Rising Sun over the Pacific

The snow reflected the bright light of the sun into the man's eyes, and he pulled his sunglasses down, shielding his vision from the reflection. He strolled down Runway 13L, watching the two Su-47-1200s shoot down the other runway, banking off into the morning sky. Soon, the brains in the R&D department would finish the modifications to the Raysian fighter, change the designation, and sleep in beds in new houses.

He turned, and continued walking down the runway towards hanger #133. It was non-discript, and painted a simple matte black. However, a disproportionate number of guards, 15 to be infact, stood by it, armed with Type 100 carbines and Type 93 Sniper Rifles. As he approached, he nodded to the gaurds, saluting. They returned the motion, and he walked past.

He walked through the personel door, and standing in front of him was, in his opinion, one of the most beautiful aircraft he had ever seen. "Colonel," one of the men around the aircraft said, nodding. The pilot, who had know removed the aviator style sunglasses, nooded back.

He appraoched the plane, and put his hand on the fighter. He smiled, he could feel the history and power flow through the fighter. He stretched is arms out, running his hand along the airframe. A voice spoke from behind him. "Col. Watanabe, are you ready?"

Col. Akira Watanabe turned back, and nodded. He looked back towards the fighter, smiling as thoughts filled his head. One thought in particular...Tora, Tora, Tora!

Watanabe popped his neck as he sat looking out the cockpit of the fighter. His golved hands rested on the stick and throttle, and he settled into his seat. In front of him was a little less than a mile of runway. He was surounded on all sides by mountains, the only opening a gap in front of him. "Cherry Blosom, this is Oni One, preflight is good, am lined on runway, request permision for take off, over."

"Oni One, you are cleared for take off on Runway 17L. Tora. Tora. Tora."

Akira pushed the throttles forward against the stops, the wheel brakes holding the fighter in the place despite the amount of thrust pushing the fighter. He flipped a switch mounted in front of the twin throttle levers to the 'ESTO' position. Small vents on the under side of the aircraft opened, venting near 50% of the produced thrust towards the ground. The rest exited from the engine nozzles on the back of the aircraft that had been rotated to an upward angle. He released the brakes.

The fighter travled no more than one hundred and fifty feet before leaping off the ground, noseing to an 85 degree angle, the vents closing and engines rotating back to a 0 degree incline. The fighter shot up, rolled once, and then leveled off.

Watanabe, using the HOTAS system, activated teh glide path, and on teh canopy in front of him, a serries of green bars seemed to hove in air, leading him on his destined path for the flight. He was heading towards the Sea of Japan, where he would bank again, down towards Toyama. From there, he would turn again, towards Tokyo.

OOC: Feel free to RP radars picking the fighter up, or satalites seeing the launch of the fighter or something like that, or getting involved in general.

Akira banked in the fighter, turning towards Tokyo, the drone of the engines comforting to him. He rolled the fighter a few times, before diving low. He cruised right over downtown Tokyo, inverted, showing off the fighter to the people. He reverted, and dove even lower as he cruised out over the bay, towards the ships. One of the small picket ships picked up the fighter, its lesser radar classifying it as a sea skimming missle.

The fighter nosed up over the ship, climbing to 5,000 feet, and the pilot depressed a button in the cockpit. The result was like a kick in the pants. The Pulse Detonation Hybrid engines kicked into the PD stage, and the fighter jumped speeds, slamming through the sound barrier, apraoching Mach 2 rather quickly. Within seconds, he was over international waters.

"He's not turning back?" the Supreme Chancellor asked the man on the other end of the phone.

"No. He was supposed to turn south over Tokyo bay, head towards one of the smaller islands for weapons testing. Right now, he's out over the Pacific somewhere. He might have just underestimate the power of the hybrid PD engines, but its unlikely."

"Very well, I will inform the Empress. Also, be ready to scramble a response squadron. If hes armed with live weapons, this could be very bad."

"Hai." The phone clicked dead.

Diving from the upper atmosphere, the three Viper-II (http://home.earthlink.net/~alpha_zero_usm/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/apollo.jpg) fighters dove on a course that the other pilot could easily see.

When they reached a few thousand feet they broke formation, climbed straight up, did four point rolls and not one, but two inverted loops before forming up again on a parallel course, still slightly ahead of him.

The leader flipped the radio on and watched the jet. "How you doin' today sir? I don't believe I've seen that class of jet have that kind of acceleration before."

***Somewhere in the Pacific Ocean***

Life aboard the Tsunami Class Fleet Carrier, the Maelstrom was dull. Slowly cruising through the waters of the Pacific, the Maelstrom was enroute to the 5CN Naval Base on Hainan. Alongside, a trio of Trafalgar Class Littoral Combat Ships and a pair of Hai Teng SSK/Hs cruised along.

On the bridge, the commander of the squadron, Vice Admiral Jun Li, sat in his chair, silently drinking coffee and smoking a cigar. Everyone was lounging about. The radar officer stood up and stretched. A minute later, as his eyes glanced once more at the screen, the radar officer started.

"Admiral Li, radar has picked up four unidentified aircraft flying two hundred klicks north away from our current location. They are going extremely fast..."

"Damn't... Just what I don't need... A problem... XO, scramble a CONTACT squadron and investigate..."

The executive officer glanced up and acknowledged.

Moments later, a dozen F-39G Corsair Interceptors catapulted off of the runway of the Maelstrom, heading north...

The 2 F-109Ns loomed up in the straosphere, with SCRAMjet FASTPACKS strapped on the ventral center mount. The aircraft were running standard on their BAPT-10910s, and the active lidar was painting an interesting picture of the swarms of aircraft.
"Roost, I want a scan run on that mess at grid 21-209 Most F*cking Pronto."
The E/B-42 designated Roost, which was a renamed version of a United Elias aircraft, began checking Lidar, EMS and Satellite Imagery on the area.
"Cuchillo 1, we're looking at 1 modified Berkut, Raysia pattern, FCN Naval Fighters bearing out of a CBG, and a mess of Crimmond Viper Twos. We're gonna check back with orders."
The datalink bursted an encrypted transmission to the Carrier Battle Group on it's "Pacifica Current" excersises, particularly to the Raven Center at the Supercarrier NESS New Empire, as Cunnigham Class destroyers began coating the sky with Lidar waves. The F-109Ns switched on Athena, as they disappeared off of every radar screen. They kept running Lidar, and began moving toward the Berkut. 10 other F-109Ns joined them, scrambling into the sky as electromagnetic catapults hurled them into the air.
"Well whaddya know, we're shadowing the shadowers."
"Cut it, hit Athena and turn of the radars. We go lidar only."
The variable geometry, forward swept wings flexed as they began their descent.
"Yeah, I know the manuals. The Four F*cking As, Athena, Accelerate, Acquire, Attack, repeat steps 2-4 as necessary."
"Watch yourself, no JITS, no shooting until shot at. I want radio silence, any necessary commo will be done over encrypted pulse.
At Mach 4, the F-109Ns advanced at the mess of Lidar blips and EMS signals.

"With great honor, Empress, I say we warn the Kido Island Facility, and send some of our fighters out to over watch it. Although, it may be to late with a rouge pilot taking off towards them. We should also issue a statement of some sort, let others know that everything is OK." He bowed, and took a step back.

He didn't know what force they were protecting the man made island from, but that wasn't his concern. He walked towards the front of the fighter, then climbed in. What did worry him was the report that the Su-47-1200 testbed, of which his brother was pilot of, had been stolen, and the ground crew gone missing.

"What do you think?" Colonel Cho Ningyi asked her wingman, Lieutenant Tranh Bo.

"They're Harriers," Tranh said immediately. "We can take them."

"Are we allowed to is the question," Cho replied. "Yoon Squadron is thirty klicks out in a holding pattern, but regardless, we dont have authority to blow Roanian fighters out of the air."

"We're supposed to be looking, remember?" Tranh said. "We're barely armed for effective air offense, if you can call six AST60s and three Mark IV ASXs threatening. Still, we can take those Harriers, but i suppose we should hold back and call command first."

Cho waited a little for Tranh to contact Islandian regional command, and fiddled with her HMS as she waited. She could see the Roanian locale of New Rohan up ahead, but as far as she could tell, New Empire forces were correct when they said they werent in the Roanian ADIZ.

Still, they were two fighters, and not exactly an offensive force, even if both carried eight advanced interception missiles.

"Hold back," Tranh reported. "Establish a holding pattern and wait for Jung Squadron. They'll handle the actual tracking, and they should be here in a minute."

"The Jap will be gone in a minute," Cho announced.

"We cant disobey command," Tranh said. "They will scuttle our careers quickly and without hesitation."

"Screw my career," Cho muttered. A ten year veteran of the EIAF's High Altitude Defence arm, she had flown state of the art tech (OOC For a modern nation at least) since she graduated from the Aerospace Training College's High Flight Operations school when she was twenty four. She knew that Command would not scuttle her career, as she was one of the better qualified, if older pilots, even at thirty four years of age. Most pilots, like Tranh, were hotshots out of ATC Intercept School, and had about twice her energy at half her age.

She sighed, and as the planes from Jung Squadron, a primarily Korean Islandian unit came into view, pushed her throttles to full and raced towards Roanian airspace, gaining altitude. The ten J400s of Jung Squadron followed, and the twelve planes flitted across the sky at high altitude in pursuit of the Japanese fighter.

The occupation by Kajiraki over fifty years ago still left the military worried if the Land of the Rising Sun concealed other designs for the peninsula.

The station's systems did not pentrate anywhere near the dogfighting raging near Tokyo, but enough radio traffic was being plucked from Kajiraki civillian ships located in the Sea of Japan.

"Yo, Chong. Check this radio traffic," spoke one of the technicians as he tapped his cigarette out in a ceramic ashtray next to him. "Seems all hell's broken loose over Tokyo."

"I knew it! They're planning to invade!" shouted the other man as he reached for the red phone, the direct line to military HQ in Seoul. "We need to inform---"

"Yes, Admiral?"

"What the hell is going on out there?"

"Well, as far as we know, there are planes from:

Kajiriki
Crimmond
East Islandia
South Dalania
Five CN
New Empire
Raysia

and our radar has picked up a Virginia Class Sub approaching fast from the east. Unknown on the country of origin."

"Why haven't they shot at each other yet?"

"Unknown sir. Intelligence on these countries are very sketchy."

"Alright, Kajriki planes are broadcasting friendly, so lets talk to them. Lets see if we cannot get some info out of SOMEONE."

*Personal Communique from Admirla D'rtang to Kajiriki forces.

"This is Admirla D'rtang of the Valient Royal Navy Stealth Carrier Vidion. We are a non-combatent, and request to talk to someone who can give us a few answers. If we do not recieve a reply, we will assume that you are compromised, and will enter this... theatre of action."

A frigate of the Spyran navy has taken up position in international waters some distance from the site of the fighter maneuvers, and is currently holding station, observing events.

"Send out the Firebirds."

The harriers wheeled back to New Rohan, and in a matter of minutes a wing of black fighters had taken off, and was zooming towards the site of the other planes. "Mode Duel2." Weapon systems activated, but were not fired. "Attention foriegn planes! Turn around now! Flying any further will be an act of war!"

Roanian ATC sent a transmission back to the capital. "Foreign jets flying towards Roanian airspace... preparing to scramble air defense systems."

The Roanian pilots sent silent communications to each other. "Action: Affirmative. Irritation of Crimmond Pilots. Annoyed." The fighters switched into two delta formations.

"We demand the immediate destruction of any sensor readings you might have taken."

OOC: Roanians only allow Menelmacari flights over their land. And that is under sufferance.

"General, the Roanians are sending their interceptors at us," Cho reported as the Roanian fighters appeared on her radar.

"Stand down, Colonel. Direct orders from Forces Command," General Choong ordered.

"Shi." She flashed two red lights on the squadronwide frequency, and the planes wheeled around, heading for international waters.

Behind her, the Naga class cruisers moved to cover their exit, arming all air defence and strike missiles and downloading a series of target coordinates from satellite intelligence. SHould the Roanians attempt to fire at the exiting fighters, they had orders to retaliate against all "targets of opportunity."

Admiral Shun hoped it would not come to that.

Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific ocean, the lone Zhou class SSBN Ningxia cruised, missiles at ready. They were to retaliate against Japan with conventional weapons should the lone Japanese fighter decide to attack any EI or Taiwanese installations.

"Take your ships out too. Otherwise, they shall be destroyed." Missile turrets along the Roanian coastline opened up, and began to display an immediate sense of security. More fighters were deployed, screening the entire island in an immense display of military might.

If the Japanese plane went any closer, there would be destruction on a scale never before seen in these waters.

Captain Sung Minggu listened to the Roanians and watched their turrets deploy all along their coastlines. She was unimpressed with the show of force, and besides, she wasnt to start a war; as soon as those fighters get out, she would just hold positions.

She wasnt worried; Yoon Squadron was on standby, one of the crack Korean interceptor units in the EIAF.

*******
The Sea Tiger class catamaran cruiser Ah-jiu and its sister ship, the Islandian Dawn awaited the enemy, about thirty klicks east of the two Naga cruisers. All ships were outside territorial waters, and as soon as the fighters withdrew (half a minute) they were to stand down and hold their positions.

"The Pacific, such a chaotic region. Sometimes I wonder if it was a mistake to make our home here.", said General Veltino

"That was the decision of our ancestors, not for you to ponder.", replied Master General Luciello. "This really is of some concern, our good allies in East Islandia have already reacted to it. Normally I would get on the phone to SANCOM and the Admiralty, but we cannot ask them to deploy another fleet with tensions in the Bosphorus. Turi, send a message to East Islandia, see what they can do."

With that Maj. Salvatore Dicevole left the room and went to the communications office a few meters away. There he wrote his message:

I'm assuming EI is located on present day China (PRC), _Taiwann is on Present Day China (ROC, Fermosa), and Spyr, based no his descrpition is protruding from North Korea, although I could be wrong. South Dalania is South Korea, and I know Crimmond is Preswent Day Poland. How many of you are located near (like, within 50 miles) Hawaii?

OOC2: The lone fighter isn't broadcasting any signles at all. However, the squadron of fighters are heading out hot (PDEs on full power), but are broadcasting full friendly signles.

OOC3: Thanks for holding out from using pics. Im using a POS laptop right now that is a 28k connection, and wont know when I'll be back on a DSL line again.

OOC4: I should explain in general whats going on. Thers a 'terrorist' group that is a little less than pleased with the outcome of WWII. I'll let you devise whats going on from there. I will remind you though, that this is all OOC info, so no majically knowing whats going on.

Akira observed all the communications and ignored them all. He continued on his preset course. He was tempted to engage the PD system, but decided against it. He wanted to conserve fuel, and get as close to the target as he could. He breathed a sigh of relief as the other aircraft in the air continued to throw around threats and compete in their little threat match.

He looked at the picture of his father and mother, killed by the atomic bombs fallout. They would all pay for the sins.

The Captain was not pleased, and was not going to give any formalities to the Roanian forces. The 12 fighters continued on their chase after what the Raven's Roost was calling "The international airborne mess".
The Athena system kicked in, picking up the Roanian radar waves, and canceling them out with other frequencies, allowing the 12 fighters to dissapear off of any radar screen.

"And how when would ppl like you suddenly realize Japan is our enemy?" Tang asked. The middle aged Colonel, still fit and trim at forty three years old, sat at his desk, sipping at a cup of fragrant tea made from the native Islandian Suya root.

"All I'm saying is to be ready," Second General Ku replied. A tall man for a Vietnamese, he was one of the top commanders in JSOC, Joint Special Operations Command, and Tang's immediate superior. "You know how it is; be flexible, Tang."

Tang sighed. "Yes, I kno, General. I teach that to our troops, so I would naturally be aware of that doctrine. But I still think you should allow Colonel Shirai's outfit for a mission like this; its not fair to discriminate against him simply because he's of Japanese descent."

Ku sighed heavily and got up to leave. "You know how it is, Tang. Shirai's outfit had about fourteen deserters in the course of two months to the Japanese during their four month duty tour in PRC China during the Japann crisis. We cant trust them with this yet, so we're assigning you and First General Sau to do this."

Tang sighed. "Orders are orders," he said as Ku left.
