Rugby League World Cup (Open RP)

13-12-2003, 10:36
The Rugby League World Cup has a proud history of over 50 years. Three countries have won it; those being Australia, New Zealand, and England.

Now, the REAL RWC has come to NationStates. All nations are welcome to enter, with a limit of 16 nations. Teams will be randomly split into 4 pools. The top 2 in each pool advance to the Quarter Finals, and so on.

REAL-LIFE players will be used, and each country may choose a squad of 19. Before each match, countries will name their team for the match.

Countries MAY NOT select squads until I give the go ahead.

The NZRU has submitted an application to join the RWC. Teams are being chosen already.

There's a difference between league and rugby, but I'm not too sure what it is.

The two types of 'rugby' are League and Union. They are different, just as soccer and gridion are different types of 'football'.

League is a 13-man game, Union has 15. In Union, you get 5 points for a try, 3 for penalties and drop goals, with 2 points for conversions. Whereas in League, you get 4 points a try, 2 for conversions and penalties, and 1 for a drop goal.

As you can see, Union is more kicking orientated and thus more boring. There are so many trivial penalties awarded its not funny. You can see scorelines of 24-7 with only ONE try being scored. When a Union team is 19-0 down (alot), for instance, you see teams going for bloody penalty goals!

In League it's alot more entertaining. Instead of going for penalties when 19-0 down, sides go for tries. The team with the most tries will win 99% of the time, whereas in Union its more like 50%. League is faster, has less stoppages and is the top football code in Australia.

Also, Union has rucks, mauls and line-outs. League does not. Instead of rucks, there are play-the-balls and scrums replace line-outs. League also employs the 6-tackle rule.

No, they're a Union team. Why not the Kiwis? You'd have a great team with Jones, Wiki and co.
