We're joining the world

- This announcement was delivered by Prime Minister I.P. Freeley to a special session of the entire TYB Parliament, and broadcast live to the Vendetta of TYB two days ago:

Dear People of TYB:

For the past several months, the Vendetta of TYB has lived in peace and seclusion from the rest of the world. We have been allowed to grow our industry, develop a stable political structure, and maintain our alliance with the nations of the Land O Lakes region.

We have never had contact with the outside NS world, except through discussions at the UN Forum. But, since our country has grown to a population of over 750 million, and our economy is now strong and stable, we feel we are ready to become a player in the world debate.

Our first steps will be slow; we will tread carefully, but with purpose. We will join those nations whose interests mirror ours; who value personal freedoms, who believe in peace as the first option and war as the final option, who wish to cultivate a lasting, growing relationship with the Vendetta of TYB. We will not interfere in major NS issues, such as the recent rise of an alliance of dictatorial nations; we realize we are quite insignicant, compared to the nations involved in that issue. But we believe there is a place, however small, in the world debate for TYB.

I know you are asking us, why? We have no spaceships, no futuristic weaponry, and a military that is only used for defense. Compared to many other NationStates, we are behind technologically and militarily. So why go in over your head like this?

We do it because we believe that peace can solve as many problems as war. We do it because we believe that we can find allies and even friends in the greater world from whom we both can mutually benefit, in the sharing of technologies, in trade, and in so many other areas.

But mostly, we do it because we feel TYB was destined for greater things than to sit on the sidelines. This is our world too, and TYB is at a point where we feel we have not only the right, not only the desire, but, finally, the means to make our mark on it.

As such, I am bringing the following bills before Parliament.

The first bill is the Military Defense Technology Act. This act will set aside a small amount of our budget towards developing new defensive military systems within the next year, not to exceed 75 million glassjaws.

The second bill is the Military Defense Procurement Act, which willl set aside a small amount of our budget to procure defensive weaponry within the next 30 days from a NationState with a proven track record in selling defensive weaponry, not to exceed 75 million glassjaws.

The last bill is the Mutual Alliance Act. This act authorizes the newly installed TYB Secretary of State, Daryl Palumbo, and the TYB Ambassador to the UN, Patrick Ewing, to work in tandem to explore and accept either the creation of a new alliance or TYB's entry into an existing one without having to go before the Parliament again, in period not to exceed 180 days.

We hope that the NationStates universe will embrace us peacefully, and with open arms.

Thank you, good night, and Peace to The Vendetta.

- All three bills passed handily after a short debate, and popular support for these measures remain strong.

OOC: Yeah, so, I figure I wanna have some more fun than just clicking Yes or No on issues every day. I've been reading a lot of threads here lately, and I *think* I can do this the right way. If this RP thing ends up being fun, I'll stick to it. Just take it easy on me, okay??
