Duel between Edolian and Teritoran champions

Edolia

Background
Anti-religious comments made by the foreign minister of Edolia, Matthew von Pickett caused the King of Teritora to take offense. After issuing a declaration calling Edolians 'barbarions,' the High Prince of Edolia and brother to the Imperator, Hubertus von Blatterschplitt challenged the King of Teritora -or any champion willing to fight in his place- to a duel in the traditional Edolian style; naked warriors fighting with daggers. The Teritoran declined, instead demanding that the duel take place with full-plate armor and broadswords -the traditional style of Teritora. Hubertus von Blatterschplitt, a man well-trained in many forms of martial combat, agreed.

Rules
The battle shall take place on a small, uninhabited island 1,500 kilometers off the coast of Edolia. It is less than a square kilometer in area and not claimed by any nation, nor it is named. Thus, no national laws will apply to this combat and no national or international, governmental or private bodies may take action as a result of the duel which will be, of course, to the death.
The arena will be 10 meters by 10 meters, surrounded by a ring of stones and covered with sand. It will be outside at noon though a thing tarp will cover the arena so that neither combatent will gain an advantage from the position of the sun.
Each warrior will furnish their own armor which may be made to the specifications of the wearer so long as it covers all of the warrior.

<<I would like to get a confirmation that all this is acceptable (we discussed it via telegram but I added a few things) from Teritora before we begin the RP.>>

OOC: I thought of doing a duel type thing a while ago...but I couldn't think of a way to apply it...

Best of luck...I'll definately be reading this one!

Oh. I would like to add one point of protocal for the RP:

Each side will RP the actions of their combatent during a relatively short period of time and not include details on the behavior of the opponent. This is probably obvious but I think because of the specific nature of this RP, it will be more difficult to avoid accidently dictating the actions of the opponent.

(Example in case I'm not making sense: "Hubertus von Blatterschplitt swung his sword in a large arc, driving his opponent backwards. Each time the Teritoran put his shield in front of his body, barely protecting himself from the vicious slashes of the Edolian warrior." Not good. How do I know that the Teritoran defends himself? Perhaps he allows his heavy armor to get hit in order to get in a few blows of his own. In other words, don't assume. And let's try to keep it going for a wee bit [not just five posts and boom, it's over].)

Indeed, they are in full armor and sheilds, they be at it for a while and they will realisically take breaks to catch their breaths at the same time before going at it again. Theres some sort of signal for that but I don't remember what it is.

<<OOC: Have you read Le Morte D'Arthur Mallory? It's a great book; the definitive book of the Arthurian ledgends. About 500 years old too and written in Middle English. Anyway, they talk a good deal about jousting and duels and such.>>

And now for the RPing...
Hubertus von Blatterschplitt was tall and then but well-muscled, his face handsome but containing a strong spark on intelligence. One of the most trusted advisors to the Imperator, he is also known as a compulsive liar and schemer. As his small, military-grade long-range speedboat arrives at the island, his small entourage carries his armor to the shore and begins to help him into it.

In the armor, Hubertus is still more intimidating. His armor, combining the most state-of-the-art metal-working technologies with ancient tradition is light, mostly composed of steel, titanium and a strong, light composite called Sevilium. The inside is lined with Kevlar and that material binds most of the plates together. The plates protect him fully but the armor is complex, built with his range of movement in mind and allowing him maximum dexterity. Instead of gauntlets that would generally be used to lock a sword to a hand, Hubertus has thick leather / Kevlar gloves -"for dexterity" he says. The shoulders of the armor have small spikes placed along the ridge and the left chest guard is seperated slightly from his armor and closed with a leather strap, allowing Hubertus to quickly detach it from the armor to shed weight, eliminate damaged elements of the armor that are impeding his movement or for some other reason if necessary. The outside of his shield is painted with the colors of Edolia.

The Edolian approaches the arena, standing straight and tall in his armor. He draws his sword from its sheath; it is most certainly a broadsword but has an unusual curve, reminiscent of the famous Edolian battle sabre.

Hubertus von Blatterschplitt pauses and turns towards his opponent. "Perhaps it would be best if we had our entourages leave any firearms in their boats? We don't want any assassinations."

<<OOC: Alright. Let's get this RP on the road... BTW, who is your champion? I would assume that someone else is representing the king.>>

OOC:No I haven't read it; but if I could find it I will. As I recall all Plate Armor was build for a full range of movement and there was two types, Battle Plate armor and Tournament Plate Armor which was much heaver and more limiting as it was soppose to be more protective because of the danger of the tournaments. A knight in normal plate armor could even do a cart wheel in full armor. The Ideal is being as protective without being resrictive of movement as possible.

"Indeed. That would be wise."

Prince Voren Tor Asha, The King Champion, simply put was tall even for a Teritoran who average height was around 6'10". He was 7'2", well muscled and much quicker than he looked. He was Aslo an extremely intellgent and honorable man who was a very model of what a knight should be and like a knight was a master of all melee weapons. He arrived by speed boat a few minutes earlier.

He was alrightly wearing his armor and he wore it like it was nothing, this was do in part to the fact that Teritoran nobles always wore their armor as a matter of culture... and for protection also in Teritora duels could start at the drop of a hat in Teritora so they needed to be protected. His armor looked something right out of a history book however the Plate armor made to stop bullets on the battlefeild, normal plate armor could stop a single bullet from a combat rifle, Vorens armor was made to stop up to a 12.7 heavy machine rounds for period of time and was the normal for plate armor allowed maxium protection with out limiting his movement. It was made of including an unusually strong, light weight type of steel alloy that was extremely unusally strong and extremely durable to the point that Teritorans concidered it much better than titanium and it was a Teritoran state secret on how it is made Voren says.

His shield was on his right as he was left handed and had a Red doubleheaded Wyvern painted on it, the Emblem of his house. He used a Classic Broadsword, meaning that it was light wieght, perfectly balanced and extremely strong and hard for the blade to break which was the norm for all broadswords.

<<OOC: Forgive me for not posting earlier. I have been away and hadn't realized before that I would have no access to a computer. Anyway, here we go...>>

Hubertus von Blatterschplitt was considered a tall man, nearly 195 centimeters tall. But next to this... giant he was tiny. Hubertus stood before his opponent.
"Well met. I believe that we should get this show on the road."

Hubertus stepped back, bringing his sword and shield to positions of combat, waiting for his opponent to make the first move. He knew that the Teritoran was bigger, stronger and most likely more skilled in this style of fighting than he was. Hopefully, he would be able to use speed to his advantage. Hubertus smiled. And of course there was always his little surprise...

OOC:Thats alright.

"Yes let us get going in this matter of Honor."

Voren Tor Asha readied himself into a combat stance himself and studied his opponent while reading for an attack. his opponent was likely counting on speed, which Hubertus would soon find out that Voren was much faster than he looked due to his size. Of course his opponent being an nonTeritoran, Voren didn't know wither he would have some dishonorable treat up his sleave but Voren had some surpises of his own just incase and non of them could be concidered dishonorable if found out. It was simple commonsense to do so.

Hubertus readied himself. Darting forward quickly, he made an experimental lunge at his opponent's body but keeping himself on battle and prepared for a counter-attack, ready to study his enemy's reaction. He would need all the speed and cunning he could muster if he was to defeat his opponent.

<<OOC: I would suggest, to speed this up, that we allow the other player to RP each person a wee bit so long as the first player lets the other know how his guy is fighting. Like this...>>

Hubertus would fight defensively at first, testing his opponent's reflexes, fighting style and speed.

Voren blocked quickly and then moving faster than it seemed possable for someone of his size he made an lightning fast overhand attack, He was testing the defenses, the speed, fighting style and the skill of his opponent, at least what his opponent was willing to reveal at his point using the simplier skills of his fighting style he wasn't going to put to much effert, not at the begining. He was merely testing the waters like his opponent would or should be doing.

Hubertus blocked the strike, allowing the force to be absorbed by his shield and arm. Edolian martial arts emphasized the strength of the arm so it did not hurt -too much. He swung his sword inward at his enemy's side in an attempt to force him to move his shield. After that, a good kick to the ribs could knock his opponent off balance, followed up by a number of good jabs of the sword...

There was nine schools of martial combat in Teritora, 7 decented from knightly combat, the other two were the arts of the Nikja and the RSC. Voren used the Asha style of martial combat in which sparated itself from the the other knightly schools in that its practicners devopled great endernce and to take great punishiment to out last an opponent of equal or even greater skill. Ashans Nobles tradionsal hunted the great dragons of Teritora and needed great endernce and ability to take great punishment. Voren didn't bother to block with his sheild but instead made a feint like he was going to bash his opponent with his sheild and followed up with a strike at Hubertus's helmeted head before returning to his defensive stance.

Hubertus' sword struck the Teritoran's side; he hoped that it had at least bruised some bones. Suddenly his opponent's shield was moving towards him. Hubertus jumped back, his feet coming out from under him as he allowed his back to hit the ground with his shield out over his chest, blocking the over-hand swipe at his head. For a moment, Hubertus considered upping the ante. He shook his head. It was too soon. The fight hadn't been going on long enough. No... he would have to continue on. Hubertus pulled himself to his feet, studying his opponent. It looked like the fight would be a defensive one for both members. That might help. Panting slightly, the Edolian prince waited for his opponent to make the next move...

Voren wasn't even panting yet as he proded his opponent with a simple series lighting fast attacks to the uppper and lower body of his opponent probing his defences. He had hardly felt the earlier blow though the armor and padding. Its wasn't time to up the fight just yet but he would test his oppenent before the fight really got going.

Hubertus leapt backwards, using his speed and agility to keep away from the strikes, darting to the side and parrying blows when they got too close. Despite being badly outclassed in terms of size, weight and skill, Hubertus had one main advantage: his fighting was far less traditional than his opponent's. As the Teritoran continued to press forward, Hubertus suddenly leaped to the right and towards the sandy ground, swinging his sword at his enemy's legs and bringing his shield up to protect his own side.

Hubertus groaned as the kick connected with his body but instead of attempting to get up, he rolled with the strike across the sand, using his shield and sword to block the second attack. As the prince picked himself up, he felt the pain of the bruise that his opponent's kick had given him. He thought again... Is it time? No. Not yet. Hubertus waited, watching his enemy's movements. Hubertus again lunged forward with his shield, moving as if to bash his opponent. As he closed with his enemy, he menaced his opponent with his sword; a slight of hand. His right leg came around in a sweeping movement along the ground as he attempted to trip his opponent.

Voren other than bracing him self momentarly didn't take the bait instead he went on the offensive again using yet again some simple sword manuvers and combos known the world over sometimes striking at places that would cause any opponent to wince back instentively, he could take some punishment after all. The dual hadn't even really get started yet, they were just testing each other and holding alot back.

<<OOC: I should point out that due to the height of the Teritoran, he probably wouldn't be able to block such a low strike without seriously exposing his body to another attack. But I'm not going to dispute it for the sake of continuing the RP. I just thought I'd point that out.>>

Hubertus fought back, mostly taking blows on his shield or parrying with his sword. But, even so, far too many blows landed on his armor and he dealt back too few. His opponent was good. Very good. But he was so... predictable. He used some of the world's most famous maneuvers, many of which were known to the Edolian prince. Edolians pride themselves on ingenuity and cunning. Hubertus von Blatterschplitt is no different. Again, he makes as if to feint and lash out to trip his opponent... but this time, he does not move his foot, instead continuing on with his shield bash. So far his opponent had been very good at detecting feints. Perhaps this time Hubertus would be able to trick him.

Voren was caught but surpise but recovered grunting slightly. He grinned, he had been led into complaceny, he counter attacked this time with some lightling fast maneuvers and vicious combos common to all the 7 knightly Teritoran styles but nearly never seen outside of Teritora. It was time to up the fight a bit.

Hubertus was thrown back by the new barrage of attacks. The fight was indeed becoming dangerous. Nevertheless, Hubertus fought on, ducking and weaving, slashing and parrying. Again and again, he used his much smaller size as an advantage rather than a weakness, striking at the legs of his opponent, either with his own limbs or with his sword, protecting himself with the sturdy shield which now showed signs of stress, pieces of it hacked off by the unrelenting attacks of the Teritoran knight. Suddenly, Hubertus stepped back, out of the combat.
"Perhaps, friend, it would be a good time to take our first rest before we continue this... contest?"

Hubertus rested. The battle was difficult. He was losing, there was no doubt about it. He reviewed his options. Standing up, Hubertus replaced his helmet.

Voren nodded, it was time for this to end, no more holding back, he replaced his helmet, readied his sword and hoped his opponent would not do any thing treacherious even though he had a few defensive surpises prepared just in case. It would really hurt his opion of what had been so far a honorable foe.

Hubertus moved foward cautiously. He had analyzed his opponent's defenses -his weaknesses and strengths. Unfortunately, there were too many of the latter and not enough of the former. Hubertus shook that last thought from his mind. His enemy was tall... very tall. That meant that Hubertus had a an advantage when attacking below. His opponent had an advantage when striking from above. Hubertus shifted his shield, moving it so he could more easily strike at overhand blows. And low strike by his opponent would be awkward and easily parried. Hubertus moved forward again, into close combat range of his enemy... quickly, he shifted from foot to foot, obviously preparing to make an attack at one of his enemy's sides. Which one though... He leaped towards the left. His shield held to cover him from attacks from above, his sword darting at his enemy's side, his left foot sweeping at the Teritoran's feet... It was a ruthless attack... Hubertus hoped it would work...

However Veron saw the double attack coming and at the lost moment moved back out of the way quickly then just as quickly counter attacked, this time there to be no holding back but instead going all out to win. Everyone of the attacks were vicious, fast and highly coorinated attacks stright from his school of fighting with 20 years of skill behind them and none of the manuvers he was using had ever been seen outside Teritora.

Hubertus stumbled, catching himself before he fell. As his enemy surged forward, Hubertus dodged to the side, moving with the speed that his small size and very flexible, light armor allowed. He dashed away, towards the edge of the ring. He stood, waiting for his opponent to come to him...

Voren instead of a following took one of sevearal stances of his school that at once seemed strangely relaxed yet wasn't, in the old Teritoran tongue this was called these "Jerexia" the wyvern, they used an opponents speed and greater manvorabity, manvorablity to its advange and turned that against the opponent turning those into a weakness.

Smiling beneath his armor, Hubertus dropped his sword and shield to the ground. "You are indeed a superior swordsman," he began. "But..." he began as he quickly tore off the leather straps of his armor's pocket <<OOC: Remember the little pocket? ;)>> revealing a 9mm pistol... "Swords aren't very useful in this day and age, are they?"

Hubertus fired six shots into his enemy's chest, stomach and head before turning around and bolting for his boat.

<<OOC: Lesson: Edolians like bending the rules. That's why we duel naked; so we can't hid guns in our clothes.

So you didn't kill him, came close with that head shot though.

Voren called out as he rose from the ground. "Bloody coward." Voren sighed with relief, his armor had safed his life, but that head shot came close to killing him. The other two shots didn't even pentrate the armor but if he hadn't of had his helmet specally desioned and reforced in case of being shot in the head, he would have died."

Voren chuckled and boarded his boat and via Satallite phone called the king who chuckled himself. "Really he didn't know that even a Medival peice of Plate armor could stop a 13mm bullet from an Combat rifle much less a 9mm pistol bullet, its a good thing you reforced your helmet however. Oh this good. I wonder how dear Hubertus is going to take being a laughing stock in Teritora and other countries for going though all that trouble and not knowing that. This good." Voren hung up as his boat headed back to Teritora while Voren sipped some wine. By the next morning the story was in the newspapers in the humor section and people got a good laugh at the expense of Hubertus, there were even Politial Cartoons making fun of him and his actions at the duel.

OOC:Yep the best sort of revenge.
