On the dawn of a new day, the new Redemption Class Scientific Vessel, the Amerigo Vespucci, was launched from its berth at the March Naval Yards, orbiting Mars.

The vessel slipped into the darkness for space to explore the far reaches of the universe.

The Amerigo Vespucci stopped near a massive black hole that was forming, watching and analyzing the treasure trove of data that they were receiving.

Suddenly, the vessel began moving towards the black hole. The captain of the vessel, Commander Martin Athrun, stumbled in shock at the strength of the black hole.
"God damn't... Reverse thrusters, full power... We have to get out of the gravitational pull of the black hole..."
The vessel shuddered as the engines went into reverse. But the pull of the black hole was to strong and the Amerigo Vespucci went closer and closer into the black hole.
Commander Athrun panicking, dispatched a quick message for help...
This is Commander Martin Athrun of the Five Civilized Nations Space Exploration Fleet requesting for assistance. We are being pulled into a powerful newly formed black hole. This is an SOS call... Please help us...
