Read "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli. Read his passage about mercenaries, its all you need to know.

Since they ultimately are not fighting for your cause, mercenaries are known to cower before mortal danger.

If you're spending money on troops, best to train them and make them real soldiers. Mercenaries are to real armies like security guards are to street cops.

We use the KTTP clausule. KTTP stands for Kill The Third Party. Basicly, we seriously hurt their wives and children if they try to weasel out.

A Merc Corp is good if you don't want to do anything yourself; absolve yourself of all guilt ;)

Of course not. A mercenary can be BOUGHT, remember? So if you offer them enough money, they will ALWAYS reveal the name of their employer.

I offered mercenaries once, but no one was interested. Basically, I view mercenaries as people you hire if your own people won't fight for you.

Or if you don't want your people to fight.
