Change the Game

14-12-2003, 16:22
We really need to change the gameplay and practical format of this game! Although they're were tons of ideas and stuff to what we should do, we should get it down, and let the admins see our idea, so that they might change and update the game for the better. These are some of my ideas:

1. Drastic change in gameplay. Instead of just issues, why not have some management stuff on infrastructure, economy, military, and foreign affairs.
2. Reorganize the regions so that, they're not thousands of regions with empty countries, instead regions packed of them, thus makes a more challenging game, as countries fight each other for land and wealth. Like continents. And USERs should not be able to make regions due to the fact it's going to get out of hand.
3. For politics, make sure the government type reflects the issues and ways to run the country. For example, a dictatorship won't allow elections, since the dictator will never give up his power! It's like that.
4. More features, and UN should be much more immersive, and different political types should be more clamored and allied in the internation diplomatic scene, due to the fact it makes it more Cold War/fun like.
5. Natural resources and exports should be much thought of, as oil rich nations could easily become wealthy through oil exports, etc.
6. Trade and affairs between nations should be more taken in hand.
7. Funding for different areas, such as national defence or welfare, should be measured by the player, and his revenue, or amount of money he has.
8. Money should be easily transacted, as foreign aid and investment should be make the game much more capitalist-infested.
9. Also, people in your country should be given more autonomy, as such issues and dealings will make people rise in revolt.
10. And last but not least, wars and military affairs should be given more thought, due to the fact, the game will go much more interesting and addictive, if battles and wars were fought, and players could raise and train soldiers, either through drafts or volunteering, fund and better than military programs and research, while buying up huge loads of weapons!

These are some of my thoughts, if you thoughts too, post them here, maybe the admins will take notice!

I also think players should be given more autonomy and rule over this game.

OOC: Basically, if there is a real chance that a player could actually lose, then many things would change. But would it still be free form roleplaying? I don't know.

They're not going to change the game.

They are, however, planning a sequel.

Check out the NationStates 2 forum (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=6).

Would be nice if they would change it but that would require rewriting the game card. But all that plus more will be in NationStates 2 which comes out in 6 months to a year :D

several notes on these suggestions

not everyone wants to play in the same way or at the same level

war is not everyone's game
simsoc is not everyone's game
a kind of highly modified simsoc is mine
'the' game, while not directly supporting any one approach and the expense of others
seems to stay well out of the way of the diverse range of possible approaches and objectives
and i for one have absolutely no complaint as to it's doing that

it would be nice to play more nitty gritty intimate levels, player's choice option, but has anyone considered the software overhead to impliment such a concept?

or the bandwidth?

and presumably mods and admins have to eat. and not everyone who would like to play would be able to pay.

no i find the existing context a reasonable compromise

though i would like to see room for wider variance in population effect factors. but again this would involve more complex coding and as long as we can ignore and rollplay otherwise pretty much what suits us i really see no problem in 'the game' being kept no more complex then it currently is.

i for one choose and wish to rollplay a post petrolium, post monetary and post waring states environment and do so.

war is a simpleminded appraoche to 'action'
i for one prefer something less common and more specificly and personaly interesting
a more 'alien' context as it were.
were ideas, even if many may consider them only fantasy, can be tried out, enacted and virtualy experienced.

yes i would love to reaveal more of my own nation's ways of everyday life for citizens at all 'levels of society'

those who have though out and through the mechanics of their own very different ways of life should be allowed to do so just as much as those who unthinkingly wish the stimulation of mindless headbashing

to swing the ballance way over to supporting primarily the latter at the expense of the former is of no attraction to me and i suspect there are many others here who share that feeling

there are after all numerous websites that support more convetional rp gaming

why should one that has something a little different going for it become instead yet another of them.

this would be a loss of diversity and a loss for everyone were it to do so.
