Attention nations on Mars
The Eastern Bloc

The Eurydian Republic is interested in purchasing a bit of outer space in orbit of Mars. If any nation would be willing to sell roughly 500-600 km^3 of outer space to us, it would be greatly appreciated. We will purchase, rather than lay claim to any orbiting territory. We feel that a pissing contest would ensue and the 30 nations would claim to own the space. Therefore... we are going to buy it.
The land will be used for an orbital space station. The station will be focused on commerce and trade as well as diplomacy. The station will have no offensive or defensive weaponry, although one War-Cruiser and 100 fighters will be stationed there for safety reasons. This station will not be a staging ground for an invasion, nor will it be an orbital mining facality aimed at stripping Mars of any natural resources. This is merely a way for us to get more involved with things going on in the Sol System.
If any nation's interested, please give us a quote as to how much the area asked for would cost.

Why bother? We would be pleased to rent a portion of Phobos to you, Emperor Traiden. Pinnacle Base barely takes up half of it, and we would also aid you in building the docks.

"An interesting idea," the newly made Sky Marshall thought to himself. "Perhaps to protect the empire from Sol interference...we should interfere in the Sol system as well..."

Your offer is generous, and greatly appreciated. I must decline however, for the station has already been built. The station itself is an artistic masterpiece, and will help people to better undestand the Republic. Also, the station and surrounding space would become sovereign territory of the Republic.
Still, if you own space in the vicinity of Mars, we would be willing to purchase that from you. If you do not, thank you for your kind offer nonetheless.

*bump* for exposure.
I'd like to get this thing started tonight, if possible.

*sigh* So, no takers? I guess I'll have to come up with something else then.

We of the Guilds would be happy to sell you space in the Ring Belt. The space junk is a bit heavy there, but nothing the two of us can't handle. Of course, if you station is especially large, or has delicate projections, you would want to keep it in the thinner sections.

You mean to say the station would be amongst... garbage? Your offer is indeed kind... but is there somewhere else where we can put this station? I waould hate to be placed amongst trash... it would give a very bad look to the "FarStation." We are willing to pay top dollar for something in a more clear area.
I hope you can oblidge to my request.

Not garbage, exactly. Lots of ice and rock. It's very pretty, but just slightly hazardous in the denser areas.

By international law, orbital space is free. No one may own it.
Also by international law, nations "own" waters up to a certain (debated) amount of distance from their nation...usually 5-10.
It is therefore reasonable to assume that wherever you place a permanent station, you "own" space 5-10 miles away.
At least, thats how Wazzu interprets international law in free space.
As a nation with colonies on Venus, Earth, Luna, and Mars, and as a nation with permanent station presences around Venus, Luna, and Mars, Wazzu has no problem with The Eastern Block building or moving a station into Mars orbit.
Indeed, we feel that The Eastern Block should be wary of any nation that claims to own or sell space as all space is free.

Hmmm... An interesting point Wazzu. Perhaps you are right in your interpretation. It would be much cheaper to just claim a bit of space in orbit of Mars.
Hmmm, your offer was very generous Space Guilds, but we weren't really aware of international law as it pertains to free space, at least space within the Sol System.
It is settled then, operations to bring the Farstation to Mars will commence immedietly.

Those silly Wazzuians! And we almost had a deal! Meh. They say there's a sucker born every minute, but what they don't tell you is that there are plenty of honest folk to fill them in before you get to swindling 'em! Oh well.

Message to Eastern Bloc:
"Bajon would recommend you claim an area over the nuetral oceans. If that is not suitable, your next best bet is to simply position the station near Mars, but not in orbit."

OOC: For a current map of Mars, go to "The Planet Mars" region, and go to the link in the factbook. On the site is the current "official" map of Mars. (Its terraformed :D )

OOC: Terraformed... my goodness. A lot has changed since I left Sol.
Well... yes then... I'll make sure to claim something that won't get in the way of anything. In the thread about me moving there, there will be plenty of opportunity for nations to voice objections and whatnot.

IC: We would allow you to build a station over the Mizer 3 province of Mars, as long as it isn't basicly a floating gun platform. Other than that, you have permisson.

IC: Your offer is accepted. The station is far from an offensive weapons platform. I'm sure it will actually be quite the wonder to your people once it arrives.
Thank you.

(OOC: That would be rather difficult, as Mizar isn't on the equator. If you want it to stay in one spot relative to the ground, it must be on the equator. Otherwise, it'll wander all over, and there ain't a darn thing you can do about it.)

We would be willing to allow the Eastern Bloc Station to be put into orbit above our space. If you are willing we would like to integrate it into our orbital defence system that protects the space above Martian Pilon.
OOC: Yes, this is going to be mean but it will benefit everyone this way...

As you can see, there is a large green blotch on the equator. This is Yggsdril - the World Tree. This tree is essentially a living space elevator that is potentially going to be the hub of the Martian transportation network. We would suggest the station be placed somewhat out from this point. Doubtless other stations will move there as well to provide trade services - the potential revenue is enormous.

OOC: The fuel req.'s would make it entirely impractical, and Mizar is definitely not large enough for it to always stay over your land.
OOC2: Near Yggdrasil is good, but be sure to check with the Snel first. : )
