Candidates:

Chinese Nationalists
Kuomintang (KMT)

Pro-unification, centre-right party. Lead by Lee Teng Hui. Suffered enourmous defeat last elections, but polling has improved lately. Promises wide-ranging reforms to restore Taiwan's economy to health. Also aiming to cut taxes heavily.

One Nation Party
Fu Guo Dang (FGD)

The most pro-unificationist party in the running. Born from a merger between the right wing Christian Party and the centralist Republican party. Plans to lower defence spending and will immediately start talks for reunification if elected. Headed by the daughter of Colonel Zhang, Pauline Zhang.

Independence Party
DPP

Pro-independence, centre-right. Will raise defence spending and attempt to compete head-on with the mainland. Headed by Chen Shui Bian, currently in power. Has faced tremendous public demonstrations, especially in rural areas.
