmed considerably upon realising that Roania's total annual oil imports equated to less than two days' production even in the tiny democratic republic.

One government spokesman, Abu Talas, was heard to jovially ask, "Who is Duke Leopold Darquis to assert that a tone of condescension shall not be a part of Arab-Roanian relations?"

OOC: Shoot... changing typos. I was in a rush to get this done because the server was slowing down...

still, this is only stage one. I actually had the numbers figured out... US oil times 4, I believe it was...

OOC:Well that's much worse. Three hundred odd times worse, I believe. *Looks thoughtfull and desperately tries to come up with a good way of invalidating alternative fuels*
Al Khali presently looks to export at least 500 million bbl per annum. The US consumes nearly 20 million bbl per day, last I heard. We could probably have supplied Roania with about a week worth of oil.. while you were still using it.
Nation States is so damn big.. I need more oil!
*Prospects*

OOC: It will become clear. It's much worse, but Roania could swallow the US and Western Europe whole, remember. If I wanted to make it even more painful, I'd say that all of my oil came from Al Khals.

OOC: Heh.. man, that would mean we'd have to build a stock-pile of oil for about five years in advance in order to supply you for one year.
I think Roania would have been getting through forty or fifty billion dollars a year worth of oil in total prior to the change. We produce between nine and twelve billion dollars worth at the moment- though of course I want to step that up if and when we can afford it.

..if there are any customers left.
