Council of SteamTech Nations (CSTN)

25-11-2003, 14:24
Ok there has been a few threads popping up about steamtech/steampunk as of late and so I thought that I'll create this.

Really an alliance for steamtech/steam-bias nations, possibley a list as well.

It can serve a use for nations wishing to do steam based rps.

Thoughts and comments please.

OOC: Although I am not a Dreadlands or Crimson Skies gamer, I do like the look and feel of steamtech settings. I was a big fan of Space: 1889. ;)

My nation, Metzengerstein, isn't necessarily steamtech, but it could fit into the genre. Metzengerstein is based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe, so its definately gothic Victorian in feel. As I said in one of the other steamtech threads, Metzengerstein is more creepy and less scientific, and would more likely be home to Jack the Ripper, Frankenstein's monster, and the like.

I will watch this thread to see how things develop, though. I might join your region, if you think I would be an interesting addition.

A very good proposal indeed. I have considered this idea of an "iron league" before, but did not take the initiative on it.

Currently, it seems that there are quite a few steampunk nations out there (as far as I am informed, there is SteamEarth, Vladisvak, Raysia and Tarvalak). However, the general NS enviroment leaves little place for such kind of collective roleplaying. Making a stablished group of SP nations will create solid ground on which to begin a true steamtech setting of considerable scale. And it will allow other steampunk nations to raise a voice as well.

We would gladly join this group.

What do you say to a region just for steamtech nations?

Thaenor, my original region, was intended with that purpose. But I have made another with a more fitting name (The Iron League). Steampunk-related nations are invited to join. It will certainly be quite usefull for all of us to be located in a region that shares our common settings and goals.

Poe based settings fit perfectly. Steampunk is far more than just smoking machines and lots of iron. It involves all of the intrigue and mystery of the XIX century, ranging from the dark murders in old London's black alleys to famous bloodsucking vampires from far Eastern Europe.
There is room for all you base your nation on, and much more.

On a side note, Vladisvack has offered to create a map for the region if nations move in, so we can have the proper roleplay. He has done several maps for his main nation's region (Vladisvack is a puppet nation intended to Steampunk roleplay). I think we should consider the idea.

I applaud the idea of cartography! The borders of Metzengerstein must be thoroughly delineated before an accurate census can be taken.

Metzengerstein is a northern, mountainous land with a harsh, rocky coastline. Its forests are primarily evergreen. Off the coast of Metzengerstein is the Maelstrom, a violent whirlpool that has been a danger to shipping and an impediment to trade. Because of this, the easiest means of travel and commerce in Metzengerstein are via airship and rail. The history of Metzengerstein is one of violence and a barbaric Inquisition, and to this day the land is dotted with crumbling castles of gothic architecture. Once mighty strongholds of brutal physical and psychological torture are now in ruins, however, and the people of Metzengerstein are trying hard to forget the atrocities that took place there. One lingering horror from days gone by is the disease of the blood known as the Red Death. Metzenger scientists are working on a way to combat this dread affliction, however.

The capitol of the Constitutional Monarchy of Metzengerstein is the city of Valdemar, located in the Ragged Mountains. The ruling body is called the House of Usher. Our currency is the poe, which features the likeness of our first king and founder, Edgar. Our national animal is the black cat, and the national bird is the raven. The national insect is the gold bug.

Although one of our chief industries is "soda," we prefer to think of it as "Amondillado wine." A fine drink with a nice bouquet that is highly prized among all those of genteel and noble distinction. Likewise, our industry of the manufacture of escapable caskets -- designed to aid those who have been prematurely buried -- was erroneously reported as "pizza delivery." Our apologies.

I hope you mean an OOC alliance... if it was an IC alliance we'd have no one to fight :p

Raysia is a Modernish Crimson Skies type nation... well at least it's leaning towards that. Right now it runs a lot like Coruscant on the modern scene :P

I'd join this region... btw, check out this new thread, you're all welcome to join the RP:

Steamtech is a spinn-off from Steampunk, which, in simple words, is science fiction, placed on the late XIX century, the Victorian Age.
Steampunk and Steamtech both share the superadvanced technologies of steam/coal powered machines as it's center. However, Steamtech has the difference that it can be mixed up with fantasy, something that Steampunk does not.
