A great crowd had assembled on the main square in Amsterdam. The entire city had been decorated with flowers and colourful banners. Food and beer stands were scattered all over the city. The government had provided coupons for free drinks and even Pink Bunny Cola was giving away drinks for free. People ate and drank and had fun. All the local bands had taken to the streets and were playing joyous songs.

This was a time to be merry and forget all misery and hardship that had become the Knootian people. That they it seemed as if there was no chaos, no instability, no impending doom. That day it seemed as if there truly was a united community.

Knootian purple-white-blue flags flappered in the morning breeze, placed high on the towers of the former churches turned art galleries and museums. The “Westerkerk” tower had been wrapped entirely in purple cloth.

From the party boats that were touring the canals guests from all over the world could see huge banners that covered the walls of the houses along an entire street.

“Welcome 1.000.000.000th Knootian”

Knootoss joins the billions club

The old Royal Palace stood firm in the rising sunlight. Its colourful brown bricks had survived the centuries. Duchies, Kingdoms, Republics, Federations and now the DDR had not changed its nature. The great crowd had assembled to see a balcony-scene that was about to take place.

Three eurofighters in delta formation swooped low over the crowd and left behind them colourful trails of purple, white and green.

And high up there on the top of the palace, the door opened to the main balcony overlooking the central square. Cheers went up as the leadership of the Dutch Democratic Republic slowly appeared. Prime Minister van der Laan waved and gave out hand kisses. Behind her stood the ministers and heads of the army. ‘General’ – now Marshal-general – de Kaste was wearing his dark green military dress costume. Galadriël wore a special Elvish dress, which was white as snow…

OOC: I remember when you started the game and got into a war at only 300 mil wasn't it?

Evening had come in the Dutch Democratic Republic. And the hardy Knootians staggered home from a long day of celebrations and wild partying. The whole nation succumbed to the drug-induced happiness of the national festivities. This had been a joyous day, and such bliss was scarce in the tumultuous world of the NS planet.

But that evening there was a secret meeting in one of the many backrooms in The Hague, the centre of government.

State-secretary Galadriël Táralóm nos Cirdan had gotten out of her snow-white garb and was now dressed in casual black. She was angered. “We cannot trust them. They are nothing but evil. Foul Orcs who will betray everyone. I know the Dark Lord. I have known him for many, many centuries.”

The dry, sarcastic voice of the Defence minister replied: “My dear colleague, even your High Elentari Sirithil appears to disagree with you. It has started already. We cannot and therefore should not stand against these forces. They are like a tidal wave that no dyke can stand against. We can only hope to ride it out now.”

Galadriël’s eyes flared up and she cursed the fat human seated in front of her in Quenya. You moron! This Evil has corrupted your mind. I should have known this. Greedy are men, and easily fooled. Will you do anything for power? Is there no limit to your hunger for it?

She noticed that the other members of the Council of Ministers were all looking at her and she sat back in her seat.

The elf nodded that the meeting should continue and the Defence minister went on, using the military jargon with the innocent contentment of a man that had never seen actual combat. He was pleased with himself, content and convinced of his superiority.

As the human droned mindlessly on about strategy Galadriël plotted silently. ”You will see the end of that power that has been bestowed upon you. That gluttonous lust that has become the driving force behind your life. I will take the ministry of Defence. Such power should be reserved for those who can handle it properly. Knootoss will not fall to the shadows.”

The New Separatism is pleased that the Centrist Third-Way Economic policies of Knootoss have paved the way for a decent standard of living for all 1 billion citizens within Knootoss. You have our heartfelt congratulations.

A small dropship, the same design as hundreds of others in the Thelasian Star Navy, landed at a Knootian millitary base, five elves walked out, all in civilian garb, they quikly boarded a embasy car, driving twoards the Knootian Capitol Building.

The luxurious embassy car pulled up in front of the huge ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. The ministry seemed to be a small city in itself. A testament to the Knootian bureaucracy.

Long ago, during the shadow war, the ministry had been hastily evacuated before the Thelassian and TST armoured divisions had overrun the complex. Today, the civil servants coming in and out of the building paid little attention to the Elves. Elves of all kin came in here all the time, Knootoss was a friend to many Elvish nations.

As they walked through the front door, they noticed a small security sweep was done to ensure that they did not carry any weapons...

The Edge of the Sol system

Any monitoring stations on the edge of the solar system would note blue streaks of light coming out of warp. Origin: unknown. The approach vector seemed to be totally random.

The path they had taken from the secret Vortex Corporation base had been long and elaborate, hopefully enough to elude even the most persistent spy.

Several small mercenary ships of different kinds appeared, but what was behind them was much more interesting. The ships were towing ships – large ships. Even the untrained eye could recognise them for what they were. Large, blocky and bulky gravships, bearing the colours of the Melkorian battlefleet.

The first gravship to enter the sol system was the frigate KGS Macht en orde. But the signature had changed now: the nameplate read “Hammer of Doom” in an ancient Arda tongue.

More ships followed, and when the huge flagship arrived space seemed to ripple for a moment. The Melkorian-built battleship had been redubbed the “Flame of Doom”. After a signal from the admiral, the group was set in motion. A total of fifty gravships – all that Knootoss possessed - began moving for earth in box formation.

After the Shadow War as it has been called, our relations have been cold at best, some times, openly hostile. I, and my delegation have been sent by Commander Netari to try and repair relations between our two nations, and as I am speaking, we congragulate you on your breaking of the one billion mark."

The Thelasian diplomat nodded, “As I have heard, our embassy got egged last week.” The ambassador smiles, it is incredibly hard to tell whether he is being polite, or is truly happy, “An offer you say, well, it happens to be that I have been authorized to offer you a great gift. As you must know, seeing how Menelmacar seems to share intelligence, that Thelas has been building a massive new Grav-fleet, composed of Sea/Air/Space capable vessels. We noticed that in the Shadow War, Knootoss could do little to hamper the supplies coming down from the Star Fleets in orbit, and would have been defenseless if the Dominion forces decided to launch an ortillery attack. We offer you this, a full Thelasian battle fleet, composed of out latest class of warship.”

Galadriëls eyes begin to glimmer: "Nice. Very nice. I like it."

Her fingers seem to dance on the table as she drumrolls on it once...

"But such gifts do not come cheaply. But what do you want in return?"

The Thelasian ambassador smiled again, “You are as sharp as always. Well, we wish for two things, first, a singing of a mutual defense pact with Knootoss, second, a by-national base, built two hundred miles off of the Knootian coast, staffed by Thelasian and Knootian soldiers, and scientists. This base will have a staff of ten-thousand men, and one hundred thousand soldiers, along with two thousand scientists. This base, not only will is serve as a powerful defense point against GDODAD aggression, who I believe still have a military base of off Knootoss, but also as a research base that will benefit both of our nations.”

Galadriël frowns. Too bad. That rules out the shiny fleet.

I am afraid that isn't an option. Firstly, it wouldn't be practical to built all those islands off our coast. One is quite enough. And secondly relations are still not good enough. The Knootian people would never allow it.

How about a counterproposal? We establish a joined research base - no soldiers - in a more neutral spot. Somewhere in the pacific? It would not be percieved as a tactical threat there....

Nonchalantly, hoping to catch the Thelassian ambassador off-guard she asks: "And what do you think of the EOTED situation?

“The research at the base will probably be anything and everything, from research on new AP weapons, to research on how to best develop new vaccines for non-Elven usage.”

When Galadriël posted her question about EOTED some of the officers shifted slightly,

“Well, you see, we are slightly worried about this mobilization, as some of our cabinet members have pointed out, this could be just a military exercise, but others have pointed out that this could be a prelude to war, and with EOTED withdrawing from both The Triumvirate of Yut and also from SATO. We are obviously concerned. Another delicate matter, is that Aelosia has been acting up, The ShadowPrince has banned all Humans from entering Aelosia, and while I can understand this, some other nations may not.”

This will really cause a change in the power structure, with Knootoss no longer hostile, EOTED on the war path, and our relations with the GDODAD some what stable, we are in a good position.

Carrier:

The Thelasian Carrier is a massive affair, twice the length and height of a RL US Super Carrier, the Thelas Main Fleet Tactical Support Fighter, or TMFTSF is the largest of common place Thelasian battle weapons. Lightly Armed, the Coscare (The command ship of this fleet) is armed mainly with anti-missile Point Defense Weapons, designed to put up a curtain of weapons fire around the valuable fleet ship.

Pocket Battleships:

These two ships were deigned to meet the need to a fast ship that could carry more weapons than the common battle cruiser. The MFSB, or Main Fleet Small Battleship, is armed with,

Battle Cruisers:

The Battle Cruiser is in all forms a smaller faster version of the Pocket Battleship, designed to fly ahead, with the fighters, and sweep away larger targets that the fighters could not destroy. Heavily Armed for their size, the FSB, or Fleet Support Battlecruisier, is capable of reaching up to Mach Five in the atmosphere, and is equipped with Slipstream drives and Hyper drives for intersystem usage.

The Frigates:

The Frigates were designed as the Thelas Fleets’ main close-combat warship. Unlike the Cruiser (Detailed in Next section), the Frigate Concentrates on Cutting Beams rather than missile tubes. Just as fast as the battle cruiser, the Frigate is much more maneuverable, able to run circles around larger ships, and able to obliterate small vessels.

The Cruisers

The Cruisers were built as Thelas’ long range warships, built to out run larger warships, the cruiser is capable of running at Mach 7, while peppering those vessels with missiles, the cruiser is the best long range ship in the Thelas Navy.

The Destroyers

The Destroyer are the work horse ships of the Thelas Navy, capable of running at Mach 6, the Destroyer is a fast and deadly vessel. Concentrating on AP weapons, the destroyer is especially deadly against smaller fighters and corvettes. The warships’ fast moving cannons capable of tracking all but the fastest of opponents.

OOC: Long story, a LOT of those weapons are small, each "torpedo" is about five feet long and about ten inches wide, the torpedo tubes are only about 3 CM larger, those AP cannons are also small. The main weapons load comes from the anti capital ship cutting beams.

OOC: I accepted the treaty as a cease-fire/armistice agreement, but I still refuse to recognize what was the "Dominion's" claim to Funfair Island, and still go about my own business concerning Knootoss. After aal I am not a member of either the Dominion, SATO, etc. so the rest of the treaty really doesn't hold much value to me. If you still want to press the Shadow War, I assure you at the moment I have money, men, and resources to burn. I just finished the most massive military buildup in my nation's history since we ended the Outer Dominion Wars.

The Thelasian ambassador nodded, "Yes, I see your point, the fleet was a gift in case you were wondering, but I think my government would not object to a joint reaserch base being built in the Pacific, and what do you say to the mutual defnce pact?"

Galadriël thinks for a moment, and she frowns. The implications of this could be great. How would this shift the already delicate balance of power, she wonders. Peace has so far been preserved, but trouble is brewing everywhere. Rising tensions. The conditions for war are created in peace, and we should be assured of a good starting position if it comes. When it comes.

"Well, we are still kin and should draw together around the light. I think I could plead a good case for you in the council of ministers and later on in parliament. The fleet gift would of course be very... persuasive. She grins slyly.

"As do the base, I do not think this will pose a problem. What kind of research did you have in mind?

Nonchalantly, hoping to catch the Thelassian ambassador off-guard she asks: "And what do you think of the EOTED situation?

“The research at the base will probably be anything and everything, from research on new AP weapons, to research on how to best develop new vaccines for non-Elven usage.”

When Galadriël posted her question about EOTED some of the officers shifted slightly,

“Well, you see, we are slightly worried about this mobilization, as some of our cabinet members have pointed out, this could be just a military exercise, but others have pointed out that this could be a prelude to war, and with EOTED withdrawing from both The Triumvirate of Yut and also from SATO. We are obviously concerned. Another delicate matter, is that Aelosia has been acting up, The ShadowPrince has banned all Humans from entering Aelosia, and while I can understand this, some other nations may not.”

This will really cause a change in the power structure, with Knootoss no longer hostile, EOTED on the war path, and our relations with the GDODAD some what stable, we are in a good position.

"Indeed, this could pose a significant problem. We have deep ties to both sides of the conflict, both our loyalties to the SATO and YuT nations and economic interests in the Empire.

However I'd like to work out the conditions of our Defence pact. As you know, alliance entanglements form a significant part of of the diplomatic problems in the NS world. I would suggest that we limit the mutual defence clause to mutual enemies. I'm thinking about alliances here: the CACE; the Reich; Arda....

”Yes, of course the CACE, Arda, The Reich, and the GDODAD will be included, but as you see, our world changes very rapidly, nations that are friendly one day may be hostile the next. In light of this I propose an addendum, with consent of both parties, this treaty may be amended to include more ‘parties’ whether they be friendly or hostile.”

The Thelasian Ambassador sat and thought for a minute, “We need a name for this treaty.” The ambassador continued to think, “The ‘Treaty of Knootoss’ sounds good to me, how about you.”

In the mean time another one of the delegation had been busy typing away at his data-pad, he slid the pad over to the leader, “It seems one of my companions has drawn up a draft.

In an effort to repair relations, to stabilize the world around them, and to create an alliance that will benefit all parties, these nations have come together to provide for mutual defense and trade.

By hereby signing this treaty, all parties hereby agree to,

a. provide for the common defence against here mentioned alliances/parties.
i. Arda
ii. GDODAD
iii. The Reich

iv. The CACE

b. To establish a joint research base in the pacific
c. To open up trade with a signature parties

This treaty may be amended by a consensus of all signatory members.

Actually, we could make point c) more specific. I would like to call for a 50% reduction of any tariffs that might be in place.

And I’d also like to add a point d) that other nations may join this pact at a later time if they wish to do so. I fully agree with the treaty on all other points.

As for the name, we make a lot of accords. So the Knootoss accord would be a little strange for our domestic media. I’d like to call it the ‘Leiden accord’. We can sign it there, it’s an old university city a few kilometres outside The Hague.

She scribbles the addendums on the proposed treaty and hands it to the leading Thelassian.

"Yes, this is wholly acceptable.". When asked about thirtycaliber she nods: "Well, please excuse me." and she picks up the phone.

She has a rapid, forty-second conversation in some foreign language over the phone. Then, she puts it down and smiles at the Thelassians:

"Well, I don't think that would be a good thing: while some of the terms overlap there are some differences in the pact setup that we would like to retain. So I would prefer it if both pacts remain seperate.

She stands up from behind her desk and extends a hand: "It's been good doing business with you."
