A Service Message from Carmarthen: Labour Unions and You

23-11-2003, 07:22
** A tall, approximately six and a half foot tall man approaches a dais, on which is a pedastal and microphone. He is dressed in a deep blue uniform, adorned with gold badges and buttons of state. He appears in his mid-to-late twenties, reddish hair, with a reddish vandyke beard on his face, carefully trimmed. His eyes meet the camera, a startling grey colour that seems to reflect his uniform below and the sky above. He clears his throat, and speaks... **

People of our World.

This is Gaelan Carmarthen, First Minister of Carmarthen, Head of the High Council of Carmarthen.

Some of you may or may not be aware of the current insidious proposal before the United Nations - I am here to beg a moment of your time and attention, in the hope that this Economic disaster may be averted!

The idea, at face, quick read-and-click value, seems good enough. It supports the common worker.

It's when you look closely that things get... disturbing. The proposal has been brought before the United Nations with the admitted purpose of harming Capitalist and Consumerist Economies. Those closely allied with the author ADMIT this, indeed, they PLANNED for it to be ambiguously worded so that is would thusly appear relatively mundane at first glance and hence make it through the system.

I suggest you look closely.

This resolution harms the very sovereignty of your nation! It takes away even your right to make new laws that inhibit Unionism, not to mention removing your ability to control or monitor union activity!

I beg of you, people of our fair land, look closely at this resolution. Read it carefully. Read the opinions of those out there. And decide.

Decide well for all our sakes - vote "NO" on this UN Labour Resolution.

Thank you for your time.

Gaelan Carmarthen, First Minister of Carmarthen, Head of the High Council of Carmarthen.

** The speaker steps down, bows slightly to the camera and walks off the screen to the left **

United Nations general assembly.
Please allow me to inform the delegate of Biotopia of the huge amount of discussions that has been going on in the United Nations following this resolution. I do wonder if he holds us to be gullible fools?

Of course we do not round up the communist party. If not only because the communist party and the unions are not the same. Exept maybe in your nations. However, even in some anticapitalist nations there are no unions, supposedly because there is no need for them.

I will not hold the ignorance of the Biotopian delegate against him. Unions in Knootoss exist and their freedoms are protected. Even better so, they have a formal place in government policymaking af they have been incorporated as members of the "Sociaal Economische Raad" (Social-Economic Council) and employees and employers decide together on government economic policy and labour rights in annual "Autumn summits". Clearly unions have influence, but my government is fiercely against the wording of the proposal and it's intentions.

It is unacceptable that any organisation would fall outside of government control. Clearly the militant makers of the proposal are bent on trickery:

From your CACE board: (http://invisionfree.com/forums/CACE/index.php?showtopic=421)

"I agree with SeOCC. While your phraseology is perfectly agreeable to me, we have to beat the capitalists at one of their best games: trickery, and rhetoric is a powerful tool. It has to be phrased in words that won't raise flags for them. Remember, this sword has two edges: grabbing attention, abd studiously directing attention away from content."

It is not just "evil" countries that vote against this resolution. A lot of liberal nations, like Pilot from the "United NationStates Anti Opression and Tyranny Organization" (UNAOTO) for example, have turned against this hidden monstrosity. Truly, this is a proposal fit only for the communist societies in the ACA, not for any state which abides the rule of law.

After much discussion in my region Nederland we managed to procure a majority against this proposal. Therefore I as delegate vote against this resolution with full democratic legitimacy. We also urge our other allies to do the same.

We defeated the insane "complete equality" resoluton and we'll be able to defeat this one too. 5240 votes have already been cast against it. If this resolution is somehow going to be accepted we may have to consider alternative measures.

Due to the wisdom and foresight of His Omniferocity, any decision by that pack of weak-minded old women who comprise the so-called "United Nations" will have no effect on the Dominion.

Perhaps this latest outrage which will be forced down the throats of those gullible nations who have joined this insidious extranational criminal organization will force all and sundry to realize what rights they have tossed casually out the airlock with their submission to UN authority.

What value do you receive in exchange for renouncing the sovereign rights of nations? Does the UN protect its "members"? Does it guarantee a good economy and peace?

"Membership" in the UN is exactly the same as "membership" in the herd of cattle enroute to the abbatoir.

His Omniferocity calls on all members of the herd to save themselves from the inevitable end by renouncing the so-called "United Nations", as the Dominion has done. You have nothing to lose but your chains- even if you don't know they are there.

She presses a red buttion under the table and guards scramble to remove the Evil Overlord minister from the hallowed halls of the UN...

"We clearly see the benifit of UN membership and we are very glad to represent the Netherlands in this body. However we must admit that we have been dissapointed with this latest resolution. It leaves us with no choice but to refuse implementation of this resolution should it pass. We do not do this lightly, only if resolutions have such infringements on national soveriegnty and cultural we must ignore them. We believe this resolution is a violation of the UN charter which clearly states this respect for sovereignty and the cultural identity of nations."

The lady coughed: "We do hope to continue to work together with the UN as amicably as he have always done."

As the guards appraoached, the dark, impressive figure of the Warlord flickered twice, then winked out. Security personnel eventually traced the source of the hologram and determined that persons unknown had smuggled in several hologram imagers into the building concealed within standard news equipment.

Further investigation revealed that the same message was inserted into the General Assembly computer network, but UN security personnel found and removed the message before it activated.

Back in Mikalgard, the Warlord received the report from External Security on the UN actions with aplomb. "I thought they permitted the public into the proceedings. Apparently, only the initiated are permitted to see what goes on." Turning to the Securitypeon, the Warlord said, "See to it that the message gets broadcast this time, per my original instructions. This sort of silly James Bond crap will not impress me. Buy time on whatever international networks are available, and send it as a press release to all the major international News organizations. This money will be drawn from the ES budget, and the officer who approved this grandstanding stunt is fired. That will be all."

Thanks.

I thought it was a gag, but I couldn't be sure. So, I took the cheap way out and fixed the problem without changing anything.
