Induction Tournament, for new forces in international soccer

Kaze Progressa
24-11-2003, 21:40
Kaze Progressa feel that the best way for new nations to be ready for the heat of international competition is to prepare, and the way to prepare is to gain experience. An Induction Tournament is therefore being held in Kaze Progressa for eight willing nations for whom World Cup 10 is their first. KP will provide the referees, venues, etc... but not participate (as they are not a new nation to international soccer/football) - so there is fairness here.

As Kaze Progressa will know, the Cockbill Street team is new to the world of NationStates and thus to the exciting world of sporting tournaments. They would be happy to join a football tournament, especially one arranged by our friends of Kaze Progressa, but refuses to have anything to do with the non-existent sport soccer.

Repent now!

Eh, KP, new nations only, or can I enter one of my clubs?

The Ice Paladins, needing tourney experience, glady seize this oppotunity and sign up.

(roster can be found in the WCX roster thread)

It's new nations, though with the slow pace of signups club sides to fill the gap might be useful.

And CS, you can call it football. :)

seeing as we are a very new nation indeed we would be honored to sign up for this soccer tournament. For a nation with only 5,000,000 people we have some talented individuals in this fine sport. We would be very grateful if you were to accept out application to this tournament

OOC: KP, I think it was an accident - or possibly Simultania want to live up to his name by posting simultaneously ;)

Anyway, remove the question mark. We will accept the spelling of football for now.

(wow...is that duodecal post? I'm much impressed! EDIT: nevermind, he added more! <-- *Is even more impressed*)

"An introductory tournament, eh, Cunningham? I'm sure Rivie would be all for that!" said Underminister Sir Gregory Penns-McCormick, signing up the Iansisle Ians.

"We're doing WHAT!?" shouted Lord Riveran from the practice field, just barely managing to keep from beating his head against the nearest blunt object.

Seemed like it was spelt OK to us :?

Anyway, being new to international football, though not a new nation, we would like to enter this introductary tournament, if at all posible.

...in fact, we are so new to international football that we didn't quite make it to the WCX qualifiers. If only the government hadn't all gone to a regional party and got absolutely stone drunk for such long periods of time, they might have alerted us sooner, but to no avail. However, we have applied for WCXI.

Would it still be possible for us to enter, or is it strictly WCX nations only?

You are still welcome. Getting a bit of practice before the World Cup is very much useful.

I have a house move in two days, and I have no idea how much time I'll be able to get on the computer (having a laptop sure helps :)) - but it will certainly happen, although I may ask another nation (Belmore?) to generate some or all of the results.

Just editing the list of nations now. :)

REPORT FROM NEWI NEWS

STEVENS READY FOR START OF INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN

NEWI Cefn Druids’ coach Trevor Steven is confident that the induction tournament in Kaze Progressa will be a good learning curve for his team. However, he also sees it as a tough challenge.

Said Steven, “Our players have never experienced international football before, so this tournament should bring them some experience. Even though we did not make it to the World Cup 10 Qualifiers, we consider the tournament an important strategic step in the development of NEWI Cefn Druids football. Hopefully, by World Cup 11, we will have a considerable amount of experience to challenge for a place in the final tournament.”

“Even though this is not a tournament featuring any of the established top teams in the world, we will be taking it extremely seriously, as we expect our opponents will too”

Stevens recognises the quality of the newbie nations will be relatively high. “It is difficult to know how good the teams in the tournament are, in the same way it will be difficult for them to know about us. From what our scouts have told us, we will have lots to worry about. Fortunately, we have avoided the favourites New Montreal States and Iansisle in the draw, but this doesn’t mean we have three easy matches.”

“Cockbill Street come across as a potentially successful nation, while Never-Setting Sun are in the same boat as ourselves, not being at WCX, and will be as eager as ourselves to have a successful campaign here. Also, if the reports coming out of Simultania are to be believed, then they could be a dangerous prospect.”

But the team are ready for the challenge. Stevens says of them, “They have been practicing in our Plaskynaston Lane Stadium for years for a chance to play someone, but instead of playing international matches, the government’s internalisation policies meant that we could only get the best club players from around the country together for practice. Now that the situation is different, we are looking forward to our first international match against Simultania.

• Chief executive of FANCD, Trevor Simon, has stated his pleasure at simply being allowed into the tournament. “This is a great leap forward for us,” he told reporters. “For example, our national stadium currently only holds 850 people. To be playing in stadia of 50,000 seats, whether they are full or not, is going to be a new experience for our players and fans”

• Developments are underway in attempts to develop a FANCD website. FANCD communications director Evan Davies told NEWI NEWS that such a project should be in place before the beginning of the induction tournament.

Coach de Fabre enthusiastic about tourney

Coach Luc de Fabre of the Ice Paladins is supposedly enthused about the upcoming pre-WCX touney.

"Frankly, we'd love the chance to gain experience. Between this and the friendly with EB we'll be more than ready for the qualifiers."

"Granted, it will be tough beating Ianisle, they are a very good team. But if we can stick with it and be tough, then we should be able to fight our way to a good showing against them." he went on to add.

Just realised that WCX proper starts today. Earlier than I planned. :O

I think I'll have to call it off, sadly... for now. Instead, I'll hold the event with the same teams simultaneously with WCX finals. (As a rule, newcomers don't qualify barring horrid mathematical miracles.) This could go hand-in-hand with the Cup of Harmony for the best non-qualifying RPers, possibly with CH hosting it this time. That way, we prove KP and CH can host big events, regardless of whether or not the decision on hosting WCXI (which we're trying to co-host) is made by then.

Orean Utd Reserves would replace Jaurania, but they're a club side. However, I will allow any interested nations to play friendlies with them. NEFI Cefn Druids (who aren't taking part in WCX) could be the first. :)

Meantime, get RPing and good luck in WCX!

OFFICIAL FANCD PRESS RELEASE

Due to the delayed start to the NEWI Cefn Druids' international football career, the FANCD has decided to focus more on the development of its domestic league structure.

However, we would like to invite any nations looking for a bit of practice to come to NEWI Cefn Druids for a friendly match. We welcome teams of all qualities and varying experience, though tickets will be in short supply, as the new national stadium is currently under development, so games are at the 850 seat stadium at Plaskynaston Lane in Cefn. The new national stadium, which should be ready for the World Cup XI Qualifiers, will be the 6,500 seater Trevor Stadium in Trevor.
