High Ministry Purged (Death list released...)

Zeronia
09-12-2003, 09:18
CITIZENS! There has been much mystery about the leadership of this great nation. The rumours shall be no more! There have been traitors in our midst. Traitors! Since the sad event of my brother's death, many have come to try and usurp me from my rightful seat. The High Ministry was planning to assassinate your own leader! I was sure that they would pay the price for such treachery. Even my own kin turned their back on me. Nobody is excused from the law. Only my youngest of kin, Damien, still walks among us, hatching plots to tear the threads that keep Zeronia whole. [takes a swig from his drink] I have released a list of the former ministers, and their fates. See? I do not lie to my citizens. I do not lie to my people. I work for you, the people, and only the people.

I have purged Zeronia of her enemies. [takes another swig]

What, no one was Defenestrated? :P

During interrogations, there is plenty of roughing up, including defenestrating.

Nor drawn and quartered

See: torture.

I don't take treachery very lightly. I am quick to remove such dangers from mother Zeronia.

We don't like doing that. It's too easy. Normally, we throw the person through the pane of glass on the first or second floor.

Are there any comments relating to the fact that some guy has just signed for the death of most of the major players in government (opening up the door for a host of possibilities), or will the topic of discussion stay within the area of methods of torture? :?

To Premier Morpheus Kazzero, Greetings:

The RCO offers its condolences over the problems of treason and treachery within your government. However, as a civilized nation, we must protest such a vicious use of force, espeically against government officials, and without a public hearing. You say that nobody is excused from the law. But we respectfully ask: was there any trial for these individuals before you ordered them shot, tortured to death, drowned, boiled alive, and so forth? Where was the law then?

While the RCO certainly respects a leader's need for order and security within his nation, your activities have crossed the line into barbarism. We formally protest your actions, and hope that you will act more mercifully in the future.

With Respect,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin, Royal Commonwealth of Oakeshottland.

Cordial Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin:

We gratefully accept your condolences. This is definitely a sobering moment for Zeronians everywhere. It is sad when the people you trust most, the men and women you grew up around, try to stab you in the back. I like to think of myself as a reasonable man. A stern character, but reasonable nonetheless. I wish to give the impression to my people that I have a cold hand, but a warm heart.

I understand your concerns for what seems like brutish, callous acts of violence. I assure you with the utmost veracity that the figures I described deserved no more and no less than what they received. And to answer your question, yes, all were given a fair chance to prove their innocence. It may be worthy to point out that many of them were caught amidst the planning and preparation stages of their plot. The evidence against them was inconceivable. Some even plead guilty. I believe that the death of this handful of traitors is but a minor price to pay for the chaos, death, and destruction that would develop, had they succeeded in killing me. I did this in the best interests of the people.

It has always been held that the only possible punishment for treachery is death, any conceivable equivalent, or any conceivable worse punishment. While I am sure this will stand true for a very long time, I respect your concerns, and will seek more humane methods of dealing with these traitors in the future.

Furthermore, upon seeing your nation's motto "Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere," we wonder where justice is within your realm. With the exceptions of Ministers Castro and al-Sahaf, are there ANY ministers of your government that you have not killed or plan to kill? The RCO is not familiar with recent incidents within your state. However, can you give any assurances to the international community that you are not merely usurping more power to yourself, and secondly, that your relations with other nations will not be of the same stripe as the type of brutality you have exhibited towards your own people?

Your nation is large and old. But your economy is weak, and your government tettering. You had best explain yourself, Premier - your actions could make other nations....anxious. Purges like this can sometimes result in acts of external aggression. Do we have your word that such actions will not occur?

With Respect,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin, Royal Commonwealth of Oakeshottland.

EDIT - Tone softened, as the Premier's response was not seen before the message was sent. --RCOMFA Voegelin.

Cordial Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin:

I assure you that my seat in power is deserved. After my brother's unfortunate death, I was to take power as the new Premier. My sister, who was Acting Premier at the time of his death, refused to formally give up the position. I was stirred, but not shocked. I later learned of a plot to remove me from the scene. I still do not know exactly who brought up the idea, but I suspect it was my sister. In my absence, members of the High Ministry (those I have designated as 'former' ministers), my sister, and my youngest brother decided that I was not to be the next Premier of Zeronia.

Why? I still don't know. According to my brother's records, I, the second eldest sibling of our family, was to be bequethed the Premiership of the country. When I was notified of the scheme by the honourable ministers Castro and al-Sahaf, I took action. My sister is being held in one of the Premier's bunkers and is under investigation. My youngest brother, as well as the four former minsters I cited, are still on the run. The moment they are caught, we will do a thorough, civil investigation.

As for my thirst for power, it is nonexistant. I only wish for what is rightfully mine. I plan to fully reorganize and reassemble the High Ministry as soon as the investigation is over. I already have a list of a few worthy candidates. Zeronia's friendly relations with other nations will be left unchanged. I am here to build on Zeronia's strengths to make it a better place to live, not to destroy what my brother had painstakingly worked to create.

the Empire of Eizen officially recognizes and fervently supports the rights of all regimes in sovereign countries to rule as they choose. Hopefully you have dealt these traitors a fatal blow and that subversion has been eliminated.

To Premier Kazzero, Greetings:

While it must be admitted that the RCO has misgivings about the violence attending the purge of the traitors, we recognize the need for security and order in a political system. We also appreciate your respect for our concerns, and your willingness to seek more humane methods in the future.

We consider you a man of your word, and we will trust your retelling of the sad events in your nation. We also will trust in your resolve to build up Zeronia, and keep good relations in the international arena. We wish you Godspeed in your actions, and pray that peace returns to your land.
