In military news today, the New Interplanetary Republic of Xanthal has cut it's Armada size considerably, from 250 fleet vessels to 162 fleet vessels. This is due in large part to the simultaneous retirement of both the Super Andromeda and Carrier vessel classes, which the Republic labled obsolete and unnecessary.

Yeah, the SA was a poorly thought-out idea on the Armada's part. The whole idea was, since we had no real warships, to build a warship as quickly as possible. Naturally we used an existing blueprint: The Andromeda class. This was stupid, because that design was never cut out for battle. We ended up with a big, unmaneuverable lug with guns on it. It just didn't work. The Andromeda class works well as the Andromeda class, not much else. That's why we still build new Andromeda class ships today, but haven't built a Super Andromeda class in decades. It was dumb to begin with, the introduction of real warships made them instantly obsolete. Still, fleet ships aren't exactly the kind of thing you just throw in the trash, that's why it took so long to remove them from service; we wanted to wear 'em out first.
