The Royal Family had been murdered years ago (IC time), and the Chancery had ruled over Aerion since then along with the Dukes who maintained an uneasy alliance under the Chancellor. Chancellor Asholas has declared himself Royal Regent. There is rumored to be legitimate Royal Heirs kept in hiding within Aerion, in forced isolation by the Chancery. Though the public does not know for sure, and any investigation into the matter is harsly dealt with. Many worry that the declaration of the Royal Regency leads the Chancellor to be one step closer to the throne, who is rumored to be an intensely egotistical man. The Chancellor has even taken up residence in the massive Royal Palace in Astevane, the Aerionian capital. There is now increased security at the Royal Palace for fear the Royal Regent may be assassinated. Machine guns, tanks, and other heavy weaponry are positioned around the compound. Permanent martial law has been declared within a mile of the Royal Palace, and checkpoints have been laid out.
