The Freeing of Cuba( DG is gone, semi-open RP )

07-12-2003, 09:16
The puppet government of DG has collapsed totally, with their remaining military units fleeing the country after local militias rose up to oust them. Havana is ruled by anarchy, but suprisingly there is little looting, most of which is dying out after the old local communist guards, disbanded after takeover by DG, reclaim their weapons(mostly AK-47's) and take up their old posts on streetcorners. They have temporarily set up headquarters in the old Russian embassy, long considered a mar on Havana's skyline.

(It's even uglier in real life)

DNS has landed peacekeepers in the old American Interest section of the Swedish embassy, and is using translators and diplomats to keep track of the population. They are beginning to spread posters of a town hall meeting to be held at the Tribuna Abierta(outdoor rally area pointing at the American interest section, set up by Castro, but no suprise there).

The DNS and Old Communist forces have been rumored to be holding meetings, but no details have been leaked from the alleged meetings.

OOC: This is DNS, in puppet. Cuba is going to be granted protectorate status, with a possible joining of the DNS, but most likely will remain autonomous.

DG is gone, so his holdings are gone as well. As I had some claims to the island, I'm going to be RPing the creation of a Cuban state.

The town hall meeting will be open to RPers that wish to participate, and know something about Cuba's history. But I will have the final say in who can join and who can't.

The Senates were alive with talk of a free Cuba, the imperialists gone. Many, even most perhaps, were worried that the yanks (ooc:or whoever stands in their stead in this part of the multiverse) would simply move back in.

No one was quite sure who held authority in Cuba, who was internationally recognised, and who was honestly in the right.

A few small squads of Gellert Sentinels (special forces/secret police/intelligence agency) operatives were hurridly prepared for the off -if Cuba was to end up in the wrong hands, The People's Commonwealth must have some presence on the ground.

Meanwhile the Commonwealth Chief Consul, comrade Chivo, sent communiqués to just about any faction that might be seen to claim dominion over the island, officially requesting BG be allowed to establish an embassy complex. Further, he expressed the nation's serious interest in buying or renting land, and conveyed a preparedness to compensate the nation richly for any such arrangement.

Beth Gellert fully intends to have a presence at the reported meeting.

(ooc:I hope that's not so unfocused as it seems to me- I am trying hard to be awake this early on Sunday morning *yawns*)

OOC: WA, and BG, both allowed. For BG, we plan on setting up a autonomous state under DNS protection, along with other allies should they wish to help protect. The government will be a socialist democracy ideally, as a union of both the old communists and the newer democrats. But that's up for the meeting to decide. After some other people post I'll make the next IC statement.

Meanwhile in FreeCuba, FBF peacekeepers on the streets of Havana are helping to maintain some semblance of order, aiding the Communist militias in street patrols and organizing their numbers. Military and diplomatic representatives of the Burkinabe troops have attempted to meet with DNS forces to establish communication and cooperation between the two, so as not to step on each other's toes. The peacekeepers are interested in knowing if Drum Gods left behind any useful materials in its hasty retreat, such as military arms or nonmilitary equipment that could be of use in eventually rebuilding a national army and infrastructure.

In the rural communities, mostly not too far outside Havana, small bands of peacekeepers travel between villages and observe and report on the state of order and government there, often finding that communities have taken it upon themselves already to informally elect local ruling councils. Reports are sent back to both Burkinabe and DNS forces to help let them know of developements outside the capital.

DNS forces are instructed to work with the Burkinabe forces. They are also instructed to ferry any representatives to the open forum. They include at least one from ever major town or city.

Most of the materials of the old regime have been taken with them, or looted by communist forces. But there is a good amount of office space that has been vacated, and can be used to set up a headquarters. (take a part of their capitol building, it's almost a carbon copy of the US's Capitol building.)

To assist in the on-going security measures implemented by the interim ruling government forces, the IDF Navy and Marine Corps have dispatched a representative force via transport and patrol vessels.

The force consists of about 300 Western Asian marines and a group of 6 fleet vessels (2, SOCSt2 vessels; 1, Helicopter-bearing Corvette; and 3, Missile Boats. Several small coastal patrol boats and small vessels associated with each vessel are also included.) with their crews. Most of the warships have been kept well out into international waters but the pair of SOCS (Special Operations Command/Control Ships) move to enter Havana Harbor for the meeting.

The Marines prepare to land and help secure the meeting for the Western Asian diplomatic team, but they also bear with them supplies for new police forces, a team of 21 police instructors, and several teams of civil advisors.

As the ships enter the harbor, the vessels radio for permission to dock in the port facilities.

As DNS has taken effective control of the docks, permission is granted. Their leader is requested to meat with the DNS commander, John Vatrion.

OOC: don't be suprised if I miss posting on this thread for a few days. I have a feeling that i'll be very, very busy.

With permission granted, the ships dispatch a pair of helicopters that bear a couple of FASTs (Fleet Antiterrorism Security Teams) to the docks. The teams secure the area as the ships move in and then provide escourt for the ambassadors as their vehicles are off-loaded onto the docks.

The main contingents of marines within the vessels begin to appear only after the ambassadors have set off in their convoy (with FAST-escourts) and mostly focus on organizing the unloading of policing supplies from Western Asia.

The Marines know the area is secured and look forward to meeting with their DNS, and possibly some BG, counterparts. While Force Protection measures are ensured, the marines mostly look forward to establishing some comfortable barracks for their stay.

As the ships continue their deliveries, the diplomatic convoy winds its way through the streets of Havana, lead to their destination by the guides from DNS and Free Cuba.

Bwahaha, I smell a war of African independance.

Perhaps Belem only controls a part of Sudan, and you two can wrangle over it by kicking the living crap out of each other. While I remain a completely neutral, and completely refrain from shipping arms to Sudanese rebels..

Belem and I are actually allies.

And technically, my nation is only based on Sudan..... it's like we live in an alternate world with Maraka instead of Sudan. The population and geography are basically the same, though.

Oh, and I have occupied Mogadishu, the former capital of Somalia.

Awesome. You may use our roads and airspace to shuttle troops, but you may only station them on Naval Vessels off the Read Sea coast.

"Oh hell, we need to get some diplomatic jets!" Comrade Consul Montague Farmer groaned, unknown hours into his Marathon heavy transport flight over the Pacific.
Flying from the Indian Ocean to Cuba at less than 420mph wasn't the most fun he'd ever known.

The huge four engine aircraft draged itself into the Caribbean sky from the south west, a pair of NT4 Hobgoblin air-superiority-fighters in fatigued escort of what turns out to be as many Marathon, the second laden with 108 Gellert Sentinel operatives.

The four Commonwealth aircraft having made their way in to land are disembarked with some enthusiasm for terra firma, and on achey legs the Beth Gellens await further communication.

John Vatrion paces the lenth of his office, partially waiting, but mostly thinking aloud.

"Hm... They(DNS gov't) insisted on a democratic nation... but that will conflict with the communist party goals. Therefore... Democratic Socialists maybe? probably work for everyone involved. They tend to be fairly inoffensive... At least most of the time... A parlimentary body would probably work best for elections... Hm..."

This probably isn't audible to anyone outside of the room.

Consul Montague Farmer is welcomed to Cuba by a DNS military attache, and is asked to meet with John Vatrion at his earliest convieniece.

Within a couple of hours, the Marines have completed the off-loading of their HMMWVs and other vehicles related to their peacekeeping and stability force missions.

As the men complete their mission, the SOCS vessels and their compliment of Special Forces operators withdraw from the dock and head out to meet up with their warship escourts. A pair of Knighthawk helicopters are dispatched from the ships to a temporary ashore station for the Marine forces.

OOC: Bump. I know that not everyone can deal with it now, but just keeping this up.
