The Winds of Change... and Matricide [Story RP]

20-11-2003, 01:38
Prince Gabriel Freud Cocytus-Black, heir to the Iron Throne and the Imperium of Axackal II looked out the window of what everyone thought was his bedroom in the Grand Palais of Cythas upon the Imperial Capital as the sky cleared after a light summer rain that lasted for only a few minutes but made the entire city and gardens of the Grand Palais glimmer like a perfect diamond in the sunlight.

But it was only a cheap illusion that would break upon the first hammer blow.

Prince Gabriel being the Imperial heir to an infant dynasty had a first row seat to the truth behind the veiled mysteries of the Axackal II government. For behind the crowns and ritual and scepters the government was the same as it had been since the rise of Helena Cocytus-Black, a dictatorship.

Gabriel had been given the news from his mother that one of their Generals had been plotting to overthrow them, after a quiet assassination his death was reported to the public as a "Training Accident", he was given a quiet funeral and the body was burned by order of his doctor, after a few well-placed bribes and threats. Gabriel knew that this was just one crime among many that his mother had committed to retain power, most of which he had no desire to know, yet because of what he would inherit he was forced to open his eyes to the evils of that which had given birth to him.

He knew for a fact that he was not the result of "Divine Virgin Conception" but of artifical insemination (the father was one of Helena's love-slaves, he was later killed to keep him quiet). Gabriel also knew that the true reason Helena started all thsi nonsense about being a deity was to secure her powerbase after several resistance groups began to use religion as a weapon against her. Gabriel drummed his fingers on the windowsil, his long blond hair framed a noble face with deep brown eyes that were filled with a wisdom and sorrow beyond his years. At sixteen he already looked the part of a King, with his taste for fine clothing and wines, he knew his time to rule Axackal II would come, perhaps sooner than anyone could ever expect. His mother still thought him a dumb child, too weak to do things on his own, oh how mistaken she was... Time enough to let her know fo this error before death's sweet cloak took her into decay and the records of rotten history books.

The Black Empress looked at the greatest treasure that she had ever gained, she lightly scrapped her fingernails over the smooth surface of the artifact sent by the dig team in the ruins of Amon Sul. What was once believed to be lost to the world for all time was now hers, the Palantiri of Amon Sul. With this artifact from times so long ago that they were almost forgotton except for the investigations of the scholar J.R.R. Tolkien she would never of thought to look for the device. A means in which to see things going on many thousands of miles away, a means to get information that would mean life or death before anyone else, but she had to learn how it worked first but time enough for that.

She spent so long looking at it that she almost didn't notice the knife slidding into the back of her neck and severing her vocal cords. She only had time to twitch for a few seconds before the knife was used to sever her head from her body. Helena Cocytus-Black, Black Empress of a nation of over 900 million who worshiped her as God in fear was dead without a whimper.

Gabriel looked at the neck wound, cauterized because he had the blade burning red-hot in a fire for half an hour before using it. He looked in the big black room, noting the blood stains on the walls, he never learned what the room had been used for and in later years it was sealed off, never to be disturbed under pain of death. Gabriel however noticed the object and took it, thinking to have it investigated later, "Whatever this thing is, it must of been of great value to distract my mother." he thought as he left the room and walked down the massive halls of the Grand Palais to his room.

When he entered his gigantic bedroom filled with ever comfort in existance he saw that his manservent, Buford, was there. "Report." Prince Gabriel ordered. "The Generals that supported your mother have been taken care of, they will be replaced with your loyalists. Is the deed done?" The Prince nodded and said, "I want you to investigate this," he then handed him the Palantiri, "I want to know what this is inside of a week, now I have to tell the nation of a sad demise of my mother."

Interesting turn of events, I'll need to keep a close eye on this.

Events were turning out to be quite nice as the Prince-soon to be Emperor-saw things. The population of Axackal II was in a fit of mourning for the now dead Black Empress of Axackal II, the potential threat of the old Generals were taken care of, the "Nobles" (people who purchased titles and estates from the Black Empress) were cowed and at his beck and call, and he had a new crown and scepter designed since he planned to declare the title "Black" for female rulers and would declare himself the Green Emperor (meaning that the title "Green would be for men only), and he would break down that foolish religion his mother had created and allow religious freedom as the nurse who took care of him as a child (and still lived in the Grand Palais and was Gabriel's only real friend) raised him in secret the proper Hindislamii (Hindislam- Blend of Islam and Hinduism, thrived in Axackal II until the rise of the Black Empress and her "Church of Political and Spiritual Enlightenment"). Now if only his manservant could figure out what that sphere was he would feel secure.

For within an hour he would be crowned Green Emperor of Axackal II, then everything would change.

Buford didn't waste anytime, within a few hours of the announcement he had been going through every scrap of paper in the bedroom of the Black Empress (with Gabriel's permission of course), and had so far found no clue to the sphere or what it was. Buford looked at the magnificent chamber and nearly screamed "What does this thing do you bitch?!" before noticing a note on the floor he hadn't spotted before. He snacthed it up and looked at it, within a few minutes he had read it two times and still didn't believe it. He turned as white as a ghost and his eyes dialated as large as hens eggs, he then took out the sphere of unknown material and was in awe, he was holding a palantiri! "This would be extremely valuable to the Prince, he must know of this at once." Buford thought in a flash before putting the sphere... no the Palantiri back in his pocket before leaving as he dashed to the bedrooms of the Prince Gabriel to give to him a most powerful gift.

OOC: Personally, this looks to me like a well thought out, interesting and clever piece of work and I abhor the pendantic, idiotic and downright spiteful reaction that others are taking to it. Of course, Since this is Slutbum Wallah saying this it will have the same basic effect as a house of cards in a hurricane, but there you go.

[hey, it can be the best thought out piece of literature this side of Shakespeare: that doesn't make it any more valid or.. well, even possible under the circumstances I put Axackal through. I would like to discuss this in TM with Axa, but my experience has been that such an endeavor is all to often fruitless. Frankly, I'm surprised that Axackal didnt get left to rot after that parade debacle.

My point, SB, is that the quality of the plotline [ and for that matter, the responses of others] fails to compensate for the insane amounts of frustration that I felt trying to get this player to go along with a storyline that showed some promise [well, to me anyway  ].

As far as I'm concerned, Axackal should be heavily occupied at the moment, its population in shackles. Short of that, it doesn't exist. Unless, of course, you want to go back and finish that damned SL.]

That would be fine, IF IT WORKED LIKE THAT.

24 hours is too short a period, especially on a weekend, where he may or may not be going on vacation.

You have nothing to lose by saying that you will keep going on as you are now untill you get a response from melkor.

To Everyone Who Brought This Up (With Sarcasm),

Why it was so nice of you to throw my largest nation and a damm good storyline I spent three weeks planning into total limbo because you egos and your pride would not allow you to drop a deadstoryline from two months ago. I'm so happy that I get to shovel through your shitty opinions and waste a good Saturday when I could be RP-Ing in limbo until Melkor gets off of his ass and answers my T-Gram even though he has proven to be an infamous no-show for the past month (for whatever OOC reasons they maybe) and will most likely be gone back into wherever he goes for another month. Thank you again for making me waste so much time waiting because you happen not to like anything I do no matter how well thought out. My respect for you has only grown (severe sarcasm here).

Whoa, a counter-flame, I didn't see that one coming.

Look Axackal, it's not us with the egos, it's really you. If you really want to get rid of the fact that your nation is most likely a bit of nuclear radiation, then start over. Use an exsisting puppet(as long as it's not mishackal) or create a new one. Change your posting style, and never admit to being mishackal or axackal, because you bring the wrath of gods apon you when you do(By gods I mean one god, Melkor... Unless I've missed something with Siri).

Hooray!

Seriously, Melkor and the others are taking this way to seriously. I have a piece of news for them - NationStates isn't actaully real. Its made up. It's all in your head. - If Axackal wants to skip two years of doing nothing instead of letting Melkor and his bunch of cronies get their way then more power to him. We have few enough good RPers on these forums without forcing another into absolute silence because his nation is "Recuperating".

If only that was true.

What happened to him was real massively-multiplayer roleplaying. He pissed off Melkor, and almost everyone else in a position of power. Therefor no one raised a finger against Melkor doing a thing, and many people supported his OOC and IC decision to do it.

What he didn't expect was for 1st Axackal to attempt to god-mod out of the situation. Though considering his Mishackal example, it is hardly suprising. I was part of that war, it was an atrocious bit of war-play on his part. No one has 300+ star destoyers. He also refused to post damages after a large coilition of allies attacked him with overwhelming odds. He choose to run away, and stopped RPing as Mishackal.

Also the reason for the war? He invaded RL France, took over, and made it a colony in as few posts that are in this thread. He allowed no revolutionaries, and Ignored the attempts at outside RPers to create revolutions against him in France. The guy has no knowage of WW2. The people that attacked him, myself included, fought to right this wrong.

He then switched to Axackal, and has done several actions which pissed off me, Melkor, and half the forums.

Your statement would be true, if your idea of Axackal innocence was just.

That statement implies that he should godmod his way out of death. If we cannot have nations die, then what point is there to this entire RPG? Without the element of risk, of losing your nation, it takes away the fun of forlays into international politics.

He lost, and lost big. As Melkor did not godmod, then he must accept that he lost, and move on to a new nation.

I can't help but respond to this.

Slutbum Wallah: have you ever done a RP thread with, say, pretty much just one other person? Just you and one other "major player?"

Perhaps you have and perhaps you haven't. I admit to not having followed your history too much. Now, in such a storyline as Axackal and I crafted, needless to say both of us were... well, pretty important to the Storyline. It obviously could not have existed without both myself and Axackal's player posting regularly in the thread, right? That pretty much goes without saying.

Axackal's player posted regurlarly in that particular thread right up until things started going poorly for him. Then he vanished. Utterly. He kept on posting with the Belmore Family, so it was evident to me at least that he didn't leave NS. If he had chosen to abandon Axackal II under those circumstances, I couldn't say I'd blame him, but it's still pretty honorless to just run away from anything that could conceivably kick his ass. It seems to me that the player was laboring under the notion that I'd want his account pass or something if I'd have won. I don't really even know if people do that anymore, but to me part of the game is crafting stories that allow the original player control over their borders, even in the event of invasion. The whole point of this all is to have something called "fun."

Now, some of you may be saying "Hey now, it wasnt fun for him to have you march all those Haradrim marines and those Skyfurnaces right into Cythas!"

Youre thinking too much in the short term. Any good story is going to involve a little adversity. The trick to making it a good story is overcoming it and the various things you do to acheive your ends. Besides, its just as much of a drag for me to have my SL destroyed by immaturity as it is for him to be invaded. It's a two way street. A lot of stories, particularly in this format, will downright suck for at least for a little bit. But it gets better in the end, invariably.

Unless, of course, your idea is cut short by some... person who doesnt like the idea of being manhandled. Which brings me back to your post, SW: it doesnt matter who won the war. I'm not saying I won. I'm saying it never even got a chance to get underway, because Axa's player had convinced themselves [rightly or wrongly] that either:

a)I was going to win and there wasnt jack shit he could do about it
or
b) any response he could have made would be met with nothing but criticism.
Here's where I got to cut him a little slack:

Axackal's [Mishakal] player has been put through a horrendous amount of ridicule by the NS public. To his credit, he was correct when he surmised that an acceptable ending would be almost impossible for him to formulate, as a lot of you tend to criticise just about everything he posts. This seemed to me to be the main reason he didn't want to post.

That said, that's no excuse to just drop out of a storyline. Sometimes you just got to say "screw you all, this is what i'm going to do."
