Minister Ellman-Fogg Announces Plans to Scale Back Military Spending
At a regular press conference today, Minister Ellman-Fogg announced several new initiatives SeOCC would be taking as part of a revision of SeOCC's role in global political circles. Among those programs announced was the one time expansion of military forces and the subsequent routing of military funds into economic programs.
[quote="Minister Ellman-Fogg"]Network conflicts have shown, time and time again, the ineffectiveness of military force as a deterrant against a foe intent on attacking regardless of the cost. When cornered, when governments feel they have no recourse but to respond to the threat of a good example by force, no weapon or army can prevent this attack because they will believe their existence is in peril.
Based on recomendations from divisions of the Ministry of Politics, the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Social Affairs, we have placed a proposal for the next years military spending infront of the Ministry of Economics, calling for a doubling of the Green Knight forces, four additional Tincture EDW vessels, and 80 modified Scarecrows, paid for out of the EDWD's budget. This will mark the last major military expansion SeOCC will undertake, leaving all subsequent funds to updating of our current forces. The EDWD has agreed to a freeze in expansion of their personnel and their EDW assets, freeing substantial funds to economic projects relating to our increased external trade with IFTA nations.
The Ministry of Urban Affairs has applied to the Ministry of Economics to construct free standing harbor platforms one kilometer off the Bayside Cluster, increasing total dock space by 50%, and a proposal for SeOCC's participation in a pan-Aperin highspeed commuter and freight rail system is also before the Ministry of Economics.
We hope these expansions will strengthen economic ties with our neighbors and allies, as well as allow for greater links with IFTA signatories. If peace cannot be secured then, we hope, prosperity can.
SeOCC and Skargarden Sign Land Sale to Expand Rubicon System
A deal that will sell a 200 by 200 meter plot of land on the northern coast of Skargarden to SeOCC has been completed, after the CACE approved the sale agreement. The land, purchased for an undisclosed fee, will house a Rubicon station, extending the reach of the Rubicon by several thousand kilometers.
‘It never really occurred to us to buy bits of land to put the stations on,’ said an MUA spokesperson, ‘until those nutters from Knootoss kept trying to pry pieces of our continent off. Silver lining, I guess.’
The contract, on file with the MUA and available by request, clearly specifies SeOCC is forbidden from having any weapons on the site, and allows for pop inspections of the site to assure no weapons are being stashed in the installation. The MUA spokesperson explained, ‘This is for our own protection, to assure that no one can say we’re building military bases there. If you’ve got a problem, the Skargardenian authorities can investigate, and naturally find nothing.’
Construction crews and equipment are already being loaded onto freighters for transport; hiring firms in Skargarden to construct the facility was ruled out because of the remoteness of the plot.
