Election in Eredron - Victor Announced.
Per the Constitutional directive in this matter, the term of the current Consul Supreme will end in six months; as such, democratic elections are being held across the country to determine who will become the next Head of State for the Dominion and Principalities of Eredron.
Candidates
F. Drakes - the current Consul Supreme, Drakes came into office following the impeachment and forced resignation of Consul Kell; prior to that, he served as senior Senator in the Senate of Majorities for fifteen years. His administration has focused on the development of relations with foreign powers, as well as pulling Eredron out of its military involvements and commitments.
George McCallister - former General of the Army and current commander of the Eredron Reserves, McCallister has been known to favor strong military buildup over domestic spending. In addition, he wants to increase payroll for all soldiers, as well as boost their benefits. He advocates strong military alliances with other democratic nations to help protect Eredron from foreign attacks.
Thomas Louis - although officially of Eredron birth, T. Louis has spent much of his life in Ariin; as such, he is running for the controversial Ariin Independence Party, which advocates the national independence of Ariin, free of influence from the Dominion of Eredron. A senator for five years, Louis has served in the Eredron Navy, as well acted as an ambassadors on numerous occasions, although his political stances have caused him considerable trouble in the past.
((Poll will last for 3 days))

A riot broke out today at the New Eredron polling center, as members of the Ariin Independence Party clashed with supporters of George McCallister. After a brief scuffle between a small group of men, Eredron police arrived and arrested seven people.

However, fighting again broke out as news of the arrests spread; the capital city's militia force was called in to stop the riot of an estimated six hundred people - the largest riot ever to hit the capital city, New Eredron, in over thirty years.
Consul Supreme Drakes, who is fighting to stay in office, condemend the riot as an assault upon the democratic procress; he has also ordered that security be raised across the nation's polling areas, in order to prevent future incident from occurring.

Fights and riots, this is a REAL election.
Fights and riots, this is a REAL election.
OOC: I am attempting to roleplay the political unrest of many Ariin natives wanting to regain independence from Eredron, as well as add some depth. That is all. As I've mentioned before in my Factbook and elsewhere, native-born Ariin(ians) cannot run for Consul Supreme, so this resentment is also being factored in.

I meant that in a good way, you know you have strong-willed citizens when they'll fight over polls and voting. And it's looking good too, continue.

Sorry, I thought this was a sarcastic remark, like "oh yeah, another guy going to overthrow the government, install a dictator, etc.

Consul Supreme Drakes, leaving this afternoon for a two day state visit of allied countries, can do so without needing to carry too much concern with him over his progress in the current elections for Consul Supreme; across the nation, polls show Drakes holding a steady 66% of the vote, with his opponents both tied with 16% each; however, although Consul Drakes appears confident about his prospects, his opponents have not yet lost hope.
In a conference today at the Ariin provincial city of Kel'los, Thomas Louis criticized Drakes' economic policies, which he said had hurt Ariin's position.
"Drakes has [heavily] favored his own special interest groups...multibillion Mark corporations...at the expense of your[Ariin natives] own economic success and prosperity. This history of giving billions of Marks - taken from the taxpayers - goes back to his senatorial days, when he voted to take control of Ariin beaches out of your hands, and give them to the Kisloe Engineering corporation."
Gen. George McCallister, after a return to Eredron Reserves Headquarters, began a campaign tour of the Southern Region, where he repeated his plans to boost the incomes of all soldiers, as well as offered criticism of Drakes' close ties with communist and dictatorial nations, whose governments oppress the rights of their citizens.
With polls showing General McCallister closing the gap with forerunner Consul Drakes, Thomas Louis appeared on television today accusing Drakes of using his executive powers to order military personnel to block potential voters from entering voting centers; this, Louis says, is what is hurting his chances of election.
"This is just another example of Eredronian bully tactics; my supporters are held at gunpoint. Drakes' storm troopers are keeping citizens from acting upon their conscience, out of fear that their decision will not be favorable for his political future."
Consul Supreme Drakes denied the allegations, explaining that the police and military personnel stationed at the polling centers were there only to prevent further rioting, not to obstruct the democratic process.
Meanwhile, Gen. McCallister visited the capital earlier today to help capitalize on current public support, hoping to make the crucial gains necessary to overcome Drakes before the election ends(tomorrow). After delivering a speech to veterans at Liberty Hall, McCallister presided over the dedication of the McCallister Regional Library, the second largest in the city; named after his grandfather, a political activist and champion for individuals' rights, the library will contain over two hundred volumes and be open to the general public in two days.
Despite a last-minute push to hold his position as front-runner in the elections, incumbent Consul Supreme F. Drakes conceded victory to Gen. McCallister, who held the largest percentage of the vote when the elections were officially declared to have ended. From the steps of the Consul Manor, Drakes congratulated McCallister on his victory, and pledged to support the administrative transition. McCallister will be sworn in by the Justice of the Senate in two weeks.
Meanwhile, Drakes said he would continue to exercise the duties and responsibilities entrusted to him; among his concerns are Genya, with whom tensions have risen again, and the upcoming summit hosted by Credonia, as well as the continued efforts of the space program.
Thomas Louis, who expressed hopes of victory when poll results showed him gaining on his opponents, likewise conceded the victory to General McCallister; in a written statement delivered earlier today, Louis said he would be returning to Ariin where he would continue his efforts for what he called 'Ariin equality, and Ariin nationality'.
