Sithin, capital city of the People's Republic of Spyr (http://www.freewebs.com/strain)
--Associated Press live report--
[a young announcer stands in front of the camera. Behind her in the street can be seen an excited crowd, while beyond them the tall, black shapes of the Spyran Presidential Tower, and Sithin's other tall buildings, form the skyline].
"The nation of Spyr has been consumed with celebration today, as its one billionth citizen was born just before dawn this morning, at the Iyarii National Hospital here in Sithin. A holiday was declared, and as we speak, people are pouring out onto the streets to join in the impromptu festivities.
We take you now to a spech which is about to be given by the leader of Spyr, President-for-Eternity Stephen Strain, from the Presidential Tower."
[the image changes over to a view of the Presidential Tower, where the President can be seen on the balcony, about to begin his speech].
"People of Spyr! You and I have gone through much... through turmoil, through revolution, and now through prosperity. The birth of this child is not significant merely because it marks a numerical milestone... though such is a source of pride, to be sure. Rather, it is significant because we have all come together, we have acted with dedication and perseverance, and now this child can grow up, along with all the other children born today, or yesterday, or tomorrow, in a better world then that in which we spent our youth.
There have been difficulties, but we have overcome them. There may be difficulties in the future, but we will overcome them as well, for as long as we are unified in truth and in purpose, we shall be able to stand firm and build a better world.
I encourage you all to take a moment today to celebrate, and to reflect upon, all that we have achieved in this nation over the past years. Speak to each other, commune with Heaven and Nature, and look towards the future, and all the things we must still preserve, and accomplish."
[the President leaves the balcony amidst thundering applause, and the camera pans down to view the celebrating crowds, as the first of several popular-music bands begin to play]
