Non-Humanist Religions Legalised; Populace Confused.

The Mindset

This is a purely IC post, and is not designed to offend anyone of any religion, despite my personal beliefs.

By order of the Senate, the Highers and the Prime of The Glorious Unified Empire, we at Channel 67 News present an exclusive report straight from the Chambers of Government.

Revision of Law: 76-AB:REL-9b - "Religion, Spirituality and Freedom of Belief (2763)"

As of today, 08:13 05.12.3041 (May 12 3041), Religion - particularly those previously classed as "dangerous cults" (Mormonism, Catholicism, Islam) - and Spirituality is to be allowed to be practised within Mindsettian borders. The Senate passed with 6421 to 1022 votes in favour of Religious freedom. The Order of The Highers attempted to block votes, but eventually abstained. The Prime opposes the new revision.

This revision repeals law 76-AB:REL-9a, "Religion, Spirituality and Hatred Caused", enacted in 1987, the day of Founding. It ends over one thousand years of total Atheism within The Empire.

The Highers, along with the Prime, have disallowed organised religion to construct religious buildings on Mindsettian territory due to extreme land shortages. Congregations are to be held within private homes, and Generic Law 91-AC:HAS-1a applies - "Health and Safety: No More Than Ten Persons Per Dwelling." Breaches of this law, promises the Prime, will result in recycling of all members involved.

Reports show the populace is confused by the new revision:

"What is this - 'religion' - you speak of? I have no time for such petty, foolish ideals." Claimed one businessman, Dophi Ceruck. "It is my belief that ... these 'beliefs' cause weak minds. I have no desire to become grey matter; and I shall make sure none of my Unit does so either."

"Mormonism? Ah yes, those are the squirrel people, yes?"

"The Pope? No, I've not heard of him," says one Citizen, "is he from HV?"

After brief explainations to all interviewed members of the public, we collected these responses:

"Hah. Thought so."

"Oh, no squirrels then. No, I've no interest in non-existent beings."

"Bah. Religion is boring if one of their major leaders does not host a primetime HV show. Even then, it should include as much comedy violence as possible. Commercial, false violence breeds pacifist minds, remember!"

It is therefore Channel 67 News' conclusion that this revision shall be itself repealed some time in the future, due to the Humanist majority of The Empire paying no attention to other beliefs, which they consider inferior to their own.

HV : Holovision, 3D television. Main source of knowledge, entertainment and governmental propaganda within The Empire.
Humanism : The belief that all paranormal 'things', including religion are false. We use rational thought to explain things. Things we cannot explain we hope to explain in the future.
The Highers : Genetically elite of twelve, who may attempt to block democratic laws from passing.
The Prime : Leader of the Mindset, similar to President.
Recycling : Processing of flesh of criminals into other uses, mainly food.
Unit : Family 'unit', assigned partners living together with two genetic children selected for their improvement upon the previous generation - eventually leading towards a genetically perfect society.

The Corporate Republic, which holds Christianity as its official religion, celebrates this new doctrine in The Mindset. We accept and tolerate people of all religion, or lack thereof. We hope that the Prime will change his mind, and see that this new law is an action that will have many positives and few negatives.

We are slightly sickened by the actions of cannibalism and ignorance exerted by Mindsettians, but then again, Mindsettians are probably slightly sickened by our ways.

Actually, humanism basically focuses on on humans. The definition you have doesn't have anything to do with humans.

The RCO is pleased at the law change in The Mindset, and praises the official acceptance of religious freedom. We dearly hope that, in time, the expression of religious faith will shake away some of the humanist dogmas that so entangle its citizens.

With Respect,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin, Royal Commonwealth of Oakeshottland.

Yes, since Foundation. We have slowly been working towards a genetically perfect society. Our people are not required to eat our criminals, although they are available and quite popular.

Quite right. I simply stated the core belief of Humanism, since this is the full definition:

Humanism encompasses atheists and agnostics, but it is an active philosophy far greater than these passive responses to one particular idea. With an approach to life based on humanity and reason, humanists recognise that moral values are properly founded on human nature and experience alone. We value the truth, and consider facts as well as feelings in reaching a judgement. Humanists reject the idea of any supernatural agency intervening to help or hinder us. Evidence shows that we have only one life, and humanists grasp the opportunity to live it to the full.

Humanists retain faith in the idea that people can and will continue to solve problems, and that quality of life can be improved and made more equitable. Humanists are positive, gaining inspiration from a rich natural world, our lives and culture.

Humanist thought found particular expression during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, and in the scientific, social and political revolutions of the modern age. Many people are tacit humanists, reaching similar conclusions without meeting like-minded people or reading particular texts, because these ideas are founded on knowledge, not beliefs.

Humanists think that:

* this world and this life are all we have;
* we should try to live full and happy lives ourselves and, as part of this, make it easier for other people to do the same;
* all situations and people deserve to be judged on their merits by standards of reason and humanity;
* individuality and social cooperation are equally important.

Message from the desk of Prime Pr'Varia Dancos

Hah. Dogma. You speak of Humanism as if it is a religion. No, only religions are dogmatic.

End.

We would like to ask your permission to send a number of missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to your nation. We are looking to send anywhere between 1000 to 40,000.

What do you say?

You are permitted to do so under the new revisions. However, please bear in mind that all Mindsettian laws apply to 'Missionaries' while within our nation.

Under other laws, door-to-door sales are not permitted, hence you must find another method of spreading your faith.
