An Undisclosed Location, Not Far From the Governmental Square

Two figures, totally obscured by shadow, one waiting while the other walks up, nod silently to each other.

"It is time."

"For what?"

"For him to die."

"Him?"

"Him."

"I understand...he is one of us, though..."

"No longer. The person he once was is dead, replaced by the threat he is now."

"Threat?"

"Threat."

"I understand. Shall I make this public?"

"Yes and no."

"How so?"

"Make it international, a game, disguise it. They'll never know who they're really killing. Except for..."

"The two who know him?"

"The two."

"I understand. Can we change that? The two are sure to come."

"No, it is inevitable. We shall erase all memory of him."

"Him?"

"Him."

"I understand."

To Jack's surprise, he had an email in his inbox, from his usual contract source.

To: Hardballer
From: Morales
Text:
Yo, homes. You got yourself a new contract, standard bounty-hunting stuff. Your mark's name is Agent Nine, check on the enclosed bio for more details. Peace Out.

'I'd better check on Cap'n Blasto, this might be serious...' Jack thought as he secured his pair of .48 Superballers, and his trademark leather trenchcoat with black silk lining.

One night, Dominique, an old rival from a while back and former crime buddy, hears of the bounty. In his home, he loads up his Uzi 9mm., his .45, and takes his Ka-Bar.

"It's time to kill Nine."

He puts on his body armor. He walks into his garage and gets into his Hummer and drives off.

Nine shut off the small laptop in front of him, disengaging from LocHunt. From his brief hacking period, he could see that the Agents had perfectly pinpointed his position.

'So they do know where I am.' He thought to himself. 'Well, of course they do. They're Cyberutopians, after all.'

Nine chuckled lightly at that thought. He adjusted the katana within his trenchcoat and walked out into the streets of San Francisco.

'Then let them come.'

Vorpalis picked up the power cell of her lightscimitar, and cocked her ShadowBolt Assault rifle. "Hunting again. This time the prey is dangerous enough to be a challenge to the best predator. If half of the military reports of that D'nan woman are true, those Agents are fearsome enemies", she said to herself. She put her hand over the scars on her arm and on her neck, memories from her past battles and tortures in the hands of orcs, drow and human alike.

She activated the comlink in her wrist. "Is the plane to Cyberutopia ready?".

"Yes it is, Sire, we are expecting for your arrival", answered a metallic voice from the other side.

Allready on board the small private plane, reviewing the first and second message from his "employer" he opens the small overhead compartment. For though Betty and Ann had been his favorite and most trusted weapons he knew its always good to have a few other options than another pistol duel.

Looking inside he found a few "standard" items. M-16 assault rifl, flashbang grenades, frag grenades, assortment of short blades, blow gun with a case of five poisoned darts.

Taking the added equipment and placing it into his duffle bag he sits back to enjoy the rest of his three hour flight.

Looking back towards the screen it keeps flashing over and over...

vorpalis landed in San Francisco in a normal looking plane. "Using a space dropship in the middle of a human city could be dangerous", said the flight authorities. She just came off of the human plane and opened her luggage. "Ellösar cloak, progressive knives, light scimitar, ShadowBolt light assault rifle. Armoured Wraithbone vest, Thermal visor, reinforced helmet. I think I brought everything".

"Any calls from Cyberutopian authorities?", she asked to her wrist comlink.

"Not yet, just stand by, they will appear soon and give you the rest of the briefing...I hope".

Vorpalis' comlink crackled suddenly, and a rush of white noise washed over her. The noise dimmed slightly as a voice spoke, but never totally dissipated.

He has not, however, contacted either of them. And we're not allowed to tell how many are hunting him. It makes it more fun, you know?" The voice told Vorpalis, sounding amused at the end.

---

"Nine? Heh, Nine's got allies everywhere, kid." An old bum, slumped against the alley wall, told Dom.

---

Luther told Jack that Nine had set off for San Francicso. Luther had also been confronted by several shady characters asking him about Nine. Something was odd about Luther though, like he had been forced into something, and he muttered something under his breath about being watched.

---

After his bountiless search, two thugs approach Jack. They look down at him with a hard stare.

'Hmm, new guy. No challenge.' He thinks to himself with a wry grin. 'Never trust the data.'

Overlooking the stark city skyline, a lone man stands atop a low rooftop, his black leather-booted foot on its edge. He looks up at the gleaming towers of glass and steel that make the canyons of this concrete jungle.

He is a tall man, with the broad shouldered build of a powerful warrior. He wears a long black overcoat over matchingly black sweater and jeans. He has reddish skin, indicating along with his beaklike nose and broad jaw his Mesoamerican Heritage.

A wind blew his silky, shoulder length hair up, its raven black strands trembling in the wind, while the long tails of his coat flapped like a black banner. His full lips pulled up in a smile.

This city teemed with life, jampacked into its stony recesses. It was not all that different from his native jungle, mused Chataka. It was said this man, this Agent Nine, was an experienced hunter in his own right. Perhaps, if this Agent Nine was a powerful warrior, Chataka would not return him for collection of the money. It might be more worthwhile to drag him back to the Temple of the Sun, to rip out his heart and sink his teeth into its still-beating flesh. Chataka would see.

Shifting his weight forward, Chataka suddenly tumbled off the roof ledge, his coat flaring behind him as he dived to the curb two stories below. Landing in a squat atop a stretch of bright cloth over the entryway to the building, Chataka gripped his hands around its edge and flipped off, landing easily on the paved street below. People stopped and gapped at his acrobatic display. He favored them with a knowing smirk before beginning to stride along the street.

This city would yield him its secrets, in time. Part of being a hunter was being patient. Chataka would wait for just the right moment to strike, but when he struck, he would only need one opportunity.

((*claps* Very nicely done.))

Three men dressed in expensive-looking business suits and dark sunglasses walked down the street. No one who passed the three Japanese men expected them to be some of the most highly trained special operations troops on the planet. The three Agents made their way towards not Nine, but to Jack instead. For now, all they would do was wait, until the moment was right to pounce.
08-12-2003, 07:26
Standing at the curb, Chataka watched the three dark suited men. Acting on an instinct no civilized westerner would understand, the Aztec ducked behind an ally and quitely began to follow in-step behind the trio.

"Now, where can I find my mark?", she asked, checking her vest and her weapons, each one looking more strange tan the other.

"Hmm, yes..." Zenji said, fingering the cloak. "Ah, right, back to Mistah Nine. Elfy lady always business thinking. Very well, follow Zenji."

He handed the cloak to one of the door guards and hobbled into the luxurious house. He led Vorpalis though a long hallway decorated with many ancient scrolls and weapons, humming out of tune. Finally, they came to an office. Zenji plopped himself down behind an ornate desk.

"I hate to lose such a good assassin, but sometimes I fear he is too ambitious, hmm...much like you. Anyway, he has feelings of dissent for all, and none of that shall be tolerated by Zenji. Very angry man, he is. Hmm...let us see..." Zenji said as he typed on a computer. "Hmm...I have not talked to Mistah Nine for many days now, very quiet, he has become. He knows others are watching him, other Agents, far more powerful than him, far more powerful than you, too. Hmm...even Zenji's great influence on many things cannot stop them from their goal. A free bit of advice for you, elfy lady, stay away from the other Agents. Cold they are about killing all in their way. Come to me, they have, to all the underworlders they go, intimidating, threatening, dealing. Hmm...yes, uneasy it makes us all."

All this time, Zenji had been checking contacts rapidly, coming up with nothing. He sighed heavily and pushed on.

"Disappeared, Mistah Nine has. Hmm...he does that often, but never so thorough. Indeed my suspicions were true, indeed Nine's endgame is at hand. It happens to us all, it does, someone will want us all dead at some point or another. Hmm...back to the old ways, we must go. Technology cannot rival good contacts." He said, continuing his discourse.

His bony hand picked up an ancient-looking phone, covered in dust. Zenji blew the grime from the reciever and dialed a number slowly.

"'Ello? Ah, put Gonzalez on the line. Who am I? Listen, boy, just put him on the line before I have to come down there and talk to him personally, you puny maggot. About time." The old man said into the receiver, a slightly annoyed tone in his voice. "Gonzalez? Is that you? Good. Listen, we need to meet briefly. 20 minutes. You know where. Ok, goodbye."

Zenji hung up the phone and made his way over to the office door. He opened it for the Elf, and followed after her.

"You are free to do as you wish, I will contact you when I have the information. Like Zenji said, it is no simple task to find a seasoned assassin like Mistah Nine. How can Zenji contact you when Zenji finds your prey?" He said as they walked, soon reaching the front door.

She quickly reached her thigh, pulling out a little comlink. "Take this, it can only reach a frequency, my frequency. Call me if you have any news", she chuckled, as making fun of something. "Another thing. You told me to stay away from the Agent's way. How could I recognize them?, or are they just normal people?", she asked, grinning at the man in front of her as she rubbed her chin with the palm of her hand.

"I'll take a little trip on the rooftops of the city. Oh, and I know you don't fear me, but I need to tell you that if you doublecrossed me, or just plainly took me for a fool, I'll come back and put your head in a lovely pike. Nothing personal, just to take care of my own reputation", she said, now smiling...

"Hmm...impossible to identify, Agents are. He would imagine they would all be of Cyberutopian ethnicity, and much like Mistah Nine, but you never know. They can mask themselves expertly, so the ony certain advice Zenji can give you is keep your eyes very open." He told her gravely.

At her threats, the old man just nodded and smiled, as if he had heard it all before.

When she had left his house, Zenji scowled and muttered bitterly, "Damn arrogant Elves. Only person I hate more than someone like that is an Agent. Damn Agents, too. No good, they are. Only ones keeping me from running this forsaken city. As soon as Nine is dead, they will leave me, and perhaps my goals shall be realized."

The two tough-looking men got into a black sedan, and motioned for Jack to get in. They then pulled out into the street. After a long, meandering route to shake off any followers, the car stopped in front of a run-down bar. The two thugs got out and waited for Jack. They seemed to have become more nervous, giving awkward glances at the bar and down the street occasionally.

---

Zenji waited on a bench in an out of the way corner in Golden Gate Park with a bag of stale bread. He tossed a few bread crumbs on the ground and watched as the birdsd gobbled them up. An impeccably dressed Mexican man with a long ponytail of jet black hair walked towards Zenji. The small Japanese man tossed four crumbs on the ground, the signal all was clear. The Mexican man sat down next to Zenji.

"I need you to find Nine." Zenji said quietly, not looking up from the birds around them.

"Very well, Sensei. But it will cost you a lot." Gonzalez whispered back, while taking out a newspaper.

"Your payment will be both of our safety. As long as the Agents are looking for Nine, we are not safe."

"Yes, that is true. I will get on it, Sensei. You will have Nine's lugares preferidos soon."

Gonzalez folded up his paper and walked away at a brisk pace. A few minutes later, Zenji left as well.

As Gonzalez walked down the street, he looked up at the trees, admiring how they could still look beautiful even stripped of their leaves. That distraction sealed his fate. A hand darted out from an alley and yanked Gonzalez into it. The last thing the crimelord saw was three Japanese men in business suits and mirrored sunglasses standing over him. One pulled out a silenced pistol in a smooth motion. He smiled grimly, and then everything went black for Gonzalez.

"Oh yeah, him. I heard he's got a handsome bounty on his head now. A lot of wannabes have been coming around here looking for him, just asking to get killed. I can help you take him out, but there has to be something in it for me. I don't know if you've been in 'Sisco a lot, but nothing's free in this city."

Jack shakes his head at the man's comment.

"I ain't lookin' to kill him..."

He lays one of his .48 Superballers on the table.

"The wannabee's are what I'm after."

Hawke places his elbows on the table and folds his hands in front of them.

"I see. In that case, I don't see why you're wasting my time. If it's just a bunch of amateurs you're after, there shouldn't be any problem with that." He said, and leaned foward slightly. "Correct?"

Jack reholsters the weapon.

"That's where you're wrong. I want to get in contact with him, and find out what he did to get so many of these punk-ass bitches on his ass."

Jack leans back in his chair, a cold look in his green eyes.

((Lol, punk-ass bitches? I seem to use that phrase all the time when I'm joking around.))

"Oh, pretty much everyone knows the reason by now." The cultured young man responded. "But if you want to ask him yourself, he'll give you a much shorter answer."

Hawke offered the mercenary a lopsided grin at that comment.

OOC: Perhaps I'm rubbing off on you.

IC:

"Would that answer be about 9mm's long?"

Jack retorts, with a slightly more evil grin.

((Perhaps. I really wish that everyone else didn't leave. The true purpose of this thread (if you understood the conversation between the two anonymous characters at the beginning), was to erase Nine off the map, along with the two people he's ever been in close contact with (Jack and Dom, obviously), but I'm not sure if that'll work anymore.))

"I see you know him well." Hawke replied with a grin not unlike Jack's. "It won't be hard to find the hunters, though there are a couple who are quite skilled."

OOC: Perhaps you could BUMP it up a bit, and increase the intrest factor? I could do that later on tonight, I'll be on around midnight or one o'clock.
I can also supply some hunters, if you wish. I've got an extensive list of extras...

OOC: I'm still waiting for response, or at least an appearance of Nine...

((Ael, you could have your character find Zenji, or find the body of Gonzalez, who is quite well known, so there'd be no mystery about him or his demise. Though I often don't hope a character will do a certain thing, I do hope your character will find out about the other Agents being around, find out about the conspiracy against Dom and Jack, and take a certain stance on it. I'll let you in on something. You don't have to, but if you do side with the Agents against Nine, Dom, and Jack, it will be a big bonus for something that I have planned for later, a massive conspiracy. As I've said before, I love being the mastermind. :D As for Nine's appearance, he will start popping up a lot once Jack finds him and this gets busier.))
