The Empire National Defense Department is in need of a new cruise missile design. Specifications are below:

Primary function: anti-shipping cruise missile
Weight: 2,000 - 4,000 lbs.
Speed: 1100 mph
Length: no more than 22 ft.
Width: no more than 3 ft.
Range: up to 750 miles
Warhead Yield: 1,000 - 3,000 lb.

Other needs:
In-flight reprograming and control vectoring from base
Multiple target system
Able to attach boosters for added range
Multi-spectrum radar guidence system
Low radar signature to avoid detection (as much as possible)
Low to surface flight capabilities

Winner of contract will have R&D expenses paid, plus able to keep the design for own use (obviously), plus $500 million prize.

Missile Flight Characteristics

Range :- 1200 km approximately
Flight Speed :- Mach 1.1 (cruising) Mach 1.9 (Target engage mode)
Standard Flight modes are:-
Lo-Lo (Surface skim to target, engage target at surface level)
Hi-Lo (High Altitude flight to target area for maximum acquisition, Enter target area at Low altitude)
Lo-Hi (Surface skim to target, Climbs and dives for better penetration of weak upper armour)
Hi-HI (Hi Altitude Cruise to Target, Engage from height for armour penetration, (also bomblet release)

Notes:
The Marlin Missile has several types of guidance. The primary guidance system is usually G.P.S. with constant flight correction from base via the same secure satellite uplink, secondary inertial modes include, Optical Recognition, GeoMag, and Starscope. An active homing system can also be utilized as the Marlin is equipped with a high frequency LIDAR system for target acquisition out to 80 km. Flight correction is also possible out to horizon range, using a tight beam laser transmitter.

The Marlin itself comes equipped with an E.C.M. and E.C.C.M. system for dealing with threat evasion and target acquisition. If in a high threat environment, the missile's guidance system comes equipped with advanced threat evasion algorithms. In the case of the original target not being available, the Marlin has secondary target acquisition capabilities.

The Utility Warhead Package has three 'swap and change' warheads for use in different enviroments
Armour Piercing:- This is a double stage Shaped Charge Warhead for use against heavily armoured targets
Fragmentation:- This is a high explosive warhead with fragmentation area effect for use against soft targets
Bomblet dispenser:- this warhead dispenses small shaped charge terminaly guided bomblets for use against multiple small scale armoured targets.

The Missile Pod that the Marlin is stored in is a self contained environmentally sealed unit that keeps the missile in a Ready-Fire Hibernation mode, with a weapons cycle to fire time of 120 seconds.
The pod also acts as the firing platform for the missile, needing only to be attached to a suitable launch system.
Launch systems available range from single canister for small Boat and land installations, to multiple Vertical launch systems for the larger craft.
The Pod is also capable of being attached to a Subroc system for submarine launch.

ANA does not condone the use of Nuclear weapons, unfortunately the Utillity Warhead Package does lend itself to modification quite easily. :wink:

Thanks for the offer Raysia (yeah, I know you weren't), but the amount of damage caused and the destructive size are not what we are looking for. We'd like more precision for taking out ships, and will modify the size of the package ourselves to deal with large amount of ships, if need be. However, for now we are thinking only of enough to destroy a single ship.

ANA, we understand your position though you don't need to worry. IP has no WMD of any kind in its possesion, nor are there plans to develop them in the near future. We detest such mass weapons that do more harm than help, and as such shun them from our supplies.

Quite impressive Sebytania! Though we are now wary of you and your massive weapon. However, from the pictures of the effects of the missile, the yield is too powerful for our purposes. We only wish to sink ships, not total destruction on our enemies, for we do not wish horrible death and destruction even on those that would so on us. However, we wish to inquire about the missile you used to deliver such a terrible blow: what are some specs of it? We don't intend for you to divulge everything on the missile, just a few things like max yield load and speed. No picture is needed either.
