The Xanthalian Empire's legacy.
The Xanthalian government is facing it's first challenge as a democratic institution as internal unrest threatens to break up the Xanthalian union of planets. The Senate and Council have decided to allow any planets that wish to to leave the Xanthalian Republic. "This is the price we must now pay for the forced annexation practices of the early Empire," said Garfield Shamus, the Aellis V representative in the Xanthalian Senate. "The new Republic cannot and will not force anyone to be a part of the Union." A procedure for determining which planets will be allowed to leave the Republic is forthcoming, says the Senate.
Planets that have expressed intrest in leaving Xanthal (excluding Earth, Chromestar, Tiln, Aellis IV, Aellis VII, and Mirfak III):
Than IV
Talmaraan VIII

Very interesting so far...

The Five Civilized Nations will support the actions of Xanthal in coverting to a democracy...
The Xanthalian Senate has released a precedent for seceding from the Republic. If over 80% of a planet's inhabitants vote to leave the union, that planet's representative may declare it independant. In related news, tensions are growing in the Than system as civil unrest on both habitable planets there continues to rise. Than IV is leaning toward seceding from the Republic, but the loyalist citizens of Than VI are protesting the move. This disagreement is rapidly tearing a rift between these two planets that have shared a government and society for over seven thousand years, long before the Xanthalian Empire established a relationship with them. Already there are reports of attacks on residents from one planet attacking visitors from the other, and an attempt has even been made on the Than VI representative's life. The Republic has stated that it will not intervene util it becomes clear whether Than IV will seceed or not.
the Empire is requesting confirmation on whether or not our alliance is still valid
The Xanthalian Republic was a peaceful transition of power aftr the death of Nightshade Carrin in accordance with her wishes. All of our standing alliances are still considered in effect by the Xanthalian government. However, if any of our planets seceed from the Republic, treaties with Xanthal will no longer apply to them unless they sign into law that they are.
I think the older Xanthalian government worked better.
They essentially work the same way, just with a democratically elected head instead of a dictator.
OOC: You can really tell which posts were typed on school keyboards...
IC: The news has just come in that effective as of one hour from now (real time) the planet of Than IV will be granted intependance from the Republic. The status of Talmaraan VIII has not been announced yet.
As a protectorate of Xanthal, the Seedling goverment wishes to lend a helping hand. What is needed as of yet Xanthal?
Nothing is needed. We gave them the right to seceed, it is their choice.
Talmaraan VIII will also be leaving the union.
Formal notice: Talmaraan VIII and Than IV have officially left the Republic.
Thats too bad, shall I invade and return to you? 8)
No, that situation has ended. Trasnia conquored Talmaraan VIII and now uses it's population as slaves. Than IV attacked Than VI for remaining in the Republic and we had to subjugate them. Since we have no intrests in the Talmaraan system we're not inclined to help out there, and we're still deciding what to do about Than IV.

Lietuveska wishes to congratulate Xanthal for this new transition to democracy, and we wish to establish a friendship we are sure both of us will benefit from.
