Bajon Begins Secret Martian Tunnel System

Bajon

Seeing its relative isolation from the rest of Mars, and practically surrounded by the vast Menelmacari wastelands, Governor Indoril sees a Martian tunnel system to be a very worthwile project.
Knowing that most nations would regard this as a threat, or would simply not like the idea. She has decided to keep it a decret.

The tunnel system is planned to run across Menelmacari territory to the west, and have a hidden exit point in Sunset. Another main route will head south, crossing Menelmacari territory, ADK Mars, and end up in Vascialian League. Other routes will be added later.

Of course, as this project is of utmost secrecy, security is a must. Therefore, the tunnels will be managed by the military, and will have "security measures" installed into them. (auto-turrents, secruity stations, etc).

As of now, thousands of Bajoni worker APMs are drilling and blasting their way through the Martian Rock underneath Menelmacari territory, masked by stealth generators being brought along with the robots.

OOC: This is all OOC knowledge, and is mainly for Mars nations to see.

Hmm... Mizar3 could make a good exit point... *whistles and walks away nonchalantly*

OOC: Well, I have a small claim on mars...gee, I hope a group of mining workers doesnt accidentaly uncover your tunnel, get slaughtered, and have somebody find their bodies mangled by turret fire, I would have to do something about that I would.

OOC: Stealth generators? Look, I know they're in Red Alert, but what exactly is the basis of their stealth generation?

Its a sensor jammer. Just makes it where sensors won't go off when a horde of robots passes underground.

Derek thought to himself, 'We can't do this alone.' He turned and went to find Governor Indoril. He was only to be on Mars for a few weeks before returning to Rönne Corp headquarts.
He finally found her, and brought up the subject.
"Look Azura, we can't have a planet wide network unless we get support."
"Derek, we've already explained this. No one would support us."
"I think I know someone who will."
"And who would that be?" she said smugly.
"Crimmond..."
"Derek, you can't be ser-"
"Look, you've been struggling to re-establish relations with them. If you introduce them to this project, its bound to have a good effect. And Mizar3 is the perfect jump point for the rest of Mars."
She sighed and looked him in the eyes. "Alright. I trust you. Take care of it."

The LRRSV Syracuse, an Albany class sensors ship, orbits mars on its usual course. Its powerful sensors are used to scan for potential harm to the now sprawling LRR colony on Mars. It had even now been named- Avia-1. The Syracuse happens to pass over Bajoni territory in its daily sweeps, and usually keeps its sensors off as it passes over forigen nations. However, the new laser spectrometer installed on the ship needed testing, so it was aimed at a stretch of land on the Bajoni border. The readings come back in short order.

"Looks like its working good. All sensor readings are normal for this area- wait a minute! There must be a mistake here."
"What's the problem?"
"There seems to be a subterranean lava passage or tunnel of some sort, totally anomalous for this area."
"That is pretty strange. Put it down on the charts. We'll investigate this later."

The news reaches the main LRR space station, a design relatively common in the sol system, with three toruses connected to a central hub which contains a docking bay and defensive armerment.

"Incoming data packet from the Syracuse."
"Log it."

The information is logged to the stations giant memory banks, and processed by the AI.

The AI processes the data, and, in doing so, is reminded of something it heard not long ago, rumors about a secret Bajoni tunnel system. There were already many tunnel systems on mars, but none that went to forigen nations were ever kept secret. The AI immediately sends the information to the sensors processing center, along with mention of the tunnel rumors.

"This could be important. But its propably of way more geologic value than military. Josh?"
"Yep?"
"Tell the nearest outpost to the sensor anomaly to send out a scout trooper and a geologist to the anomaly site."
"Roger that."

OOC: I assume you realize the time involved in such an effort... 10-20 years to get as far as Sunset is reasonable. It will likely be discovered as well - why not just ask and see if we want to run a mag-lev through it? I believe our stance toward Bajon has softened in the intervening years.

Mag-lev? We can do mag-lev. We can do lots of stuff!!! Vacum-tube high speed personell transports.....those lend themselves to tunnels pretty well....of course there's the matter of airlocks and such.

OCC: Is there a new map of the mars region?

IC:

All along the LRR colony's border, the small outposts break out their defensvie weaponry. Plasma cannon turrets start appearing on the tops of watchtowers. Bunkers housing anti-tank weaponry are soon constructed, and armored groups take up residence at positions close to the border. with the threat of a spillover war, as well as the possible threat of bajoni insurgency, they could not afford to take any chances. At one outpost, closest to the Bajoni border, a convoy of vehicles and marines arrives. Along with the regular marine troopers, armed with heavy plasma rifles and in partially camoflauged EVA suits, are two others. They are ushered inside by a waiting noncom, and soon find themselves in the equipment room.

"Your stuff is right over there ma'am, and yours, sir, is on the opposite bench. When you're ready to go, call up the hanger bay."
"Thankyou, sergent."

-FriendsOOC:  Someone spelled his name right! *faints*

IC: Reil looked over the message and blinked. It had come in on a channel he had never seen befor and was coded in a code so old it dated back to the first GDODAD. "Send a reply. Same data stream and same code..."

"That is an interesting idea, whomever you may be to know such a code. I would support such an idea. Assitance? It would depend on the benefits to my Empire. And my... personal insentive... to ensure there are no leaks from my side of the network. If the insentives are not enough... I have no proof this call is anything more than a hacker having some fun."

Note:
The sensor jammers would show what was their before, not a large dead spot. Also, these tunnels are 6w by 10h, so its kinda hard to detect them.

Also, if any nation actually did discover the tunnels, Bajon's excuse is that they are test tunnels for an unannounced public tunnel network.

And, Sunset, I know about the time involved, thats why I'm bringing a few select nations in on the project.

OOC: Pinnacle Base has very, very, very sensitive scanners.

Then again, there's no money in it for anyone, things that happen on the planet rarely affect Phobos, and I'm bored.

OCC: Bajon, the Albany is a sensors ship. To not detect at least a slight anomaly would be the greatest insult to LRR since the Attican affair. This thing is 95% sensor, 3% motor, 2% crew and electronics.

OOC: Bah I say!

IC yet OOC... :?

The Tunnel Network has been canceled. Pressures inside the Bajoni government, and lack of support from an outside source have had to put the project on indefinate hold. As of now, only a single tunnel running under the Menelmacari border exists.

Bajoni needs to turn its attentions elsewhere anyways.
