Arkham Tunnel plan
Government and Federated Ltd. unveil plans for Arkham Tunnel

By Bill Christmas

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- In conjunction with the government, Federated Ltd., purveyor and operator of nearly all of Oglethorpia's transportation and power grids, has unveiled a plan to build an underground tunnel designed to link the Oglethorpian Expressway and Maglev line to the offshore metropolis of Arkham, Porlamar.

The plan calls for a tunnel that is 225 ft (75 m) below seabed, designed to link the city of Sheffingham to Arkham.

The width of the channel that seperates the two cities is roughly 278 miles (447 km).

The tunnel will have a lower partition, for construction and extention of the Oglethorpian Expressway to Arkham (5 lanes each way) and an upper section, designed to house an extention of the Maglev Network to Arkham, also with a single track for each direction.

"This will be a grand project," said Federated Ltd. CEO Richard Jones. "Our standards of safety will make this tunnel safe for every Oglethorpian tourist and construction worker making use of the Arkham Tunnel."

Physicists and construction analysts at Weiland University estimate that the tunnel will be able to sustain a 9.3 magnitude earthquake.

Said one analyst, "Oglethorpia hasn't even recorded a 7.0 seismic event; and this tunnel is deep enough that it will be in stable ground. No Oglethorpian should have any reservations about using the Arkham Tunnel."

More on the construction of the Arkham Tunnel as it comes.

Eredron will monitor the progress and success of this plan, with the possibility of contracting Federated Ltd. to build a similar transportation system in Eredron.

A great idea for modern transportation and linking of metropolises, in the times of demanding traffic. Our Guran Channel Tunnel, which links the city of Hogan Point to the island city of Beatham, is finished just a while ago. Being approximately 380km long, similar to the tunnel linking England and France, it serves the traffic very well, although reducing the demand of ferries and local flights.

Tunnel diagrams released
Federated Ltd. has released two diagrams of the tunnel project

OGLETHORPIA (BT) -- Federated Ltd. has released two diagrams of the tunnel project, expected to move along and break ground within the next month.

The first diagram shows the partitioning of the Arkham Tunnel.
The second diagram shows the orientation and connection of the tunnel.

That in orange represents the Expressway and Maglev line section that needs to be constructed to sync up with the tunnel and connect to Arkham.

It is. We're proud of our engineering team.

Hopefully, the Arkham Tunnel will alleiviate the need to ship goods via air and ship with the installation of passenger and cargo Maglev* lines.

Notes(s)

* -- Oglethorpia operates its passenger Maglev lines above ground, at 346 mph, or 557 km/h. Underground, we run cargo Maglev lines that operate at 283 mph, or 455 km/h. Both lines run a single track in each direction, and there have been no derailment accidents in the long history of operation of Maglevs.

So is the part of the roadway on land above ground or an even longer section of tunnel.

We also suggest perhaps making sections of the roadway a bridge.

OOC:

New Expressway lengths have to be built, in addition to extensions of the existing Maglev network; because they have not been built to the point where the Arkham Tunnel begins, since there is nothing there that is of interest.

Also, there are no major landforms in the area between the proposed "entrance" to the tunnel and to the landmass Arkham is on; and so there is nothing to build a bridge on.

Are there any sections of the sea where the depth is shallow enough to permit a bridge?

In our nation, we have four spans connecting 15 miles as causeway, about .6 miles as a cantilever bridge, and two 1 mile tunnels. All of this, plus an island connect Virginia Beach to Northampton County in our Virginia District of Delmarva.

250 miles? The depth is too great in the middle to cross with a bridge.

A five mile span, we might be able to do with a suspension bridge (and a large one at that) but 250 miles is a long span with little to no land to build a bridge to.

Very well. We wish the Oglethorpian government and Federated Limited well into the construction of this structure.

"They're building a big tunnel connecting their cities? Huh. About time they got with the times. But why still use cars? They should link their cities with near-vacumn train tunnels like we use. That will really launch them into the future."

OOC:

You could, if you'd like; it doesn't really matter to me.
