TGB to start development on next generation Nimitz

11-12-2003, 12:45
The nation of The Gun Brothers is starting development on the next generation of aircraft carriers, to replace the aging Nimitz class carriers we currently have in service. This new style carrier will reduce operation and support costs by up to 15%, and should reduce the necessary crew complement by similar numbers. This new carrier will also have a reduced RCS, a more efficient hanger design, and the AEGIS radar system. Other developments are still being considered, and we expect to start construction within the next 2 years (2 RL days), with sea trials and commisioning 5 years afterwards. Below is conceptual designs for this new carrier.

Construction is complete on our new aircraft carrier. Sea trials and commisioning of this new ship will begin immediately. Once it passes the sea trials, it will replace our oldest Nimitz carrier, CV-90 Enfield.

Once we replace out aging Nimitz class carriers with these new carriers, we will consider manufacturing these for export.

The next generation aircraft carrier (commisioned as the CVN-96 Defiance) will begin active service immediately. While it shares many of the same defensive systems as the Nimitz class carrier (Sea Sparrow, CWIS, and electronic warfare), these systems should be more effective, due to the advanced controls onboard, as well as the upgraded radar. As was forcasted before this new carrier type was designed, crew size, operational costs, and maintainance costs will be reduced from the Nimitz carrier it is replacing. Below are some of its listed specifications.

Aircraft Carrier: Defiance class aircraft carrier
Propulsion system: Two nuclear power plants
Main Engines: Four
Speed: 30+ Knots
Propellers: Four
Blades on each Propeller: Five
Aircraft elevators: Four
Catapults: Four
Arresting gear cables: Four
Overall length: 1,092 feet
Overall width: 252 feet
Beam at waterline: 134 feet
Area of flight deck: About 4.5 acres
Full load displacement: About 95,000 tons
Accommodations: About 4,250 persons
Aircraft: 80
2.5 billion USD each
