Imnsvale Seeks Trade Pact with the Emerald Heights

Imnsvale

On the desk of every Economic Minister/Secretary in the Emerald Heights, lies a document. Stamped with the Seal of Imnsvale on a Linotronic printed sheet the proposal outlines several things.

Imnsvale is seeking free trade agreement with the Emerald Heights as a whole and preferably with your country as well. The Emerald/Imnsvale Economic Interests and Operations (EIEIO) is designed to increase trade between our regions, and hopefully, to allow even greater prosperity to spread.

The trade is to have no tariffs, taxes, or fees of any kind. A corporation is however, allowed to donate money if they wish, but it must not result in favoritism or reduction in service to other corporations.

Contact Master Theos Ensor. You can find him via Imnsvale Information.

We hope you will consider the EIEIO to be a worthy cause and perhaps even to deal with us on even greater terms in the future.

Subject: EIEIO

Dear Master Ensor,

We would be most willing to support a trade pact between Imnsvale and the nations of the Emerald Heights. Both our nations would benefit greatly from a free-trade relationship, as I am sure we both have things our respective nations would like to obtain.

Signed,
Gordon Newell

Transmission to Master Theos Esnor:

The Emerald Heights is not an alliance, and we are not bound by any commonality save our geography and a single mutual peace pact with The RevTerr Alliance. Therefore, free trade with the Emerald Heights at large is an absurd suggestion.

The SLAGLands, however, always welcomes free and open trade with our non-hostile neighbours, and our friends in Imnsvale are no exception. Imnsvali merchants are as welcome as any to try their luck within The SLAGLands, so long as ours are welcome to do the same.

Curse that aide who told me otherwise.

Of course! We would love to have SLAGLandic merchants walking our streets. We'll even pay the way for them.

Good afternoon!
The RevTerr Alliance welcomes your trade pact. Your traders are welcome here, and we will dispatch some of ours to look for commodities.
However, be aware that political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations.

In her office in the coastal city of Tanah Burung, Rosa Almeida reads the offer from Imnsvale. A tad misdirected, she thinks, if they are lookign for any commonality among the nations of this region. The Emerald Heights, some might say, is a land of contrasts.

She fires off a short reply:

Esteemed Master Theos Ensor,

Your message arrived on welcome wings. We would indeed welcome good relations with the honourable land of Imnsvale.

Sadly, free trade between our teo countries would be out of the question. We have recently committed ourselves to the International Fair Trade Agreement, the fastest-growing trading organization we are aware of, and this has provided a substantial boost to our economy. We are inclined to remain with the IFTA, and as a condition of that agreement we can trade only with other IFTA signatories.

We would be very pleased to trade with your country if you were inclined to sign the IFTA. If not, we welcome friendly non-trade relations.

In peace,
Rosa Almeida

We would like more information about this "Fair" trade agreement that restricts trading partners. Could you give us the office to contact? We would greatly appreciate it.

What? How in the hell is it 'fair' if you can only trade with certain people?

Still fuming, he asked his advisor to prepare a response to the RevTerr Alliance, as he did not want to project a poor face onto these fine people.

Transmission: Crist Dragh; Minister of the Exterior

Of course! We would never think to advertise politics there. We will transport your people for free, if you are so inclined.

Honourable Master Ensor,

We have made a choice to trade only with countries that agree to a common code on conditions for working people. We know this trade agreement is not for everyone, but it is the best trade deal for us -- it frees us of the need to seek competitive advantage through sweat shops and the like. More information is attached.*

Again, we are keen for good relations with Imnsvale. Certainly we would welcome tourists, an exchange of embassies, and transportation links. We are very open in all matters other than economic, where we have chosen to direct our trade into certain channels.

Yours in friendship,
Rosa Almeida

While we disagree strongly with the points outlined in the charter, we should not allow this to get in the way of other relations. Would you like to arrange a diplomatic meeting for future relations?

Eniqcir is especially interested in opening trade relations with Imnsvale, given our current economic situation. As was stated in the most recent press release on the matter, the Council of Trade is currently seeking agreements to procure bauxite, ilmetite and/or rutile, coal, silver, gold, gallium, and arsenic. If Imnsvale is capable of supplying any of these materials, please contact us again.

Esteemed Council,

We currently have bauxite, however, if you desire it for the aluminum, it would be far cheaper for both parties to sell you recycled aluminum.

We also have ample supplies of coal and silver. We hope this will be able to meet some of your needs.

Master Theos Ensor,

Bauxite, among other ores, is also used in our aerospace industry for the synthesis of peroxide and pure oxygen. However, if the price difference is of sufficient percentage, other sources are readily available and preferred. Perhaps you could supply an estimate of price per ton and ounce for coal and silver, respectively?

Esteemed Council,

Bauxite - 97 Crellars a ton; 14 Crellari per ounce
Coal - 102 C per ton; 14 Ci per ounce
Silver - 307 C per ton; 5 C per ounce

These our our current market prices, and they tend to fluctuate, but not extremely.

OOC: I have NO IDEA what the proper prices for those commodities are supposed to be, but then again, the Crellar has no comparison to the US dollar either, so I suppose it works out.

Because you are the first nation we would experience free trade, I will come myself and Mr. Broc Ancea, Minister of Economics to your country, so that we can make the agreement face-to-face.

Meanwhile, we are ready to open full diplomatic relations with Imnsvale, thus we have prepared a place for an embassy in Roman, our capital city, and we would like a place for a RevTerran embassy in Imnsvale's capital city. We would like to sign a peace treaty. If you are interested, a diplomatic team and it's full equipment will arrive with us when we get together.

Happy to RP a larger diplomatic summit, although i'd have to be observing only for the economic parts. Some sort of gathering would be a good way to get to know more about each others' countries. But since i'm out of the economic RP, it's not my call.

OOC: Bauxite I'm not absolutely sure of, and your price of silver looks about right, but, going by the currency exchange thread, your coal price is way above what it should be. I'm not sure exactly what it is now, but export price in 2000 was $34.90 per short ton.

OOC: Then pretend he said that. I think coal prices are falling, because people don't want to use coal much anymore, in the real world. Make the prices what you like. :)
