Nationalists Win!
In an unexpected decision, and one which is expected to impact hugely on the business community, the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) announced it would form a coalition government with the centre-left One Nation Party (FGD).
The incumbent Chen Shui Bian of the Taiwanese Independence Party (DPP) is expected to resign over his party's poor showing in the polls. The DPP has been plagued by large-scale protests, especially from the rural community opposing his plans to life tariffs.
The KMT victory is expected to benefit cross-strait relations with China, and will result in an influx of chinese migrants and investment. Pauline Zhang, head of One Nation, has also begun the process of reunification talks.
