As we near the end of this fine Rping year, we must take a moment to look back at those fantastic Rp's, and RPers who graced us so much.
Here are the categories;
Best Peacefull RP
World Cup 9 Final-For being a thrilling finalé to a great tournoment
First APTO conference- For showing how a heated debate doesn't have to end in violence.
Shodan's Sannyasi - For the fact that it offers a detailed look at various nations from a neutral perspective.
The tour of The People's Anthill - Possibly the most horrifying world ever created in Nationstates
Diamond Rush-For peaceful RP. Briefly, some diamonds were found in Oompa Loompa territory and several nations organized small crews to find them. Not a whole lot of guts, plenty of guess work, double dealing, and trying to outsmart the other teams. As well, since the teams were small, it allowed for more one on one personal interaction and character development
Best Wartime RP
Amerigan Slaver War - Massive Number Of Participants with No GODMODING
The Iraqstan Civil War for well-played military, excellent storyline, character development and awesome allied cooperation
The One Ring War - Maybe not as high quality as some later wars, but it was pretty much the first major conflict, and its results still affect world politics today.
V+S Split From BeddGellert-One of the very few threads I have bookmarked to look back on for pure reading pleasure. Intricate plotline, played out as a number of small objectives rather than an all out battle for final victory, and some highly realistic play combined to raise my respect for BG/V+S through the roof.
Melkor War-For holding togethor with so many threads.
RP Of The Year
"Ardente Veritatis, Urite Mala Mundi."
Melkor's attack on EOTED-since not only did we have some jolly good war RP but it was concluded by a brilliant story about the repair of Sarah, EOTED's main AI.
S-14
Best Novelty RP
Kaukolastan declares "War on Water"-For making us all chuckle
Wombat News-All of them, for the way that they poke fun at every nation, creating great humour, without being insulting. Hilarious stuff.
War Is Scary As Hell-Honestly, An utterly brilliant domino-effect series of events involving drunken special forces operatives, various mind-altering drugs, plentiful rocket-propelled grenades, and foreign invasions of gay bars
Best RP Series
The Damien Saga-For bringing togethor many nations to one RP
Warheit Saga-For being simply astonishing, a true thriller.
Echoes & Journey- For Excellent Charcter Development
The whole Iesus-Christi vs Lavenrunz series-From back when General Matthew Iesus was the dominant evil in the world, prior to Melkor's unchaining.
The Elven Children Series Nathicana's Mateo plotline-but a truly chilling end for sure!
The Arani civil-Great war plotline
WWII - Replayed An ongoing series involving perhaps fifteen separate threads. Beautiful plots and stories on all sides, only the most scant traces of questionable behavior, and the final proof that war works better if it stays IC only.
Most Inspiring RP
Europa Brittanica-for the Melkor VS UTP conflict.
Best Post
The Evidencing of Posts Thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2368109#2368109)
Best Peacefull RP'er
Dominion of Nathicana-For taking her nation to the top without major conflict
Whispering Voices-He has a lucid and compelling style, whether it be a war thread or something more "peaceful" . I think he also makes the other contributors in the thread write harder due to his high standards.
Best Wartime RP'er
Melkor Unchained - because he does so much with such presence
Arani - The pyrotechnics are wonderful to watch!
Outstanding RP Acheivment
Outstanding Lifetime RP Acheivment
Scolopendra-Numerous fantastic RP's
Ma-tek-for some damn fine writing. Love him, or hate him, for whatever reasons, he has come up with an intricate Empire concept that while borrowing from other bits, has been overall, rather unique and highly detailed
Freebodnik-For creating so many superb and completely original nations, each fully fleshed out with great writing, characters and atmosphere.
Outstanding Contribution To Nationstates
SLAGLands-for the Dig thread and SO many others that have added color, content, humor, and drama to the forums
Melkor, because he acts as such a great figurehead for evil, in a world where so many tend toward grey, and because he somehow fits in a tremendous amount of moderating on top of all that.
The Moderator Award
Scolopendra - for the combat boots of justice.

First, a suggestion for "Best Serial RP"
Nominee: Automagfreek
Series: "The Damien Saga" (AKA, the oft-shifting leadership of AMF)
Reason: The shifts, changes, drives, thrusts and reversals have kept RP alive along what has mostly been a single series for long time. The RPs that have made up the series are many and of great quality.
-------
Nomination if I could nominate myself (as part of a group) for "Best non-Serious (Joke) RP, Military": The RP with Sniper Country and others rushing about a major SC city, wrecking havoc while variously farked up.

Threads count as RP's
Rp'ers are just good people.
Now this is great! I have had many nations, and the thing i hate msot, is bad RPers. Have you had that problem when you make a war RP, and you immedialtey get infested by one day old nations who wanna n00k everyone without a valid reason? That stinks. This is the perfect way to reward RP! Pablicosta and all who cooperate in this, you do a wonderfull job!

Reploid Productions

Nation: Scolopendra/Zero-One (in short, the player behind those nations)
Category: Outstanding Lifetime RP Achievement
Reason: Having witnessed Scolo's various roleplays on the forums, I would have to say Scolo's assorted storylines are some of the best on the forums. The Zero-One history thread, the deep space colony storyline.. and my own personal RP experiances with Scolo in the Iraqstan civil war/Um Lizaa extraction story and in the 'Journey that Aims at the End of the World' thread. I think he's one of the best RPers on the site, if not the best.

Thanks Reploid Productions-ADDED
RP: Amerigan Slaver War
Wartime RP
Reason:
No one godmodded in any way which I can remember. Despite the numerous forum crashes we managed to keep it all together. 20+ nations in one war isn't something which normally is pulled off without any bull. Posts were well written and thought out. The addition of a GM helped people keep up with the ever growing size.

WC 9
Category: Best Peacefull RP
Reason: The greatest competion around, the World Cup, every boy's dream. Hosted by Europa Brittania and Ravespire it lasted a month involving 92 nations all joining together to play football. The final was a thriller Ravenspire against Europa Brittania. It was Ravenspire who took the lead in the match when O'Hanrahan, who completely miscued his clearance gifted the Ravens an attack they did not waste, slamming the ball past an exposed Reeves. But EB hit back shortly before half time in a well worked routine. A Kiewietz corner found Lester in space, but his clever dummy allowed Lionel a bullet header he did not waste to tie the score and that's how they went in at half time. To find out the final result go to http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86242&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=820. So I urge you to agree with me. The greatest peaceful RP ever has to be the World Cup. And this one had it all, red-cards, last minute goals and penlties made this the greatest peaceful RP ever.

OUtstanding RP acheivment is for a seriously fantastical RP'er, but just in one RP.
EXAMPLE
[random nation name] for her fantastic RP in "True Love And hate"[made up RP Title]
I'd like to nominate my own when Vrak hosted the World Court but fear that was kind of a long sleeper. :D
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
edit: I'd like to nominate Alcona&Hubris's Diamond Rush thread for a small scale non-warlike RP. Too bad it didn't finish. I'll dig up a link soon.
edit2: I nominate the Melkor War and its gazillion threads for War RP.
Steel Butterfly

Reason: This saga, filled with conspiracies and numerous twists and turns, is fantasy, action, sci-fi, drama, and so much more. Chapter one dealt with time travel and eventually time compression. This short RP opened the way for Chapter 2, the 35 page RP, that could win many an award on its own. The characters involved, especially Warheit, are very detailed and the story digs deep into their psyches. The plot twists are crazy and the different levels that you could take the story on are varied. Being that it is a trilogy, Chapter 3, which is expected to begin new year's day, will prove that nothing is as it seems, evil is good, good is evil, and something will happen that shakes the very foundation of the empire, as well as destroy and entire race of super-humans.

Nation Name: Dominion of Nathicana
Category: Best Peaceful RP'er
Reason: Well, I can't think of any particular single reason; simply the fact that Nathicana has maneuvered brilliantly since she arrived on the forum in <insert month here> (I can't remember...). Not to mention that the timing of her arrival was amongst perhaps the worst period here on NS; a period of wanton godmoding and, to be frank, often terrible RP. The fact that she persevered amongst all that rubbish alone speaks volumes of her ability as a RPer, and, to top it all - she (the player) has guided her nation to a position of power without massive conflict... which is very, very impressive for such a latecomer. Two billion thumbs up.

Scott had not the room to fully extend his weapon, the Melee rought heights not even he had known. The physical number of Greenskins defied belief, and they had simply forced the Brittanians as far back as they could go.
Scott was already Calf-deep within the freezing murky waters of the Beach, his uniform tunic a drk gray where the filthy water had dishounoured it so. Behind him the desperate splashing of men struggling to stay afloat whilst fightingScott had not the room to fully extend his weapon, the Melee rought heights not even he had known. The physical number of Greenskins defied belief, and they had simply forced the Brittanians as far back as they could go.
Scott was already Calf-deep within the freezing murky waters of the Beach, his uniform tunic a drk gray where the filthy water had dishounoured it so. Behind him the desperate splashing of men struggling to stay afloat whilst fighting at the same time all to apparent.
A loud scream of pain brought the total extinction of B Company 1st Platoon, their numbers cut to nothingness as the unstoppable tide of Orcs broke through the left flank now that there was no surviving Brittanians to defend. To his right F Company were being savaged, and though he strained he saw no surviving Command colours within the battling group, only a handful of youthful privates, whose lives were to be extinguished on this land of pure evil.
Now up to his knees within the water the General reeled as he fought one, two, three Orcs simultanously, his personnal entourage gone. His vision passed over the bloodied corpse of his Comm officer, pistol still in had, his gut totally eviscerated. With a grunt he sent his Saber through the skull of an aggressor, before booting it to the ground, and dispatching his accomplice.
Taking a breath brought to him via the lack of Greenskins able to advance due to their crushing size, he looked to the corpse littered ground. A hint of blue and red attracting his attention.
On the ground, still clutched by the severed arm of its holder, the Command Company Standard lay. Dirtied, bloodied and torn, but intact.
Bringing his shoe into contact with the forehead of another Orc, he stumbled forwards, on to the shore and retrieved it. His heart swelled with pride as he slowly swung the Banner upright.
For what seemed like an eternity the fighting stopped. Greenskins paused, the bright colours of the Banner registering on their blood crazed minds, and the beleagured Brittanians shocked by its reamergence.
And then the cries started.
"For Brittania!"
"For Freedom!"
"For All!"
Scott and the rememnants of 1st Attack Wave, Warfleet Alpha ploughed into the Orcs anew, storming from the water to meet their savage foes in glorious battle.
Left and right Orcs fell, gutted, eveciserated, Decaptiated.
But gradually the Brittanians dwindled, no amount of inspiration changing the fact they were outnumbered twenty to one.
Scott was forced to the ground beneath five of the foul Orcs even as he fractured the skull of one and gutted another, his cries of inspiration contuing until a crude Battleaxe crushed his skull against the watery rocks of the bay.
Eventually the last of the Brittanians fell.
Landing Point No. 35 was lost.

Blame any typos in the headings on Pablicosta. The below are just nominations, not votes, thus the multiple entries under each heading. All the below is subject to change, since I'm writing this rather late at night!
Best Peaceful RP
Shodan's Sannyasi - for the fact that it offers a detailed look at various nations from a neutral perspective.
The tour of The People's Anthill - possibly the most horrifying world ever created in Nationstates
I also remember a great RP centred round a diplomatic dinner party, featuring some great work by Lavenrunz and Menelmacar.
Best Wartime RP
The One Ring War - Maybe not as high quality as some later wars, but it was pretty much the first major conflict, and its results still affect world politics today.

Nathicana's Mateo plotline...haven't read it all yet, but a truly chilling end for sure!
The Arani-civil-war plotline (which is still continuing)
Most Inspiring RP

...and I ask you...what exactly is "the top"? How is Nathicana a "major power"? You obviously all are talking about IC stuff and not complimenting her on her (good) roleplays...since many a roleplay has come along without conflict. Nominee: Sniper Country, Western Asia
Category: Novelty RP, for "War Is Scary As Hell"
Reason: Honestly, the most fun I've ever had writing for an RP. An utterly brilliant domino-effect series of events involving drunken special forces operatives, various mind-altering drugs, plentiful rocket-propelled grenades, and foreign invasions of gay bars, the RP constantly teetered back and forth between the plausible (though strange) and the utterly absurd. Much amusement for all involved.

I nominate Alcona and Hubris' thread
Diamond Rush
For peaceful RP. Briefly, some diamonds were found in Oompa Loompa territory and several nations organized small crews to find them. Not a whole lot of guts, plenty of guess work, double dealing, and trying to outsmart the other teams. As well, since the teams were small, it allowed for more one on one personal interaction and character development.
http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1662621#1662621
For the Best Wartime RP, I nominate the Melkor War. There were so many threads to pick from. As well, if one could look past the OOC banter, there were quite a bit of good writing going on. Obviously the Europea Britannia post is perhaps the most moving.
Therefore, out of the many Melkor War thread, I nominate the Orm Embar thread as a particularily good example of roleplay writing. I realize that Orm Embar made its appearance before but, and I may be wrong, this is the first time it was involved in a major conflict. I think Kalessin did a pretty good job in fleshing it out as well as the other players reacting to its presence.
http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61833
And Wombat News gets my vote for novelty RP. He graciously did some slapstick humour in the Vrak World Court thread. A sample:
Meanwhile, back at the Ratz Crapton: Dawn’s early morning light crept up on Seamus with the subtlety of a Drum Gods general with a new nasty toy to play with, and beat him gently around the head. “Uuugggh,” he groaned, as he tried without much success to shake the koala battering at his temples with a pair of sledgehammers. “Woozzit, wherumi …” Squeezing an eyelid open, he came to the conclusion that he was in a bed. A very, comfortable bed. In a very comfortable bed next to someone. In a very comfortable bed next to … a bloody great walrus! Seamus yelped as both eyes flew open, and he simultaneously tried to levitate from where he was lying and check that he was still clothed … which he wasn’t. “Ah, Holy Wombat, naw” he moaned. “Dierdra!” As he started to take stock of the situation, the huge form lying on the bed started to rumble and shudder. Not knowing whether this meant she was waking up or was just plain hungry, Seamus tippy-toed quietly towards the door.

In fact, better yet, can we get a Post Of The Year award?
--Felix
Not really 'cause I cant put an entire long post like that on the first post can I. I misht make a nother thread for evidencing the Post of The Year Award...
I have two rps I'd nominate... but one isn't finished, and both are rated innapropriate for people under 17.
Besides, I'm not sure what they'd go under.
So shall all enemies perish... (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=104066)
It's all gone very, very wrong (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101706)
If there was a Story RP section... but there isn't, so.

The first one is about Prince Alexander brutally killing two thieves (Basically, but I did it very well... and I suck at summarising. The first post explains everything, the remaining posts were just something I did to amuse me and Teritora)
The second one... um... I'd prefer if I didn't have to attempt to summarize it.

I could put them under Series RP :?:

The first one is more of... could it go under "Best Post"?
The second one... yeah, why not. Though it's not much of a series... Literary rp, perhaps?

Between you and me, WV and Manmen's writing style look pretty darn similar. :)

Nation Name: Der Kriegsmarine (Sinking of the Liberty)
Category: Best RP Sequence
Sequence ‘name’ (highly unofficial): WWII - Replayed
Comments: An ongoing (for about three months now) series involving perhaps fifteen separate threads. Beautiful plots and stories on all sides, only the most scant traces of questionable behavior, and the final proof that war works better if it stays IC only.
Nation Name: Beddgelert/Victoria and Salvador (Beth Gellert)
Category: Best Wartime Roleplay
Thread Name: [can’t remember - something to do with V+S splitting from Beddgelert]
Comments: One of the very few threads I have (or rather, since the tragic purge, had) bookmarked to look back on for pure reading pleasure. Intricate plotline, played out as a number of small objectives rather than an all out battle for final victory, and some highly realistic play combined to raise my respect for BG/V+S through the roof.
Most Loved Character:

OOC: Hey Pablicosta, would it be too much trouble for you to submit my nominations?
I just put the one you submitted today on, and just noticed the two on Page 1, getting to it...
Character Name: Si Ling I
Category: Most Hated Character
Reason: Despite leading the Empire of the Eternal Dawn through its tricky early 'period' in an (arguably) brilliant manner - namely, securing a position amongst the 'powers that be' despite an absolute lack of military might at the dawn of the Empire - Si Ling, I feel, is widely hated... possibly because of that early (arguable) success. Known for his quick temper and lack of tact, Si Ling rarely failed to dispay his hatred for certain members of the International Community, and ordered the only atrocity in EOTED history: the understated and so-called Moscow Incident. Despite a retcon due to Russian Forces' ignore of the incident (sour milk, any one?), it generated the wide view of Si Ling as being a butcher and an aggressor. An opinion that lives on today, it tarnishes the Empire's reputation and makes it incredibly difficult for Si Ling's successor and daughter, Rialla ux-Rihad II, to create the positive reputation that she so desires for the Empire that she loves. Si Ling is undoubtedly the cause of the current spate of hatred directed at the Empire, and, without doubt (IMHO), is amongst the most hated characters ever to appear here on NS.
(NOTE: Perhaps it's inappropriate for me to nominate Si Ling, as he is my character; but in my defense, I note that nobody has been in as good a position to witness to the effects of Si Ling's rule on my Empire. I have no doubt that Rialla is largely judged on the basis of her father's actions - and although the recent 'political instability' in the Empire caused friction via erratic behaviour of the Government, that friction may well have been far less damaging had Si Ling's rule been more successful diplomatically.)

Landschwert Task Force
--------------------------------
Ray Brumos leaned over the railing of the powerful Hamburg Class super carrier. The ocean was rough, eight-foot swells pounded into the massive fleet carrier. The salvage operation was over, and the entire fleet was moving back to Ruhr. They were the last of Ruhrian Forces in the region of Aperin, the rescue operation of the RNS Tolkin was successful, but the cause of the accident was still unknown.
It was believed that there was a fuel leak in the main hanger bay, and it was only a matter of time until somebody lit a match, figuratively. Any spark could have caused that explosion. Brumos realised that it was most likely an accident on the part of a deckhand in the armory, where somebody was maintaining and arming one of the heavy explosives. It could have been anything, but that was not for them to decide. They had the wreck on the RNS Pelican deep-sea salvage vehicle and were now hauling it back to Nevada Naval Air Base for further inspection.
Before walking out onto the deck, he was briefed by his meteorologist to watch for a major meteor shower. An aviator was also watching the skies, Brumos walked over to him. “Nice night, isn’t it…Captain Burna?”
The younger captain looked over and smiled, coming to full attention. “Yes, Admiral.” His salute was rapid. Brumos laughed. He wasn’t on duty.
“Relax, Captain. I am out here just to enjoy the view. Big meteor shower is expected tonight, so they say. The ship’s meteorologist briefed me about somewhere around sixty-two entries per hour. He said that is a big number, especially for no comets passing through.” His finger stretched to the Orion Constellation, “that is the shower’s radiant. Expect them to come from there. They said it was going to be much heavier over Northern Aperin, though. We just get the tail end.”
The captain was excited. His eyes traced the skies, looking for the much anticipated ‘shooting stars’. Just then, it began. Two flew side-by-side right from the heart of the Orion constellation. They passed right over the ship heading towards mainland Aperin. The fleet was turning back. Every active ship had been ordered to leave, which was essentially the rest of Ruhrian forces. And now, the picturesque night made it seem much easier. It made Brumos nearly forget the damaged tomb on the ship behind the carrier. There was not a reason for that much death. Hundreds of dead and wounded, for most likely an accident, he put it out of his head. More meteors fell from the sky, deflecting off and burning up in the atmosphere, somewhere over Aperin.
He was happy that it was over, he was happy his job was done. It was all he had hoped for since entering the region, that he could get out as fast as possible. There was more death than he had expected though, unnecessary death and waste. He shook his head as the sky lit up.

The RNS Namika
--------------------------------
The dark metal of the cruise-missile submarine cut through the Aperinian waters smoothly, calmly, and stealthily. She cruised deep into the territorial waters of the region, and was just outside of internationally respected waters, twelve miles regarding United Nations law. The Conn Tower was illuminated crimson red, the aura of the crew was, to say the least, frightened. The rest of the fleet had not been informed of the Namika’s mission. The Defence Intelligence Agency’s covert mission department, also known as the XM-2, gave them the a set of orders known only as the Theta Omega Missions. A secret set of arrangements for a planned attack on any nation in CACE.
The opportunity had presented itself. As the fleet was leaving, the Ruhrian DIA had left a little present for CACE. The orders were clear, but not to be presented to the crew until the last minute to maintain absolute secrecy. The DIA XM-2 director knew of it, the ship’s commodore knew of it, his XO also, and the Der Angst government had known of it. Each of them knew of the plans and supported it, the XO least of all, however.
Both the Commodore and the Captain stood in the conn, overlooking the developments in the heart of the vessel. Commodore Jonathon Pryce was dead quiet while the XO, Mikhail Naronavek, was placed in charge of directing the sub silently below the surface vessels. With luck, their presence, which had been undetected thus far, will remain undetected.
Naronavek looked at Pryce, “Commodore, we are nearing our target point. Should we inform the crew?” He asked calmly, a few men overheard and looked back towards the two. His eyes caught their curiosity and he looked sternly, his index finger extended and shook serenely back and forth, subtly telling the shipmen to redirect their attention back to their operations.
Pryce nodded, “Go ahead, Mikhail. Inform them of our duties.” The Commodore walked down the stairs and sat in his chair, he closed his eyes as Naronavek brought the crew to attention.”
Naronavek ”Attention, Attention, this is the XO speaking. Within minutes, we will be launching a small attack on a CACE member state. Twelve Juliet-XV Sub-Launched Supersonic missiles will be striking this nation’s coastal radar and communications centers. After, we will be returning home as fast and as secretly as possible. If we are caught, the government will disavow any knowledge or responsibility for this crews actions. However, I am confident that we will be successful. Returning to Red Alert, all men, general quarters.”
The ship’s bell rang three times, signaling a strike was to take place soon. Blood was to be taken this dark night over Aperin. The XM-2 realised that the Meteor Shower would cover the missile’s last minute ballistic trajectory, and render any early-warning radars useless. Pryce stood and tucked in his shirt. His left arm reached out towards the ship’s phone. “Conn to Weapons, open tubes one through four, six through eight, eleven, and sixteen through nineteen. Check your target orders box and pull out the file named Theta Omega. You are to target the twelve selected Radar, Electronic Warfare, and Communications centers.” He hung up after he heard the officer’s confirmation. “Helm, bring us to seventy five feet. Up bubble one degree. Take us on course three-twenty-eight. Once we level out, make your speed six knots.”
The men responded with an ‘aye-aye’. The orders were carried through with. The vessel angled up before the doors opened. If there were surface sonar, the mechanical doors would not be picked up from underneath the thermocline, the layer of water before the change in temperature that prevented most sound to go through. As the Namika leveled out, the crew became more tense. “Commodore,” Naronavek signaled, “one minute until launch.” He nodded.
Pryce picked up the ship phone again, “Conn to Sonar, any contacts?”
”Nothing on passive sonar, sir. No surface contacts or noise. We are running slowly, sonar efficiency is ninety two percent.”
”Good, John. Let me know if anything comes up.”
Naronavek walked in front of Pryce, his right hand pointing to his watch. “It is time, Commodore.”
”Conn, Weapons. Open fire. Launch all designated missiles in order.” The ship rocked as the SLCMs rocketed from their vertical launch tubes. Twelve mach-two 1,000 pound warhead surface-skimming cruise missile made their way to Cirdanistani radar, communications, and electronic warfare bases. When they came within 100 miles of their targets, they would rocket into the sky in a last minute ballistic trajectory coming straight down on their targets.
Now that the doors were closed and the missiles were off, it was time to return home. “Diving Officer, make your depth three hundred feet. Down bubble two degrees!”
”Aye, sir!” The ship’s hull popped once in the change in pressure once they passed the thermocline. The water grew darker the deeper the submarine went. Finally she leveled off. Still on red-alert and general quarters, the Commodore gave her the order. “Helm! take her on course three-five-two. Make your speed twelve knots. Good work everyone, keep it up.”
The ship passed at the fastest, quietest speed possible. They needed to get as far out as possible. By now, the missiles were just reaching their targets.
