Tech levels, realism etc.

20-11-2003, 12:59
OK, I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but what's up with tech levels, and other issues like magic, mythological creatures, aliens etc.?

I would like to roleplay against similarly advanced nations to my own (i.e. modern day, with a handful of technological innovations that don't exist in the world yet, but are theoretically possible).

I might be looking in the wrong places, but most of the rolepaly threads I have read so far seem to include a mishmash of nations, such as modern-era countries, fantasy nations with dragon riders and orcs, nations that uses war droids and faster than light tavel etc. It's like watching a movie that is Black Hawk Down vs. Lord of the Rings vs. Star Wars...

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Well most (not all) advanced nations prefer RPing with more advanced tech levels, and some RPers [Sirithil aka Menelmacar for example] like to do elves, and others do as they wish. It is up to you to decide what level of tech you may be, personally as you're an early October nation you'd be developing.
The advanced nations like Steel Butterfly and AMF actually like to use advanced tech, so dont blame them for that - their RP characters force them to. Read the stickies to find out more.

simply put, if you want it and you can suport it, you can have it. Just about every time period has been done here, so its just a matter of putting (modern RP) (space RP) (magic RP) (Medival RP) whatever in your thread title if you want to specify a single tech level to roleplay with.

It would be enough to make sure that both sides accept the UN rankings as a guideline... and balance their (different, say, magic vs. modern) techlevels based on them...

Basically, you can choose any level you feel like, but just watch out, because there are large nations in just about every tech level. I'm a modern/future tech nation, incorporating some modern technology and a large amount of future tech, with more future tech as I get larger.

I'm currently SteamTech as the moment, I'm thinking about developing it further and maybe adding Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard style tech.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep my eyes open for RP that seem to be about my own tech level.

I'm not trying to force my opinion down anyone's throat, but am just loking for like-minded RPers...

Yeah, what really sucks is that the reason I am New Fubaria, is the I used to have a nation called Fubaria, which was started December last year...back when the sevrers here were really struggling under the strain. It got to the point where the server was so slow for me that I couldn't play any more, so I left. If I had have perservered with Fubaria I'd have a population of billions by now...

Oh well, sh!t happens...

You can get it back by the Getting Help page, however its population will be as when it died.

Thanks for that, but I think I'll persist with New Fubaria for now. :)
