Xikuangese Economy Highest Yet, Continued Growth Anticipated

For the first time in the short history of the Serene Socialist Republic, the economy has been rated by UN analysts as 'Powerhouse', the highest rating to have been attained by the nation as yet. Continued positive development for the Xikuangese economy, at a time when many other nations are facing economic slump, and fears of recession are abundant.

Chair of the Elected General Council for Economic Affairs, General Councillor Zhe Xexin, comments:

"As most will be aware, the economic slump that many nations have been feeling is substantially attributed to the Rights of Labour Unions resolution recently ratified by the UN. Of course, since we have always respected the rights of labour unions, that had no effect on us at all, and as CACE members, we are protected from price-hikes and trade slumps in the wider world. But that should only mean that we should have been able to maintain our previous Strong rating stably. The steady rise we're seeing now is directly attributable, I think, to the increased market base with which we have been presented after the ratification of the International Fair Trade Agreement (http://invisionfree.com/forums/CACE/index.php?act=SC&c=5), following the recent Third World Solidarity Conference (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80768&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=efd4930bf3dc6f9084878c47c01d07e7) and wider IFTA presentation. Trade relations with Tanah Burung, made possible under the IFTA, have been particularly profitable for both our nations: their rubber industry has had a nice injection of funding, and the trade primacy for that product has been a vital boost to our automotive industry."

"We are immensely pleased with the Tanah Burungian product." says Qiye Dhondrup, manager of Xikuang Automotive Productions, Zhin-Dao Province. "The rubber is hand-tapped and processed using sustainable methodology, so the product is exceptionally pure, a real bonus for our R&D teams. Right now we're looking at ways to reduce rubber evaporation from tyres, so it's important that we have consistently high quality material to work with-- as well as for the actual manufacturing of finished parts."

The rise in economic power has been very much felt by average citizens, and various industries are booming, though some with less success than others. "We're trying to promote the Greater Spotted Beetle as a delicacy internationally." says C'akli Dzijexin, a member of the Elected General Committee for Agriculture and Meat Industry. "For some reason people just aren't interested."

Rosa Almeida, people's representative for economic affairs, almost chokes on her orange juice as she reads the news release. Xikuang? A powerhouse? Looks like we bet on the right horse after all.

She dictates a short statement for the press:

"Some criticized us for signing the International Fair Trade Agreement. They said it would hurt our economy. Instead, we have made profitable new trade ties which are already pulling our country out of a deep recession. All without opening a single sweat shop or felling a single tree."

Early morning, somewhere in a quiet Celdonian terrace...

Khitai read the Tanah Burungian press release-- rather, he struggled to read it, as the small grey cat who considered him hers had alternative ideas about where his attentions ought to be focused-- with satisfaction. "It seems Tanah Burng is recovering well." he says. "That's excellent. They've always been good friends."

"Which reminds me," comes a disembodied voice from the kitchen, "that you haven't taken a single holiday in over a year. I'd quite like to see Tanah Burung."

"H'mn. I wonder if they have any of those 'watermelon' things the Biotopian representative was talking about the other day..."

ooc:
excuse my dumbness, but is it not forbidden for CACE nations to have commercial interaction with nations outside CACE? Or is Tanah a member?

I think I'm coming down with something.

There's also quite a bit about it if you had followed the Developing Nations Conference. It's been the big CACE project of the last month or so, although it is now owned by its members and not CACE.

At the moment the IFTA covers 66 nations with a population of 59.474 billion people.

For those interested in such things, CACE membership is running at 45 nations with a combined population of 42.418 billion, and the IFTA figures include CACE members. As you can see though, our markets have expanded quite considerably since the launch of IFTA, and hopefuly soon the CACE members will be a minority.

Information on IFTA members can be found here (www.redfrenzy.com/treaty_db.php).

Now now, Biotopia. Capitalist nations are welcome to sign the IFTA if they are willing to adhere to its requirements. Cappies can trade fair, soo.

It's only evil capitalists who should worry.

As implied, Tanah Burung is not a member of CACE. We are trading with CACE countries through the International Fair Trade Agreement.

First we’re not communists.
Second the sudden drop in economic ranking is a surprise to me, I put it down the ‘economic issues drought’ that I have been under for two months.
Third: Excuses aside I think the facts speak for themselves.

We're a corporation...the economy is our only standard of judgment. Social rights and political freedom are nice to have, but not a priority. :D

But I gotta admit that your population must be somewhat happier than mine, obviously. But this is all ooc sucking up...

But then your productivity, and thus your profits, would go down. Besides if you are a corporation, where do your worker live? And where do they go when you fire them?

Besides if the very peak political and social ranking are actually counteractive [the become negative] don't you think that "All-Consuming" and "Frightening" are actually negative economic statuses, although for you this may be an exception, so that’s just a general question.
