Birth of a Nation (open)

22-11-2003, 16:39
The sun rose slowly over the island. Years ago, there had been civilization here but now there were merely five million lost souls. Shattered glass glistened in the dawn's light, lying on the streets below empty windows that stood gaping out of once great buildings. People, struggling to survive, wandered in the reckage, seeking out all that could be reused. A few muttered conversations on street corners spoke of becoming a nation but no one truly had any hope. Civil war had left nothing in its wake for the humans, elves, and other races of the island. The different peoples were no longer on speaking terms. The humans were seeking to slowly rebuild the husks of the cities as the elves returned to their hidden palaces of the wilder places. Even the brownies left the homes of their human friends for the ancient burrows where they had dwelt before pledging aid and friendship to humanity. Of the wandering djinn, there was no trace that any of the other races could find. And so on among all the peoples. All that gave sign of what had once been to the outside world was a message, relayed constantly in all known languages from an unknown source. "Help."

:::Onboard the MNS Dinet:::

The MNS Dinet (destroyer) was on patrol. A computer technician recieved a transmission from some unknown source.

Technician: Captain, we have a transmission from some unknown source.
Captain: Interesting. What is this saying?
Technician: It's saying,"Help", sir. It seems to be relaying from that island over there.
Captain: Very well then. Change course to that island. We're going to see who or what's relaying that message.

The MNS Dinet changed course to the island and went full-speed ahead.

Merigo wandered idly along the coast. The little fairy looked strange to human eyes or even most elven, almost as much like a hamster as like a human. His race was rare in the world. In fact, he had never heard of his kind outside his home island, what had once been the kingdom of Everdream. Merigo snorted. The kingdom had never had contact with the outside world and had utterly destroyed itself in civil war between the elves and the other races. He kicked a shell. Merigo was barely 15, a child, especially by the standards of his immortal race. He should be playing with other children, learning to be a man, not walking alone along a desolate shorefront. Honestly, he had no clue why he was walking the beach or where he was going. But everything had come to ruin in his home village so he couldn't stay there. He sighed. Then he turned, spotting something out of the corner of his eye. Could it be...a ship? Really, he wasn't sure what he would say if he summoned them. He wasn't stranded exactly. Still...Merigo acted quickly, gathering what dry timber he could. Within about half an hour, he had struck up a small signal fire on the beach. As time progressed, he added more and more tinder to it until it was a roaring blaze.

The captain of the Dinet noticed something on the island. It had appeared to be a small fire. The captain of the ship ordered a small group of men go to the shore and see what was there.
24-11-2003, 12:46
Merigo walked a few dozen yards away from the fire to get away from the heat. He scratched at his golden furred cheek, mumbling faintly as he sank down, sitting on the sand. His round little rodent eyes looked out again over the waters, spotting a small boatload of men. By instinct, he almost started to rise. Just as his hips lifted off the ground, he thought against it and settled back onto the beach. He had awhile yet before they would reach the shore. His furry head darted from place to place as his mind frantically sought for the right words to say to these strangers. Would they even speak his language? One paw scooped up a handful of sand which he let slip between his fingers. Slowly, he lay back on the cool sand, placing his hands behind his head. He was sure he had plenty of time until the boat got here, enough time to rest his eyes. His eyelids drifted closed. He was just resting a moment, after all. He was sound asleep by the time the party from the ship arrived, curled up into a little ball like a hamster.

The men, which were Marines, found something laying on the beach. They walked closer to it to see what it was. It was a rodent-like creature curled up in a ball and it was still alive. The leader of the team ordered the Marines to scan the beach for more.

The rest of the beachfront is relatively empty.

((Sorry for the one sentence post. Wasn't much else to do in this post.))

Dont even bother making "New Nation have Arrived" open rp, its quite boring...makes me want to be a mod and do what they did to the guy that quoted "WAR TO MODS" and got experiumented or something.

The men see that the beach is empty. The leader shakes the creature to get it up.

Merigo opens his eyes slowly, blinking and uncurling. "What? Oh! You saw the fire!" He jumps up and looks around. "Heya! Are you new here? We need help and stuff! Everything's all...messed up and stuff." Merigo straightens his brightly colored clothes, darting his head around. "So where are you guys from? Are you here to protect us? Are there still elves on the island? I'm really scared." Merigo quackes slightly, jerking his head around like a cornered animal. Then he starts down the beach again. "I can so you the biggest city in the world if you want. Or at least they told me it was the biggest city in the world. It has 425 people. That's a lot of people. Way more than me. I'm just two people." He giggles faintly. "So are you, like, merchants or something? We need building supplies and doughnuts and stuff. Do you like doughnuts?" Merigo digs around in one of his pockets, pulling out a few crumbs and nibbling them quickly as he walks. Them out of the blue, he does a forward flip, giggling lightly.

The leader takes off his helmet covering his whole head, revealing a boy around 19 yrs. old. His name is Leon.

"We're not merchants, nor are we here on official business. I'm Lance Corporal Leon; I lead this squad. Our ship was out here on patrol and some Techie in the bridge saw a fire on this beach and the captain sent us here to check it out. You need building supplies and doughnuts and stuff? Did you just get out of a war or something?"
25-11-2003, 15:45
Merigo nods emphatically. "There was a big civil war...against the elves. It destroyed all the cookies and sleds and castles and stuff. I barely escaped with my cookwear intact but I left it back at my house." Merigo turns and walks back to the men. "Aren't you guys coming?"

The Marines walk with Merigo.

"Yes we are. We can contact home and can get help for you. We can rebuild your country and protect from the elves or any other threat until you can get a military up and going."
25-11-2003, 22:50
Merigo hops up and down, walking along the beach. "That would be great. What about the elves though? They still live here? You should probably talk with someone who knows what's going on or something." He steps off the beach along an old dirt path. The walk takes about an hour but he soon leads the men inside the walls of a ruined stone city. The bodies of elves and humans, blades drawn, armor still on, lie scattered in the street. There's no sign of life. Merigo blinks as he looks around and slowly sinks to his knees, tears welling in his eyes. "I thought people would be ok here! What am I supposed to do?" He curls back up into a little ball, trembling with his sobs. The stink of bodies rotting in the sun wafts to the marine's noses, a putrid odor indeed. Many of the buildings have been looted. Furniture litters the streets. Stones have been torn from many wallks and many doors lie fallen, knocked violently from their hinges. Rats and dogs dart through the streets, feeding on the bodies of the dead and chasing away the hovering swarms of crows.

The Marines cover their noses at the putrid smell of death and destruction. Leon fires his gun in the air to scatter the animals.

"It's best for you to lay low, just in case there are more elves. We'll contact command and we'll clean everything up. We'll stay here just in case elves get the idea to come out."

The United Christian Republic of Catholicstan(nowthe Kingdom of Catholicstan with a different monarcy than the "Republic") bombed the West Simsington Confederation,(now the Republic of Simsington) but said they were just testing their weapons. The West Simsington Confederation declared war, and took over East Simsington, which was then part of the United Christian Republic of Catholicstan. We were also part of the UCRC, which had just said it would execute pimps and hos. We were outraged, as pimping is part of our culture. We declared independance, and after the WSC annexed East Simsington and some islands, and the recently re-named Republic of Simsington sent 10,000 troops to Pimpistan and routed the Catholistani troops. The Catholic people were outraged, and there was a coup after both wars that overthrew the old monarch, and installed a new one, who re-named his country the Kingdom of Catholicstan.

Leon sends out the Marines to look around, but not to go too far.

There is very little to be found but death and more death. About one in 400 of the corpses are elven, the vast majority are human, and the remainder represent the wide assortment of other sentient beings found on the island. Most of the corpses are being consumed by gaunt, half starved dogs and flocks of crows that scatter whenever the marines approach. However, a humanoid figure, armored and with an axe at its side, is kneeling over one of the elven corpses. With a grunt, he slowly raises his head to reveal the hideous face of an orc. He grimaces, baring his teeth and growling ferociously at the marines, even as he takes a step back, moving his hand slowly to his axe. "What are you doing here?" He snarls. "Mine!" He jerks forward briefly, snarling, before pausing and simply regarding the humans with hateful hunger. He bends slowly and opens the elf's mouth. It was an etherially lovely female. Her body is half eaten but what remains has some shadow of her beauty in life. Whatever weapon she carried has long ago been carried off but her shimmering, golden armor still remains.

The Marines aim their guns at the orc, to make sure he doesn't make one wrong move. One Marine moves foreward to the orc really carefully with his gun fixed on the orc.

"Don't make a wrong move. We're not here to hurt you. We're helping out here."

The Marine looks down at the remains of the beautiful elf and then looks back at the orc.

"Was that your friend?"

The orc grunts. "Friend? Who would be friends with elven filth? They're good for food...and sometimes you can take the women when their not armed." A rather evil smirk creeps across his hideous face. "Like humans." The orc glances around, sniffing at the air. "What do you have to offer than I could like more than this banquet? Who are you?" The orc snarls at the guns but moves his greenish hands away from his axe. "I'm just going to walk away now, boys. I don't want a fight, and neither do you so..." He trails off, just snarling. "Elf-friends!" He shouts, baring razor sharp, filthy teeth. Then he turns and starts to run deeper into the city. Dogs and crows scatter from his path. As one of the crows flies into the air, he grabs it and shoves it into his mouth, biting down on it and chewing it to death, blood dripping from his hideous mouth. Within moments, the creature is gone from sight, nestling into some vile hiding place to watch the other beings explore this city of the dead, this war ravaged realm of destruction.

The Marines lower their guns as the orc runs off. The Marines regroup and meet over what to do. They all agree that more troops should be sent in to help out. They contact command to request more troops to help clean up and rebuil the ruined country.

Leon: Okay, men. We're going to have to clean up here.

Marine: What if that creature comes back? He'll be pissed.

Leon: So be it. If these natives want a country, they're going to have to get these bodies cleared out.
