ANN Special Report – “Rods from God”
Magna Casa, Aequatio - Aequatian Military Research and Development have gone to the National Senate in hopes to recieve funding for a program to develop Space-Based Kinetic Energy Weapons which could prove to be much more accurate than most of the GPS-guided munitions in use by the Air Force and have better penetration ability than the "bunker buster" guided bomb.
The several billion-Attan program would create tungsten rods which would be used as ammunition and the necessary platforms in orbit which would fire these towards targets on the surface.
The orbital platforms would be stocked with the tungsten rods (perhaps 6 metres long and 30 cm in diametre) which would be satellite-guided to targets anywhere on Earth within minutes. Theories place the weapon at being accurate within 5 to 7.5 metres and would strike at speeds of 3.7 kilometres per second or greater, enough to destroy even hardened bunkers several stories underground.
Skeptics who stand against the project say that space-based weaponry is nothing more than science fiction fantasy and do not make economic sense. However, the National Senate and the Premier's Office have gone into meetings to discuss the possible future of the development and deployment of these futuristic weapons.
From our national capital of Magna Casa in Aequatio, this is Guy Anderson reporting for Aequatian News Net.
