OOC: Some of you like me, some of you hate me. Whichever, learn about me. More will come later.

Emperors of Valinon and House Alderman

An Emperor of House Alderman has always ruled over Valinon since the First Empire. In exile they led the Imperial Resistance Alliance during the years of war when Valinon was seized by the People’s Collective Party and plunged into the madness of the People’s Republic of Valinon. But after Penrod Alderman led the final battles that defeated the PRV, he was crowned Emperor Penrod Alderman I and the Empire was restored. This marked the beginning of the Second Empire, the age that Valinon still is in. The Emperors since Penrod the Great have been a varied group from the autocratically Dozles to the peace oriented Emperor Konrad I, and from the madness of Emperor Adolf I to practical and beloved hand of Emperor Gustav.
The United Star Empire is still watched over by an Emperor of House Alderman, Emperor Rowald Alderman I, recently crowned with the death of his father, Emperor Gustav Alderman I. A long future lies ahead of the Empire and the people of Valinon, and the governance of House Alderman promises to leads them to further greatness.
Emperor Rowald still wields considerable political power, through the collective Imperial Ministries led by the Minister of Imperial Affairs (currently Duke Leo Sterling) along with those powers that remain fully at the Emperor’s command. Finally, Emperor Rowald still has to agencies under his direct command. First the Imperial Sovereign Protectors, the best troops of the Empire given the duty of absolute service to the Emperor and to defend him, and secondly the mysterious department known as His Majesty’s Special Liaison Service, a reclusive organization believed to be the shadow hand of House Alderman, operating at a level that makes even the dreaded Ministry of External State Security shiver.

Powers of the Emperor:
1.) Appoints Minister of Imperial Affairs (typically leader of majority in Congress of Lords, but not always)
2.) Can actively deploy military for 6 months without declaration of war
3.) May dismiss the Imperial Diet for 3 months
4.) Supreme Consul of Justice for the Empire (Imperial Pardon, etc.)
5.) Can withhold signature of a bill unless a it is approved by three-fourths vote in Congress of Lords, or one half vote in Congress of Lords plus three-fourths vote in Congress of the Commons
6.) Direct control of the Imperial Sovereign Protectors and His Majesty’s Special Liaison Service
7.) Must approve of all treaties, alliances, pacts, etc.
8.) Can reappoint ambassadors, colonial magistrates, baron-administrators, justices, and officers of the Imperial High Command and armed force branches.
9.) Directly governs New Köln
10.) May declare an Internal State of Emergency that cannot be reviewed for one year

Imperial Diet

The Imperial Diet is made up of two houses, first the Congress of Lords made up of the hereditary and temporary members of the Empire’s nobility. The Congress of Lords controls the Imperial Accountus, and therefore the purse strings of the Empire. It also controls the legislative duties of the Empire, along with several other powers. Currently the coalition government of the Crown Loyalists and United Centrists, led by Duke Leo Sterling, controls the Congress of Lords. Although there are several other parties, including the strong opposition led by Baron Andrei Mironenko and the United Guilds party.
The Congress of the Commons is a body that wields very limited powers. Its primary duties is to run the provincial administration of the Empire across the Five Worlds, with its other purpose being to regulate commerce and industrial laws. The other powers of the Commons are sparse to say the best. Especially with the pro-Alderman Dominion Party in control, which tends to back whatever words come from the Imperial Palace. First Minister Davion Foust, a Senator from Valprieza, currently leads the Dominion Party.

The history of the United Star Empire of Valinon is long and well remembered. It includes the humble beginnings as a colony of the remaining survivors from the destroyer Kingdom of Pholus, to the rise of the First Empire, the fall of the First Empire and the Collective Wars between the People’s Republic of Valinon and those who resisted it, to the establishment of the Second Empire, and to the present day United Star Empire. This is a timeline of the major events in the history of Valinon, a treasure held most dear across the Five Worlds. All dates are measured on the New Imperial Calendaer (NIC) basis. The NIC is based on the Proxima Centauri time divisions, the capital and home world of the Empire has a day of 22 Earth hours long and a year that is 350 Earth days long. The calendar starts when the first colony ships from the Kingdom of Pholus arrive on Proxima Centauri.

1 NIC: Colony ships from the Kingdom of Pholus land on Proxima. On Earth the Kingdom of Pholus finally collapses. The two other desperate colonial expeditions to Beta Aquilae and Betelguese never reach their destination and are lost in transit. On Proxima, major settlements form where the cities of New Köln, Augustgrad, Ironholm, Valpreiza, and Durandell stand today.

4 NIC: Viktor Alderman is appointed Emperor by the First Assembly of Lords. This represents the founding of the First Empire and the true beginning of the Empire of Valinon. The First Empire replaces the loosely formed “colonial” government of the Kingdom of Pholus known as the Planetary Federation. Valinon becomes a sovereign nation.

37 NIC: Valinon establishes contact with the Grand Duchy of New Ortaga, another colony to Proxima that has formed its own nation. This marks the beginning of the long-standing Valinon/Ortagan alliance.

108 NIC: Valinon establishes its first colony on the second world in the Alpha Centauri system and names the world Pholus in honor of their parent nation. On Proxima the People’s Collective Party (PCP) is formed and begins to push for a communist collective state to end the corruption within imperial government. Over the years the PCP becomes increasingly militant, calling for an outright overthrow of the imperial government.

182 NIC: The PCP starts what will become known as the Collective Revolution. The First Empire collapses in its official form after six months of fighting when traitors from the Imperial Army seize New Köln. Emperor Konnor Alderman flees to the Valpreiza province with the bulk of loyalist forces. Other centers of loyalist resistance take shape in the provinces of Syberia, Palmas, Brest, and Turan. Two weeks after the fall of New Köln, the Imperial Resistance Alliance (IRA) is formed. On Pholus, colonial forces crush the small PCP rebellion and Pholus renounces all ties with the PCP. Meanwhile in New Köln, Gerard Michlien is named Chairman of the People’s Republic of Valinon (PRV). This will mark the beginning of the Collective Wars with IRA forces in Valprieza and loyalist Pholus serving as the prime centers of resistance against the PRV.

203 NIC: Despite the best efforts of the IRA command, Palmas and Brest fall to the PRV. The Collective Wars enter a more intense phase as the IRA tries to defeat the conscripted hordes of the People’s Collective Army (PCA). Chairman Michlien orders his commanders to crush the remaining centers of resistance on Proxima and Pholus in three years time. Meanwhile, Rambert Alderman forms the Sardaukar, an elite trained group from the loyalist portions of the Imperial Army. Eventually, the Sardaukar will replace the Imperial Army completely and become the main branch of the land forces of the Valinon military.

208 NIC: The PRV launches a massive campaign due to pressure from Chairman Michlien. The attack is centered on Valprieza, Syberia, and Turan on Proxima and also sends 87% of the PRV’s captured space fleet to blockade Pholus. After eight months of intense fighting, Sardaukar forces in Valprieza throw the PCA back and go on a brief offensive. Two weeks later, loyalist forces in Syberia repulse the PCA assault on their province. In the Pholus planetary system, the 55 ship armada assembled by the PRV meets the combined forces of the smaller but better trained colonial defense force and the Ortagan Solar Navy. After two days of engagement around Pholus, the PRV fleet is broken. Of the force sent against Pholus, only one-third returns to Proxima and over half of those numbers are heavily damaged. The PRV army sent against Turan is defeated and almost completely destroyed when loyalist forces outmaneuver them. The PRV moves into a defensive setting to defend itself from advancing IRA and Pholus forces.

211 NIC: Michlien is assassinated in a coup spearheaded by James Ridlay. Ridlay names himself Chairman of the PRV and fights on fronts both internal and external. In the confusion during the coup the PRV loses Palmas, Brest, Amazonia, and Lyon to the Sardaukar forces. The PRV terrestrial navy is defeated at see by their Ortagan counterparts and Ridlay’s hope to knock New Ortaga out of the war before they can rally to support the IRA cause fells. As IRA and Ortagan forces advance toward New Köln, Ridlay moves the capital of the PRV to Ironholm, the one of the few provinces whose populace has PCP members in majority.

261 NIC: New Köln falls to the IRA and the PRV is pushed back into Ironhol, Nicosia, Golitha, Cyrene, and Arhus. Late in the year a combined IRA/Ortagan offensive pushes the PRV out of Cyrene.

265 NIC: Chairman Ridlay is killed in an IRA aero raid on Ironholm. After his death, the PRV breaks down into several factions that fight both each other and the steadily advancing IRA forces. Golitha is lost to the IRA when the PRV armies in that province nearly annihilate each other in one of the early bloodbaths of the PRV power-struggle.

269 NIC: Arhus revolts against PRV rule and the IRA moves to support the popular rebellion, under a week later, the PCA forces in Arhus falls back to the last PRV held territory of Ironholm. Secretary-General Vanderstein, of the Secretariat of State Security, seizes control of the PRV after the other factions are eliminated. Sardaukar and IRA forces under the command of Penrod Alderman move against Ironholm with the support of the Ortagan force sent to Valinon. After a two-month siege, Ironholm falls, Chairman Vanderstein is killed when the Collective Assembly Hall is destroyed. Three days later, Lieutenant General Comrade Letten, ranking officer of the PRA, surrenders to Penrod Alderman and General Devon of New Ortaga at New Köln. The PRV officially ceases to exist.

270 NIC: Penrod Alderman is crowned Emperor Penrod Alderman I and the age of the Second Empire officially begins. Penrod the Great rules over a reunited Valinon, including the still seething Ironholm and prospering Pholus. A new government is formed with a bicameral Imperial Diet consisting of the Congress of Lords and the Congress of the Commons. The five Imperial Ministries and the Imperial High Command is formed. The province of Ironholm is placed under the authority of a military government. The Empire of Valinon continues to rebuild from the long devastation of the Collective Wars.

349 NIC: Penrod the Great dies after nearly 80 years on the throne. His son is crowned Emperor Dozle Alderman I. Ironholm becomes increasingly hardier to control as guerilla elements of the old PRV and a populace tired of the tyrannical reign of the Sardaukar officers enters a state of near revolution. Emperor Dozle orders harsher restrictions on Ironholm and has all proven anti-government leaders imprisoned and tried, most are executed for treason the others are sentenced to several life prison terms.

360 NIC: While Emperor Dozle is presiding of a special session of the Congress of the Commons, on of the Senators from Ironholm assassinates him. Hours later, Ironholm forces armed with smuggled weaponry from old PRV caches and smuggled from sympathetic communist nations, destroy the unprepared Sardaukar garrisons with use of coordinated explosive attacks. Ironholm secedes from the Empire and forms the People’s Collective Republic of Greater Ironholm (PCRGI). Crown Prince Dozle Alderman is hastily crowned Emperor Dozle Alderman II and the Empire declares war on the PCRGI. The First Ironholm War begins.

380 NIC: As the tide of the war turns against the PCRGI, Chairman of the People’s Collective Committee for Reform Jerome Lysanders orders a nuclear strike against the tiny island of Victoria. In the attack 235,347 citizens of the Empire are killed. The Imperial High Command is decapitated with the death of Supreme Commander Lord Richard Craddock. The armies of the PCRGI start a desperate offensive that marches toward the Valinon heartland.

386 NIC: Facing opposition in the Congress of Lords and a populace horrified by the war’s attrition tactics, Emperor Dozle II sues the PCRGI for an armistice agreement. A desperate Chairman Lysanders immediately accepts. After three months of negotiation a treaty is ratified by both sides that does little but end the war and reassert the independence of the PCRGI. Emperor Dozle II continues to push for a renewed campaign against the PCRGI, which has incarcerated former imperial citizens still loyal to the Empire in labor camps.

401 NIC: Emperor Dozle II maneuvers the Congress of Lords into declaring war on the PCRGI, citing the continuing abuse and unwillingness to release loyal imperial citizens. Emperor Dozle II personally takes command of Sardaukar forces moving against the PCRGI. The Second Ironholm War begins official with the battle at Raridaris.

408 NIC: PCRGI seizes control of lunar cities on Proxima’s second satellite, Eurytion. The Star Armada traps the PCRGI Star Navy in the dry docks and stations around Eurytion. Blockade force is formed to keep Eurytion under quarantine.

413 NIC: The PCRGI Star Navy breaks out of the blockade created around Eurytion, and escape the force dispatched by the Star Armada. On Proxima Emperor Dozle II leads what he believes to be a surprise campaign to seize a position close to the city of Ironholm. Instead the surprise is really a carefully crafted illusion. Dozle, and a large portion of the main army of Sardaukar sent against Ironholm are surrounded and killed. Imperial forces retreat to Raridaris. Prince Günter is crowned Emperor Günter Alderman I.

417 NIC: Emperor Günter turns control of the war back over to the Imperial High Command. Initially successes and gains made on Proxima are overshadowed when the PCRGI Star Navy attacks Pholus. The capital city of New Kiel is devastated before the Star Armada arrives to drive off the PCRGI attackers. However, the PCRGI does retain control of the city of Archangel despite repeated attacks to liberate it.

425 NIC: The PCRGI Star Navy is found hiding in the space between Proxima and Alpha Centauri A. The Star Armada destroys the majority of the PCRGI space fleet and the rest retreats back to Eurytion. The PCRGI space campaign is largely limited to blockade running and hit and run attacks against commerce between Pholus and Proxima. On Proxima, the PCRGI starts an offensive geared and capturing the Golitha province. The attack is Chairman Lysander’s last order; he will die before it is initiated.
427 NIC: Langdon Rosewater becomes Chairman of the PCRGI, the attack on Golitha begins under his direction. The attack is largely a spectacular failure. Manpower, resources, and dwindling time is wasted on the failed attack. The front stalls and PCRGI and Sardaukar forces dig in for the war of attrition. Undersupplied and surrounded by enemies, Archangel is liberated by the Empire. Chairman Rosewater opens negotiations with the Empire of Valinon.

430 NIC: Chairman Rosewater and Emperor Günter meet in Verdun, capital of the Grand Duchy of New Ortaga. A treaty is worked out between the Empire of Valinon and the PCRGI. Rosewater relinquishes almost all of the territory captured on Eurytion, and returns the occupied portions of Golitha and Arhus back to the Empire. In return, the Empire allows PCRGI to retain control of space stations in orbit and to have free navigation of Alpha Centauri space. The Second Ironholm War ends, beginning an age of relative peace between the Empire and its step-child of Ironholm.

473 NIC: The Empire of Valinon mounts colonial expeditions to Proxima Centauri III and its complex system of moons. Major settlements include Brisbane on Proxima III itself and Antioch on the largest moon Nessus Prime.

478 NIC: The Empire of Valinon establishes contact with the Dominion of Outer Centauri, a reclusive, isolationist nation that is a regressed form of feudal Japan. The Dominion controls approximately half of Proxima III and has orbital stations and city around Prometheus Centauri, the fifth, and last planet, of Alpha Centauri that is a jovian type larger than Jupiter in the Sol System. Chairman Rosewater is assassinated and Anastasius Focht becomes Chairman of the PCRGI.

483 NIC: Emperor Günter dies and his son, Crown Prince Karl is crowned Emperor Karl Alderman I. Emperor Karl renews peace treaty with the PCRGI. The first Valinon embassy to the Dominion of Outer Centauri is established.

506 NIC: Chairman Focht declares war on the Empire of Valinon. In a surprise attack massive aero raids hit all Golitha, Arhus, Valprieza, Brest, and Lyon. Emperor Karl deploys the full military of the Empire against the PCRGI. The war becomes a long stalemate, with each side making only minor gains and taking only minor loses.

515 NIC: Chairman Focht attacks the Grand Duchy of New Ortaga. The Ortagans send forces to assist their Valinon allies. The Third Ironholm War becomes the a war that erupts across Proxima, Pholus, and Proxima III. However, with larger resources and better forces, the Valinon/Ortagan coalition slowly pushes the PCRGI farther and farther back.

525 NIC: PCRGI flees from Proxima after it reaches near defeat from the Valinon/Ortagan coalition. The Third Ironholm War ends and Proxima enters a new age of peace that has not been known since the early days of the First Empire.

Timeline accelerates until 737 NIC. During this time the Emperors not mentioned in depth are, excluding Emperor Karl I, are Konrad I, Wilhelm I, Karl II, and Viktor I.

737 NIC: Emperor Viktor Alderman I dies, his son Crown Prince Adolf Alderman I takes the throne. During his days as Prince many wondered about Adolf’s mental condition, but his father insulated him and the true extent of his insanity was greatly underestimated. Once crowned, it becomes obvious that Emperor Adolf is truly mad. The Imperial Court and Imperial Diet live in almost constant fear as the Emperor becomes increasingly erratic. Using the Imperial Sovereign Protectors and the Ministry of External State Security’s elite Nightwatch force to enforce his will. Resistant appears almost immediately to his reign, and many seek to place his brother Prince Frederick on the throne.

744 NIC: In the only internal coup since the assassination of Emperor Dozle I, Emperor Adolf is assassinated by a conspiracy of almost all the members of the Congress of Lords, many in the Imperial High Command, and all the Ministries except the ESS. Those that supported Adolf are imprisoned or disappear. Prince Frederick is crowned Emperor Frederick Alderman I. However, the damage to foreign affairs by Adolf had already been down. His increasingly belligerent stance made the always untrusting and reclusive Dominion of Outer Centauri almost openly hostile to the Empire of Valinon. Only with considerable trials does Emperor Frederick smooth over relations enough to prevent war with the hermit feudal Kingdom.

806 NIC: Emperor Frederick dies and his son Prince Fremont Alderman is crowned Emperor Fremont Alderman I. Relations with the Dominion of Outer Centauri remain tense. In revolutionary news in science, the life pro-long treatments are released, doubling the life expectancy of the citizens of the Empire. Crown Prince Gustav Alderman becomes one of the first recipients of this new treatment.

808-811 NIC: Empire of Valinon enters negotiations with several Earth-born nations. In the end, the Empire of Valinon extracts rights for 12 treaty ports scattered across the Earth for their use in return for money and several other concessions.

883 NIC: Emperor Fremont dies, leaving the Empire of Valinon in an almost tangible hostility with the Dominion of Outer Centauri. The claims to Proxima Centauri III and its moons are increasingly disputed, and military buildup reaches its zenith on both sides. Prince Gustav Alderman is crowned Emperor Gustav Alderman I.

896 NIC: With a populace nearing revolt with its strict feudal system, and wanting to reassert its authority over the outer regions of the Alpha Centauri system, the Dominion of Outer Centauri declares war against the Empire of Valinon. Originally called the Great Outer War, this will become only the first installment of the Outer Dominion Wars. The initially months of contact belong to the Dominion, there victories driving the Empire across much of its territory on Proxima III, and threatening the vital mining centers on Nessus Prime. But Emperor Gustav quickly rallies the forces of the Empire and the Star Armada of Valinon, under the command of First Lord of the Admiralty Admiral of the Red Quentin Forrest moves to engage the Dominion’s own formidably space fleet in the outer Centauri system.

899 NIC: Dominion of Outer Centauri has shown that its initial attack was a last ditch effort to retain Proxima III holdings. Its populace is in full revolt, and a Sardaukar army lead by Field Marshal von Richter pushes the combined forces of the Seven Great Clans under Lord Hasaki are pushed to their limits, and they launch an all out land attack from Kiego. It fails, the Dominion armies on Proxima III are broken and slowly begin to fall back.

905 NIC: Von Richter seizes Ootsan Uchi, capital of the Dominion. But they learn that the Seven Great Daimyos and Lord Hasaki have escaped to Prometheus Centauri. With the majority of their territories on Proxima III gone, the Dominion sues for peace.

907 NIC: First segment of Outer Dominion Wars end in victory for Valinon. The Port Rosario Peace Accords are presided over by the Grand Duchy of New Ortaga. In the end Valinon retains all of Proxima III, but the Dominion retains the orbital cities of Prometheus. However, several of the Daimyos of the Seven Clans continues to push for war, despite internal rebellion and fracturing between the Clans.

918 NIC: After enduring privateer raids and continued hostility from the Dominion, Valinon declares war on the Dominion once again. However, the war is more bitter than ever, the Dominion’s use of kamikaze attacks and en masse fleet strikes take a heavy toll on the Star Armada and the Sardaukar trying to seize the orbital cities.

922 NIC: The Dominion of Outer Centauri thrown into disarray. The Scorpion Clan assassinates Lord Hasaki, and the Clan Wars begin. The Empire of Valinon exploits the internal chaos of the Dominion ruthlessly. By the end of the year 34% of all Dominion orbital cities around the gas giant Prometheus lay in Valinon hands. New Ortaga declares war on Dominion allied Empire of New Edo.

926 NIC: Scorpion Clan under Bayushi Shoju seeks sanctuary in Valinon andis given safe haven. The Dominion continues under the vague leadership of Lion Clan Daimyo Akodo Toturi, although internal war between the Clans still persists. Toturi launches an attack across Valinon posts, in the hope his en masse attacks will force Valinon to call for a truce. New Edo falls to the Grand Duchy of New Ortaga, and it becomes a Protectorate state.

931 NIC: Dominion offensive ends. Scorpion Clan begins ruthless executions of all captured Dominion officers. The Empire of Valinon and the Imperial Principality of Taka enter initial alliance after Taka breaks from the Mizunan empire. Taka establishes itself on Proxima Centauri and enters the Proxima Centauri Defense Initiative joining Valinon, New Ortaga, and Crimson Sparta.

933 NIC: Dominion forces nearly depleted, only 4 of the Seven Great Clans still fully functioning in any form. Valinon launches final campaign to conquer Prometheus.

934 NIC: Last Dominion of Outer Centauri orbital city of Uchi Siga falls to the Empire. Prometheus is put under martial law. Scorpion Clan and External State Security forces work with occupational authorities to hunt down all remaining Dominion officers and Clan lords. Outer Dominion Wars official ends.

948 NIC: Valinon becomes the United Star Empire of Valinon when the occupational government of Prometheus and parts of Proxima III are disbanded. All of the Five Worlds now enjoy full representation in the Imperial Diet.

952 NIC: The Empire of Valinon enters the Lumbosan War on Earth. The brief war ends in what was called a “victory” for the Empire with the would-be Lumbosan despot forced to leave Lumbosa.

953 NIC: Valinon grants sanctuary to the People’s Republic of Harding Beach Island’s government-in-exile after forces of Tilsitsin defeat it.

954 NIC: The Dominion of Falasmayon and the Most Serene Republic of Dagoth-Ur establish themselves on Proxima Centauri. They join the ranks of the Proxima Centauri Defense Initiative. Crimson Sparta returns to Earth.

959 NIC: The Empire enters into the Knootian Civil War, or Shadow War. Valinon is part of the coalition that drives Dick Tator from power and keeps GDODAD forces from setting up a puppet government. Although Valinon refuses to ratify the Tarasovka/Vortex treaty, it accepts it as a cease fire agreement ending the war. Valinon also ratifies treaties with Knootoss including a mutual defense agreement, and a mutual trade agreement.

960 NIC: Valinon establishes treaty port of Sheffield on Mars in the territory of the Libertarian Paradise of Sunset. Dominion of Falasmayon joins Valinon, Taka, and New Ortaga as senior partners in the Proxima Centauri Defense Initiative.

962 NIC: Crown Prince Rowald Alderman marries Princess Ami of Taka, solidifying the Takan/Valinon alliance by blood.

963 NIC: Emperor Gustav celebrates his Diamond Jubilee and becomes the longest reigning Emperor in the history of the Empire, surpassing Emperor Penrod the Great’s 79-year record. Prince Dozle Alderman III is born to Crown Prince Rowald and Princes Ami.

969 NIC: Emperor Gustav Alderman dies at the age of 137. Crown Prince Rowald becomes Emperor Rowald Alderman I and Princess Ami is crowned Empress Ami Alderman. Prince Dozle becomes Crown Prince and heir apparent to the throne of the Empire.

In the year 952 NIC, during the period of the Lumbosan War, was a victory for the anti-Valonian coalition which was growing greatly at the time. During this period, a stalemate had existed between the forces of Mezitzia, based within the capital of Lumbosa, and the forces of Valion based outside the city. With the navy of Soviet (something or other) beating the crap out of the Valonian navy, and the encroaching forces of another equally powerful nation, a peace treaty was reached in which the Valonian forces withdrew in the exchange that the current leader of Lumbosa would give wayto democratic elections. Equal losees were taken and neither side gained exactly what they had originally wanted, therefore, in the history of Mezitzia, it has gone down that a slight victory was achieved for the Anti-Valonian forces. However, a later series of communications has shown that the Soverign nation of Mezitzia shows no "hard feelings" towards the Empire of Valinon.

Thank you for your time,

Yes, actually. I should have already put it here. For information on His Majesty's Star Armada go here

But please remember that it is slightly dated. Notably all the stations in the Sol System have been completed and the command center of the Sol System Protectorate Zone is now at Voltaic, not Grenada.

It's a bit... big. But I'll get it all read, anyhow.
