The Proposed Red Phone Network

Problem: Often regional and alliance conflicts are started from miscommunication and misunderstanding.
Proposed Solution: In two situations where I believed war was imminent between my organization and another I looked up the AIM screenname of the opposing leader and had the situation sorted out in minutes to the relief of both parties. I propose we formalize a directory or network of such names for major regions and alliances similar to the red phone (which isn't red and for a while wasn't a phone) of white house fame so that disputes could be sorted out quickly and efficiently. I'm just throwing this idea out, flame it or improve it all you want.

It would be good to be able to send a Personal Message to someone and have it pop up in a window the next time a link is clicked or a page is refreshed in the forum. phpBB has this ability, but it would have to be limited so nations couldn't be spammed. And this would be like having a secondary method of telegramming, so perhaps its redundant.

As for a directory of ways to contact people outside of NationStates, I don't think that's such a good idea. Exhange contact info in Telegrams, not in public forums where it can be harvested.

Posting info in a public board is an invitation to spammers, especially when it is organized in a list. This would result in a lot of unnecessary spam.

Excellent idea.

However ...

This game is operated at a financial loss by Violet, since it was originally designed as a weird advertising experiment for the book. Adding a new feature to the website would be expensive and time-consuming. This may be a desirable feature for NS2 (if and when it gets launched), but I doubt it's worthwhile for this game- unless you can find someone willing to do the programming development for free, as well as the debugging, periodic upgrades, etc.

wasn't the red phone in the kremlin?

The White House doesn't sound like it could have a red phone...

I could be wrong of course... :?:

A good idea. I would say  Technical. Unlikely to happen, though.

Ah, the White House red phone was also white and blue, and could also be used as a toothpaste.
