The Taiwanese Rugby team have put in a spirited game, but were still defeated by Timway 28-20.

Coach Christian Cullen commended his team, saying "They're new to the game, and the pressure of World events sometimes gets to them. But they can only go up from here."

Taiwan will play the Australian Marsupial team in the next match.

Scaraba's 29-23 victory over The Belmore Family has Dalaam (Scaraba's capital city) in a state of emergency. The Kneecappers drinking game (wherein all Kneecappers fans do a shot everytime a point is scored) was the prelude to rioting and looting of chain stores citywide. The actual team did participate in this chaos once they returned home, and all the members now have new stereos.

Rugby Team Defveated by 20 points, Lose to Halfassedstates 22-42
The national rugby team got off to an unbelievable start, losing by 20 points to a much stronger-than-expected Halassed team. Jack Lowell managed a try for the team early on into the first half but Michael Humvey missed the conversion, going slightly wide. LE 5-0 Halfassedstates. However, the Ha;fassed team came back strongly with a try and three penalties, to put the halftime score at 14-5 (anyone reminded of England/Australia? ;)) It was a mess in the second half, with both teams scoring two more tries each within seven minutes of the restart, putting the score at 24-17, the conversion made by Humvey, Halfassedstates. A mistake in a scrum led to another Halfassed penalty, which put them up further at 27-17, a 10-point lead. But, within seconds of the restart, good play by the LE team led to another penalty, this time for the LE team, which Dave Furrell converted to lower the deficit, but poor defending allowed the Halfassedstates team to go further ahead, and with seven minutes on the clock, Halfassedstates were ahead, 42-17. A late try salvaged pride for the team, but at the final whistle, Halfassedstates won by a comfortable margin.

Cockbill Street 30-29 Vozvyshennost

Vozvyshennost put up an excellent fight against Cockbill Street but ended up losing by just the one point. Cockbill Street had the better first-half and ended up leading 23-13 at half-time with Vozvyshennost's points coming from a converted try and two penalties. The match looked certain about 10 minutes after half-time when Cockbill scored a try to go 30-13 up. However, Cockbill relaxed and this allowed Vozvyshennost to get back into the match and they fought back to 30-22. Andrey Laidinen then intercepted a pass in their own half and ran all the way to the other end to get the score back to 30-29. However, it was too late and Cockbill hung on to win by the single point.

Seagulls See Off Unpronouncable Nation
Commentator Broke His Tongue After Thirty Minutes

What a game by the rugby team. After putting up such a poor performance in the football, no one would expect the national rugby players to do any better. But that's exactly what they did, and after a splendid performance, the rugby team came out on top.

The front-rowers, Markham, Foul Ole Ron and Cryolite, were especially good, and controlled the scrums and rucks against the Vozvyshennost players. Abramov, Komoltsev and Zhilkin tried their best, but never really managed to grab hold of the ball, and was repeatedly forced back. It didn't help that Robin Harmison had an excellent day as number 8, repeatedly gaining the ball from seemingly impossible situations. And the wingers of course, Yobbo Quirke and Burleigh, had a field day as they ran in three tries between them - two of them marvellous 40-yard-runs. That resulted in a 30-13 lead 10 minutes into the second half, and manager Ironfoundersson then substituted half the squad to give Vozvyshennost the chance. Three penalties gave Vozvyshennost 22-30 with 8 minutes to go, and Andrey Laidinen sent Ironfoundersson worrying with his excellent try. Cockbill Street's props and locks brought the game into control, however, as they controlled the many scrums that were awarded due to rough play in the final minutes, and Cockbill Street pulled off winners with 30-29.

The C-mail ratings: Robertson 6, Burleigh 7 (off 57 Giles), Hammerhock 5, Hill 6, Quirke 6 (off 61 Evans), Vimes Jr. 5, Stronginthearm 5, Markham 7, Ron 6, Cryolite 6, Bull 4 (off 55 Leigh), Chrysoprase 5 (off 59 Cuprous), Detritus 5 (off 51 Porous), Peterson 4 (off 56 Golddevourer), Harmison 6 (off 57 Hoggard).

Final score:

Cockbill Street 30
Vozvyshennost 29

Cockbill Street points: 5-0 Quirke 8 (try), 7-0 Vimes Jr. 8 (conversion), 12-6 Burleigh 27 (try), 14-6 Vimes Jr. 28 (conversion), 17-6 Vimes Jr. 32 (penalty), 20-6 Vimes Jr. 33 (penalty), 23-13 Vimes Jr. 38 (penalty), 28-13 Quirke 50 (try), 30-13 Vimes Jr. 51 (conversion).

Halfassed Rugby team off to a flyer.

The Halfassedstates national rugby side played its first international rugby match for a number of years to-day.
The side came up against a tough looking Liverpool England side in Sarah City in the opening game of Group B in the Rugby WC.
In a stadium much the same size as our own Murruy Park, the Halfassed side seemed quite at home and after conceeding an early try, they settled into the match. Leading 14-5 at half-time, the Halfassed side refused to be pegged back by the LE team and eventually ran-out 42-22 winners.
A slightly flattering score, but one which has got the side off to the perfect start in the tournament.

Halfassed have a rest day next, before taking on Aust on matchday 3.

Heartbreak for Taiwan
Taiwan 25 - 28 Australian Marsupials

With Taiwan's coach Christian Cullen emphasising that "this was a tough game", the Taiwanese team managed to be ahead 12-8 at half-time, due to two tries by Winger Chang Chin Kip.

However, the Australian fitness soon kicked in as the Taiwanese team became exhausted. The turning point in the match was when Number 9 Li Wong was trampled in a tackle and had to leave on a stretcher. It was the end of the Taiwanese dream from there.

Rugby Team Lose Out To Katoa's Fly-Half
Six tries not enough to win the game

Same procedure as last time, just a bit unlucky, and Cockbill Street lose by three points to Katoa. The game started out very poorly, when Katoa's fly-half was allowed to kick three easy drop goals and give Katoa 9-0 up. The Seagulls fought back bravely, but Hill and Yobbo repeatedly failed to tackle the Katoa fly-half whenever he came inside 40 yards, and he obliged by kicking drop goals at will. A couple of tries as well saw the Katoans lead by 29 points to 19 at half time, our three tries being scored by Robertson, Stronginthearm and Peterson.

In the second half, the Katoa fly-half incredibly missed a conversion, due to some very strong winds. Still, two penalties gave them 40 points in total, and despite a further three tries from the Seagulls, one of them a spectacular jumping run by Hill as he skittled past four Katoa defenders, it was all down to young Sam Vimes Jr. as he got a difficult penalty some 45 yards out with a minute to spare. Instead of going for the try and a certain loss, he tried for two points, but the ball hit the upright and sailed wide to the dismay of the crowd. The delight for Cockbill Street was the scrum-play, which was rough and gave away penalties, but more often than not resulted in the ball ending up at Stronginthearm's hands, who could then flick it on for some excellent long runs. The Seagulls have many a good day in front of them, it seems.

Final score:

Cockbill Street 37
Katoa 40.

Liverpool England 18 Nastic 7 - Three Tries and Drop Goal Seal LE's First Win

LE Scoring:
5-7 Jason Lowell (try/14th minute), 10-7 Michael Humvey (try/48th), 15-7 Dave Furell (try/75th), 18-7 Jack Lowell (drop goal/80th)
The team went down to an early try and conversion from Nastic in Susan City yesterday, within two minutes Nastic led 7-0 after a mistake from Humvey assured Nastic the ball just mere inches from the line, and Nastic were up. However, within twelve minutes LE had scored a try. Jason Lowell managed a try after good play by brother Jack ensured the Nastic defence could not catch up. Humvey's conversion went slightly wide, hitting the post on the way. It remained 5-7 at the break after tight defending, but a slip up ensured another try, this time Humvey getting to a good pass by Dave Furrell. Humvey's subsequent conversion went wide again, making him one of the worst conversion-converters in LE history of the sport. But, he missed a third conversion after Furrell's five-minutes from time try, and a last minute scrum led to a slight mess from Nastic, giving Jack the chance at a drop goal which he converted. Full Time, Nastic 7 LE 18.

Koalas See Off Taiwan

AM Koalas 28 - 25 Taiwan

The Koalas celebrated in the best possible style last night, beating Taiwan 28 - 25 to go top of their group.

The Koalas deserved to win, playing the more enterprising style and scoring three tries to two.

Taiwan's winger crossed for his second try to take Taiwan into the lead over half-time (8 - 12), ensuring a dramatic second half but the Koalas ground out a win after the break.

The willingness of both sides to keep the ball in hand defied the greasy, showery conditions, with the Koalas particularly adept at counter-attacking from deep, while the Taiwanese were at their most effective when stringing together quick phases of play.

It was a brave effort from the visitors. Although outplayed for much of the match, they stayed within sight of the Koalas throughout, leading into the break.

The arrival of rain threatened to ruin the spectacle but it had the opposite affect on the Koalas, who played some of their most enterprising rugby in the 15 minutes after halftime.

Scrum-half Li Wong was carried off at that point after falling awkwardly in a tackle, giving replacement half-back Ly In Dog his first test appearance for more than a year.

Prop Tunno Brix scored from close range following a well-worked line-out move mid-way through the first half, whilst the remaining two Koala's tries went to centre Mal Dunnie in the second half. Fly-half Jim Shoelace contributed the remaining 13 points with his boot, missing only one conversion from the left touchline.

Glossopian 17 - 10 Vozvyshennost

Vozvyshennost still failed to get their first points of the tournament by losing 17-10 to Glossopian. Vozvyshennost players will admit that Glossopian were the better side, and have promised a haigher work rate to win at least one game. The first half was pretty equal, with the score at 9-7 to Glossopian at half-time. However, the second half was dominated by Glossopian who scored one try and one penalty to win the mathc.
