Background:
The nation of Xanthal was founded on Earth in 1960 by the country's figurehead and national hero Zeke Zabertini on the values of freedom, equality, and justice. Today, Xanthal is a technologically advanced nation with a large, devoted population and a strong galactic presence.

Location and layout:
The Aellis system lies twenty light-years from the Sol system and the Than system ten light-years from Aellis. Xanthal claims the Aellis and Than systems and the space between them. Xanthal's borders do not directly contact those of any other nation, but its territory is within five light-years of PSO Capital States (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/86917/page=display_nation/nation=pso_capital_states) and The Mindset (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74986).

Systems and planets:
The Aellis system: Xanthal claims the entire system, which forms the core of its operations and houses its capital. Heavily developed and well defended, the Aellis system hosts four inhabitable planets and most of the population of Xanthal.

Xanthalian Triumvirs are elected for life, but can be removed from office by popular vote. The Council is made up of the leaders of all the Xanthalian ministries (Ministers). Each ministry has one Minister, who is elected by popular vote of that ministry's employees.
The Triumvirate makes decisions by majority vote, but their decisions can be overruled by a majority of the Council when passed with two votes or by 3/4 of the Council when passed with the votes of all three Triumvirs.

Constitution:
Called Xanthal's Primary Law, the Xanthalian constitution was ratified in 2415 and is the guiding force behind Xanthal's policies and laws. It can be amended when approved by all three Triumvirs and 3/4 of the Council. The Primary Law contains the following provisions:
-Private enterprise within Xanthalian borders shall be limited to establishments that provide nonessential goods and/or services.
-All Xanthalian citizens who do their jobs shall be provided for by the government to the best of its ability.
-Wages for Xanthalian citizens will be regulated by both a price floor and a price ceiling, the disparity between which shall not exceed five hundred percent.
-Xanthalian Citizens not under criminal investigation by the Ministry of Justice have the right to privacy in their homes.
-Supreme governmental power in Xanthal rests with the Triumvirate and Council, representatives of which are elected for life by the people and removable by popular vote.
-No Xanthalian citizen or institution has the right to take the life of a sentient being except in self-defense.
-All sentient beings in Xanthal shall be afforded the same rights.

Natural resources and trade:
Xanthal has access to many resources, but rarely harvests them. The invention of replicator technology in 2284 ended the need for most industry and agriculture in Xanthal. The Xanthalian Ministry of Economics participates to a significant degree in the international trade market, mostly in consumables and technology.

Oral Xanthalian vaguely resembles old Japanese but carries strains of many other languages, some of Earth origin and some from other planets. Simple to get the hang of but difficult to master, few people who learn the language later in life ever learn to apply all the grammatical rules.
Xanthalian is written in a complex set of over ten thousand individual symbols that resemble archaic oriental characters. The written Xanthalian language is incredibly complex. Symbols can stand for individual syllables, word sets, concepts, or even hold abstract meaning. It is nearly unheard of for anyone to learn to write in Xanthalian who has not grown up with it.

Xanthal's economy is monitored and manipulated by the Ministry of Economics. Most money goes through the government, which distributes the nation's resources to provide for its own operation and the well-being of its citizens. The Ministry of Economics also controls all the commerce in Xanthal.

2007: Xanthal sends its first deep space vessel on an exploratory mission.

2108: The first Xanthalian ship capable of faster-than-light speeds is launched.

2119: The Xanthalian government cooperates with the Aellis colonists to develop Aellis V for Xanthal's entire population.

2150: The Xanthalian population is transferred to Aellis V.

2156: The Than's failing government signs itself to Xanthalian control as a last act, putting the Than system in Xanthalian hands.

2169: Xanthal ends its socialist policies and becomes a commonwealth.

2212: The commonwealth collapses. The first Xanthalian civil war begins.

2254: The Xanthalian Empire is founded by Empress Fina on Aellis V.

2283: The Xanthalian second civil war ends when the New Xanthalian Empire is founded by a Xanthalian electronic intelligence.

2302: Simon Zabertini takes the position of Xanthalian Emperor.

2320: Simon Zabertini ends Xanthalian imperial policy and puts an elected dictatorship in place.

2321: Formal socialism is reinstated in Xanthal. Trasnia begins its pirating practices.

2340: Simon Zabertini dies. Nightshade Carrin is elected Xanthalian Dictator.

2362: Over 100,000 Xanthalian citizens die and 400 installations are lost in an accidental explosion that consumes the Dracken nebula.

2386: Nightshade Carrin dies. The Xanthalian government is restructured, placing power with a Council of Ministers and a Senate of citizens.

2388: Talmaraan VIII and Than VI declare independence. Xanthal relinquishes its claim on the Talmaraan system.

2389: Trasnia declares independence.

2393: Talmaraan VIII is conquered by the Trasnians. Than VI attacks Than IV and is occupied by Xanthalian forces.

2414: Xanthal withdraws from all but the Aellis and Mirfak systems. Than IV is evacuated when Than VI erupts in revolt against the Xanthalian occupation.

2415: The Xanthalian Primary Law is ratified.

2421: The Trasnian pirate organization dissolves.

2424: The Than prince dies and Xanthal reclaims the Than system.

2441: Five million Xanthalian capitalist revolutionists leave the country to form New Xanthal.

The Sabre class is designed to pack a strong punch in a small package. While it has only a few torpedo tubes due to space constraints; it has many phaser and disrupter banks. Its shields are of mediocre quality, so the Sabre class cannot withstand a sustained assault. It uses great speed and maneuverability to dodge attacks while attacking with its powerful weapons. An unimpressive warship on its own, the Sabre class can do enormous damage when in fleets.

Best deployed with a fleet for protection, the Rhade class can do immense damage to an opponent in a very short period of time.

The Eclipse class is massive, bigger than most starbases, but still relatively mobile. It's assault weapon power is unmatched, and it can take on most super-capital ships easily. Its size means that it is vulnerable to large numbers of smaller warships, so it is always escorted by other Xanthalian vessels. Adequately supported it can defeat entire enemy fleets. Used mostly as a weapon of intimidation by the Armada.

My policy in my own and other peoples' technology is that if you provide adequate backstory and have RPed the creation of a weapon, using it is not a godmod, no matter how destructive it is. This is based on my simple philosophy that THINGS ARE NOT A GODMOD JUST BECAUSE THEY HAPPEN TO BE KILLING YOU! However, it is always acceptable to terminate an RP for OOC reasons, even if those reasons are simply "I don't want my nation to be destroyed." Do not overuse this though, or nobody will play with you.

If you godmode around me, the godmoding part of your RP will be ignored. To review, a godmode is when you RP damage or death to me, my country, or one of my NPCs. Only I can determine damage to my stuff. Conversely, I pay the same respect to everybody else. I will not RP damage, only attacks. DAMAGE MUST BE RPED BY THE NATION WHOSE TERRITORY OR PEOPLE ARE BEING DAMAGED.

Ignoring: If at any time a player considers a weapon or other type of technology/magic/whatever to be unfair, they have the right to ignore that part of my post. If they do this I, if I desire, must be granted the right in turn to either
a: scratch the post that has had all or part of it ignored and repost a different action, or
b: choose to terminate the battle and ignore all or part of the proceedings thereof.
I will not ignore any player for any reason ever. However, I reserve the right to ignore any and/or all of a player's actions if I so wish.
Collateral damage: I reserve the right to deny that I have been damaged either intentionally or unintentionally by players engaged in a battle which I was not aware of or involved in. This right is void if the player who has claimed damage to me approves their action with me beforehand OR gives me the chance to block/retaliate.
